When I was a kid in the 1960s here in the San Francisco Bay Area, our next door neighbors, John and Rose, were Holocaust survivors. They were Greek Jews who as teenagers, were shipped to Auschwitz along with their families. They met when the camp was liberated, and were the only ones in their families to survive. John started a successful florist business in San Francisco. They had 3 kids and were wealthy. One day, they described to my parents all the suffering they went through at Auschwitz. They never had the tattooed numbers on their forearms removed. They always seemed like the happiest people, always so cheerful and laughing. They did not let the horrors of their past crush them.
I am part German. Our family came over to Amerca way before WWII. So, it is awful to see how the people, the Jewish people, were treated by the Germans, since I myself have a connection through ancestry. One has to ask, who is really the animal in these circumstances, the people being treated like animals or the people doing it to them. The answer is obvious. No one deserves to be abused like this. Shame on the Germans. How atrocious. How EVIL what happened and what was done. I am also part English in my ancestry, and the English along with the Americans beat the Germans, thank goodness.
All people are animals. Calling someone an "animal" as if that name makes them less than human doesn't make sense. I wish people would stop doing this - don't treat human animals or any other animal badly. That's what seems obvious to me.

Once I started learning about the Holocaust (the Catastrophe), I could not think about anything else. What happened then is like a huge dark heavy blob throbbing inside me.
In 1967 we were all told to go to the audiovisual room to watch several mandatory films about WW2. One was about the Holocaust but back then, to the average person it was not known as that. We were all shocked by seeing the skeletons in the ovens which had not been fully burned when the camp was liberated. Stacks and stacks of bodies, it was so horrible, I still remember it well in 2014. Seeing this I still find it hard to take in, why people would do this to other people. The horror of it all came to be known to the American GIs as why they had fought the war. Seeing this, and knowing that the Soviets and Japanese were just as bad, followed soon as the Moaists' Cultural Revolution, I wonder why so many terrible, ghastly things happened around the world in the northern hemisphere at one time. For the Nazis and the Soviets, it was Darwin's theory of the fit survive while other's don't, and to Hitler and Stalin that was put into intentional practice now known as Social Darwinism.
That's exactly what was happenning throuought the history - mistakes were quickly forgotten and repeated. Today, at German schools, they no longer teach about Holocaust as a Nazi crime but a common treatment of Jews by all European nations, Germany being just one, minor part of it. Also the term "Polish concentration camps" was designed by Germans for a good reason. Germany and Russia are NOT sorry, did NOT learn a lesson and are NOT anti-fascist!
We're in tears when we listen the stories of what happened in these camps where 6 million people died for one reason that they were different. For those who murdered these people, this wasn't a petty thing. Love and Death seem to look two ends, but in camps these terms merged into a single one, ie, THE END.
This lady is courageous, strong and loving, when I heard her speak at the end, she brought me to tears, it's true everything she said, we should never forget the past and be very aware of the future, I'm so happy she found love in her life again, she is a very brave beautiful lady ❤
Let us not forget, this atrocity occured only 79 years ago. It happened in the lifetime of people who are still alive today. We're in tears when we listen the stories of what happened in these camps where 6 million people died for one reason that they were different. For those who murdered these people, this wasn't a petty thing. Love and Death seem to look two ends, but in camps these terms merged into a single one, ie, THE END.
This lady is courageous, strong and loving, when I heard her speak at the end, she brought me to tears, it's true everything she said, we should never forget the past and be very aware of the future, I'm so happy she found love in her life again, she is a very brave beautiful lady ❤

Let us not forget, this atrocity occured only 79 years ago. It happened in the lifetime of people who are still alive today. This was a horrific crime committed against a mass amount of people in fairly civilised and modern times. And it happened in Europe, a technologically advanced and civilised place at the time.
