  • Hand me downs in real life are usually nothing to celebrate, but in EQ it can be great to get additional use out of gear that may have been rotting in someone's bank.

Love the availability of gear on FV. Recently returned to the game after a 7-8 year hiatus. Dont have the time to commit to the raid scene so figured id play as a ftp with gear from the bazaar. I'd figure id continue playing povar the server I've always been on. It feels awful trying to get re-established. Basically there are about 2-3 dickheads that have a monopoly on almost everything in the bazaar and want 2m pp for every single thing ( well mostly the non-visibles and weapons) even for gear that's like 5 expansions old. Once in awhile if i am lucky and check at the right time i can snipe something at fair price but those opportunities are few and far in between. I did the math and if i paid the outrageous prices it would cost me pretty much all the plat ive earnt in the 20+ years just to gear up 1 char for LS t1. I know i can buy kronos for pp but then for me the game becomes pay-to-win which personally just feels icky.
I've recently checked out FV and totally different economy. I had a few of heroics sitting on a couple of accounts and with those ive already accumulated 2 full sets of LS gear ready to go for when i hit 120 and enough plat that i can get a krono if i really needed one, all within a month of casually playing. FV just feels like a server where I can prosper and succeed.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying FV with the rest of us. I love the server. I nigraded from Xegony about 2 or 3 years ago. It has a thriving population and healthy economy.

the only thing my druid can craft so far, is bags(backpacks) but i only found the 6 slot heavy as hell backpack so far.
and i know my original accounts , had a bag that was like 100% weight reduction and 8 or 10 slots. but cant remember how i found it.
that druid was lvl 40 though, so maybe i need a few more lvls until i run across that quest or book or whatevr it was that taught me how to make those usefull backpacks.

Was it a Leatherfoot Haversack? I know Halflings can craft those and they are very nice. 10 slot with 100% weight reduction.

Thinking of starting up new characters again. What's the benefit of FV versus Luclin or Drinal?

FV is a Free Trade server, Most items that are NoTrade on standard servers are tradeable here. There is also a permanent XP bonus.

Stop, stop, it's already dead! (the horse) Cultural armor was never created to replace drops or raid gear. It was made to supplement it. When it first came out, everyone jumped on Ngreth's case about why the stats weren't better than group gear. Truth is, it CAN be better than group gear...if you aug it right. But right out of the box, it's merely decent armor. I have an 85 SK on Cazic in full Dreadguard fully augged (slots 7, 11, 12) and it's on par with Tier 8 Underfoot raid gear (Iridium) with no augs. My 85 Warrior with full Tier 9 Underfoot raid (Rhodium) isn't THAT much higher, statwise, than the SK in cultural. Also remember cultural pre-dates Defiant by a few years. In fact, given how plentiful defiant drops are, cultural armor is useless unless you're planning to fully aug it at 85+ and have all the necessary trades maxed. Besides, what are you fighting at level 20 that you'd need better than defiant for? Flawed Defiant is better than classic raid gear (Hate/Fear). (Not judging, just curious. I typically don't spend much time under level 50)
And EQ's tradeskills really aren't made for low levels. The only things worth making are high level items (say level 70 and up) with a few exceptions, usually involving baking, brewing, pottery (powersources), or tailoring (bags). The devs don't seem to care about tradeskills below that. It's been 20 years and Shaman still don't have a way to get from 231 to 300+ without farming the crap out of a small number of zones (Sirens Grotto/Coirnav, the Dreadlands, etc) or employing a druid bot (foraging in DoN zones). I always tell friends who start in EQ or return that I am their friend and friends don't let friends do EQ tradeskills. Worst crafting system in the genre, bar none. All of the required farming and subcombines and being able to FAIL trivial combines, it's just awful. But as Ngreth, SKlug (yes, that long ago) and JChan have said, they don't have the manhours to really make it better (and a revamp is totally out of the question).

crafted stuff.... sighs, my very 1st druid i ran did crafting. i found it useless!
every time i made the newest thing i could gather resources to make, i would find dropped armors weapons and upgrades that made the set of armors or weapons i could make useless to my druid.
by the time i made the armor i needed the next generation of armor.
the crafted stuff was always behind what i needed.
i used my druids crafting skills therefore to supply my lower characters with semi decent armors, that maybe lasted 5 leveles until i started finding drops that were better.
so to this day making crafted anything is a waste of time.
at least for the sewing or smithing
it will forever be to little too late for the leader of your alts.
you will always find better stuff in drops.
crafted stuff is only good for alts below the level of the crafter.

While I agree that crafting could be better, I disagree about it being useless. I tailor some great 20 slotted bags, And tailored my armor for my level 98 mage. It's a big upgrade from the HOT armor I had quested in my high 80's. But old tailored stuff was terrible. I do wish they would make tradeskills a bit better and more rewarding.
