WoW is almost 20 years old and they are pricing their expansion as if the game is just being released. Blizzard is out of their minds doing this with Dragonflight being the lowest selling expansion in the games history and with the population being BARELY above FFXIVs now. A base price for an expansion should not be above $39.99 and even that is too high for WoW since the story has sucked as long as it has. The developers do not have a full grasp on what their problems actually are in why people left and why WoW has such a horrible time retaining new players as they are making THAT even worse now that they are going to be making Dragonflight, the "leveling experience". "Hey we have a game with 20 YEARS worth of content, come join us as we try to make you not do ANY OF IT and making you confused as fuck...but, come for the STORY that we dont want you to even know!". ~ Blizzard developers. They are shooting themselves in the foot with a bazooka and dont even realize it.

Not to give them ideas or anything to get people to buy the heroic and epic edition, but I'd be a lot more inclined to buy the more expensive editions if they came with a free token thing that you could redeem for a race or faction change, that has way more value to me then a boost or a mount or a xmog set.
Pro tipp: Buy the base edition and wait for a sale to get the other editions. Last time I could buy the highest edition for 13 euro which included the 30 day playtime so I got the highest edition and saved 99 cents by not paying for a 30 day sub in that time.
I did that when is started back to dragonflight. The epic edition upgrade was on sale for 20 bucks for me so 5 dollars more I got a whole lot of goodies. not as good of a deal as you got. but still good imo
@@_jvyden_5156 Yup that helps aswell. I have 60 out of 60 chara on 70 qnd 67 70's in total, so nothing for me. But many player don't like leveling or some may be new or had a break and want to play with friends on max level so this is fine.
Its exactly like you said: You dont get the feeling of playing early, instead you get the feeling of playing later than everyone else. Especally in a mmo INA NEW EXP, its feels very very bad.
I'm not big into professions or AH stuff, but I imagine the early access could have some real gnarly impact there, even if they prevent learning/gathering/progressing professions during those 3 days.
Yeah, there are always bugs or oversights too that get hot fixed after a day or two, there was a quest mob in df that was super easy to kill and gave you really really good skinning loot. It got fixed after a day but I made like a million gold in that time. Same happened in SL too.
@@dulcetwho5770 doesn't appear so. i checked the old wowhead posts and screenshots, nothing about early access or even beta. it did have 60 days of gametime instead of 30 though. D4 had early access, maybe thats what youre remembering? EDIT: appears Dracthyr were available early.
Just a heads up that yes you do get the Renown boost BUT it seems to be bugged at the moment as none of the vendors seem to recognize your standing with them so pretty much everything I hadn't unlocked on other characters with lower renown is still locked. I can't say how wide spread this is but there are a few threads on the official bug forum regarding this as well as some classes that are missing gear from the 424 set.
Bugged for me as well. Even purchased a second 70 boost in game just to check :(. Not sure if it’s campaign related since you can’t start the initial campaign quest. Or something else.
I think reminding people or letting those who don't know that if they got a lot of gold they can turn it into blizz cash. It's around 330k gold to get 15.00 blizz cash that can used to buy from the blizz shop that incudes xpacs, game time, transfers, boosts and so on. The people might not have the cash to buy it but if they got the gold they can convert it. I know people who farm a lot and pay their game times, factions changes and so on.
Nice suggestion. If only I was good enough at gold farming to make 1.32 mil to save $60 lol I don't have many responsibilities (no kids :P) so it's basically half a day's pay but this endeavour could take me a month or more and still not cover the $100 edition with tax included. Early access feels kinda discriminatory to people who can't afford it, as if $15 a month isn't bad enough...that's a Gamepass sub, and you get way more value there.
@@Rob165x Making gold is easy enough but yes this amount of gold would require a lot more work. I wasn't saying to use all gold to pay but you could get 15.00 for around 300k gold. If you can come up with 600k gold you can use that to make the difference up.

I returned to a fresh account after a decade away. In the last month or two I have just leveled a wide range of characters and decided to start endgame stuff in 10.2 with as many 70s as I could manage to level before it drops. Going to have Shaman, Paladin, Monk, Warrior, and Druid at 70. Then this boost comes out and let me add a Warlock and skip rep grinds that I hadn't actually started yet. So I feel like I am all the sudden caught up to current content with 6x 70s, seems like I was EXACTLY the type of person this boost was made for...
Its awful. You almost NEED a friend to help out or read a lot / watch videos to not get overwhelmed Friends of mine tried playing and realized its just too much at once.
i feel a silverlining to the early access stuff is that the leveling zones, in theory; server stability should be better but also the starter zones might not be as packed with other players
i havent play WOW for some time but i do follow the story Sylvanas is one of my favorite WOW characters so ive followed her stories through you tube vids and read her book.. Ive also followed the Ups and downs of wow over the years so my advice would be to wait and see if they deliver on their promises before pre ordering !!
@@LeeQuesada-CoTGaming the point is to use the current tier set bonus to help during M+ and prob normal raid or so, since the 424s provided depending on the class you play doesn't really provide the best stats for the class. keep in mind tier set bonus can range from 10-25% damage increase.
I will say first that i loved seeing Chris on stage again. His passion is very infectious. Having said that i do think a early access locked behind an expensive edition is really scummy. The dev side side of Blizzard has improved alot, the business side not so much. I think Diablo 4 started a precedent with early access locked behind an expensive edition purchase.
Personally early access doesn't bother me. If starting the next expansion 3 days behind a bunch of others means a smoother experience for me server- and potentially quest objective wise, I am all for it.
I really hate the early access. I always buy the epic version, but i won't be doing it if they keep the early access, id rather start with most of my guildies and friends. That is a really horrible move and the only way we can do something about it is not buying the epic edition, unluckily. 3 days of EA gets you screwed if you want to sell proffesion equipment and materials. Also, if you wanted to level in warmode, forget it because a bunch of lvl 80 will be waiting to kill you. It completly ruins the experience and segregates the community.
Having played WOW since 2007 though these days more a casual player, I might suggest one look at using in-game gold as a purchasing tender. Current tokens are running in the 300k range and if you use a 325k per token average its going to run around 2 million gold for the elite package. (Like the 5M dino mount, its doable.) Even if you're only able to fund a portion of cost with gold tokens, that might take the sting to your hard earned cash a little less painful).
@@Fleshbag453 I end up just doing a few types AH business with farmed materials. Don't really make anything - I use to, but the raw mats sell for more or equal to the finished item. JC materials and mining and one skinning item on occasion. But I get it. Some people aren't built that way. Just doing normal questing still will add up if you're not spending on stuff. I figure I can make about 100K gold a week. But I don't buy stuff unless it's to purchase items that are under the vendor price and then just flip them. Not huge rewards there but every little bit helps.
@@Fleshbag453 I don't either. I am on a medium server as my main, have a couple of off servers, one low, one full. I have 1.1M on the full server which I made from selling and buying pets. But pets, transmog and just about anything that isn't a mat, SUCKS at the moment. Part of that is due to the nature of who plays wow at this point. Need new blood. or a new expac next year. I doubt today's patch is going to make much difference though I'm hoping for a reduction of the cost of a token. I'm keeping my eye on it
Don't know if you mentioned it anywhere, but also when you complete the storm races on the new mount and get all gold, you get a title 'the Storm Rider' with some feat of strength achievements.
Haven't played since mid-BFA, but Metzen coming back and their actually being a planned storyline got me excited to play again. Since I didn't own Dragonflight, this pre-order was worth it for me. I didn't realize how good that 70 boost was, now I'm considering just boosting one of my two BFA characters, or maybe I should boost a new class I've never played. So many possibilities. I do want to play through the rest of BFA, Shadowlands, and Dragonflight though, I like the quest content and campaign stories.

Last time I pre-ordered was Legion. I still have 4 boost tokens I don't use as I like to play the characters I will use for the next expansion. I don't like that we're not allowed to adjust the things we have in the pre-order pack. I don't need a toy, a level up token, a Dragonflight, trading post coins, and a 30days of gaming time, but I can't exclude those things. My guess it's 90 dollars for an early access for most of the players.
The genius (evil genius) of the tiers is like you said how bad the middle one is. If you get more than the base there’s no reason to stop at $70, i would be curious who buys that tier and why.
I buy nothing but base. That's me though as I'm not interested in the other features as it's mainly eye candy for an extra $40. Right now Blizzard is trying to get me to buy Diablo IV at half price, which won't happen. But it doesn't say much for all those poor souls who bought it at the original price.

I don't think the three days early is a big deal. I usually start the first weekend to let the starting zone clear up. I also work and have a family. So if I get the epic edition at most, I'll log in to watch the cinematics and just go to the starting zone to get a new inn hearthstone spot.
Early access should either be for all preorders or none at all. Feels like a massive premium to gain 3 days early access.. 30 days of gametime makes it a little bit easier, but still, a lot of money for 3 days. They will most likely time it so that, if you preorder for early access then you can start in the beginning of a weekend, and if you don't you'll start in the start of the next week, where a lot of people gotta work anyways. So feels more and more like they are trying to push you to spend that extra.
Given that alot of games have so many issues and bugs on a launch day, early access isn't really a selling point anymore unless I am very hard pressed to play the game. The only bearing that this will have for me is that it will either be a little harder or easier to level up once the expansion is released.
For me, the Heroic and Epic versions should not exist and everything should be part of the basic purchase in a game in which you pay for a subscription, Blizzard is milking money from people for things that should be available as part of the game and subscription, Instead you have a paid game early acces with a subscription and a store packed to the limits.....

I think it should be both the middle and top rank of edition should get the early access with maybe a day or two difference between them. Still have that value of getting in early, but also more people being there potentially to play with and populate the world too which is a nice value too. I would have also done it that each rank gave you 10/20/30 days playtime respectively but that is more just equalizing abit of value to me, and most likely would never happen.
for me as someone who pays monthly, if not getting the basic edition I think the epic edition is most worth it. This is purely because of the 30 days game time, the extras end up costing like 5 bucks extra. Still think its a pretty garbage thing to include early access. But at least M+ and such wont be available right away.
I honestly don't get why people still believe them when they say they cant' solve the problem of too many players in the same zones. Everquest 2, in 2004, solved this easily. Every zone in the game would be instanced when it hit 80% of capacity, and new players would go to the newly created instance. They even had "bells" you could use to manually change instances, so you could group with friends or trade in town (which is why they had the 20% headroom). Once in a group, the whole group would always go to the same instance as you moved around the game world.
didn't preorders originally exist to guarantee physical copies of things so that one would not be stuck unable to buy the game they wanted on its release day? how did we get to preordering digital content and those preorders determining a game company's estimated profit or worth for the year?
I really feel like people are making a bigger deal out of the three day early access than it is. It’s more hitting people in the FOMO than anything else. And yeah, I get that it feels like a money, grubbing milking the whales kind of maneuver. I think people forget that mythic plus and raids don’t release initially. Item levels are usually restricted before the start of the season. The most anyone will really get is mythic zero dungeons done. Maybe if you want to make some gold flooding the new materials onto the auction house will net you something. But other than getting a bit of a jumpstart on reputation/renown levels, and getting to max level a little sooner, I’m having a hard time seeing how it does much to be online earlier- especially once we get more than a couple weeks into the new expansion.
I agree that it is being way over blown but then again many content creators have built their reputation/brand on trashing anything Blizzard does. They have built a community that expects to hear bad things, so they have to make a major stink about something or their own community would revolt, costing the creator real money….one of the major reasons I like this channel. It is based on quality content, not feeding the angry mob for views.
Its totally required to buy early start if you want to lvl crafting, you will never be able catch up ppl that are grinding mats 3 days earlier tham you, its pay to win for sure
Its kinda clever... base you get the dlc and a char boost where other games it costs peanuts. then mid tier you get a shiny mount (only people with more money than sense normally get store mounts but fair enough) then the last tier which you HAVE to get if you care at all about gold which obviously has real life value! I mean 3 days? say on average your a very bad gatherer thats still probs 1mill gold each day and in the EU a token is worth 396k gold (must not be many people playing atm) thats still 7.5 tokens which in the UK is £127.50. And thats if you suck at gathering which is seeing yellow dots and right clicking on nodes... early access for an mmo which you already pay monthly for and the highest prices for services there is in the market and so on... I think its just reached a new height for money grabbing with it.
Hi Kelani. I just pre ordered the expansion to get a renown boost for all my characters. It only took affect for the one character I boosted but not all the characters. You mentioned that the renown boost was account wide.
It's funny you picked the TBC example, because that was the exact same scenario I thought of, and I agree with you that it just feels out of place for an MMO.

No one is making you buy they higher packs,you can easily upgrade in the future with ingame gold or a bnet sale.They tried to do beta access with pre orders in mists.
The heroic edition is just there for "visual effect", so it doesn't look like there's only 2 choices. It's a pretty common tactic in sales, to make it appear you have plenty of choices in order to doesn't look like they're forcing you to the ones the sales people really want you to buy. The beta and 3 day early access is really what they want people to pay for. If you value those 2 things at $40 then by all means spend the money. Because they know only hardcore fans are gonna pay for mounts, toys or transmogs, but much more people are gonna pay for the beta and early access. It is a genius move on the sales team part.
But its Blizzard. Your paying for nothing because those "3 days early access" will be nothing but bugs & emergency server downtime for inane amount of time. Paying for a beta is just total ass.
Yea people trying to explain it away like its a good thing because there wont be downtime.. :D ofc there will be ..the company ignored this for decades because they dont want to spend on setting up a few more server for a week. 3 days early access will have long queue time too and a bunch of errors anyway. 3 days later things will rise even more when the rest of the players will try to log in all at once. Selling this in wow when we have increased box prices for less and less content - they cut a patch cycle again just like they did with Shadowlands - + we pay a monthly sub yet they dont care about setting up more server for a week to provide a smooth launch experience. I was angry like a lot of players about the early access until I saw this video which prompted me to do some quick research. Details below but in a nutshell: I think now it's actually fair pricing, and the backlash could have been avoided by blizzard, simply by having the base edition cost the £70 with no early access gimmick, and then have various other editions on top with extra goodies, should people desire them. I will be using UK values as I live in the UK so convert if necessary. 1. Statistically, the price of a highly anticipated AAA game in the UK 2023 is around £70. 2. 1 month of WoW subscription costs £10. 3. If we take the average price of a highly anticipated AAA game, and add the price of 1 month of WoW subscription to it, we get a sum total of £80. 4. For £75 we can have the new WoW expansion on what I'd call the release date as I think the early access wording is just a gimmick, 1 month of WoW subscription, access to the expansion beta and various other goodies in game that may or may not be interesting to players depending on what they play the game for/are interested in. In conclusion, I think Blizz kinda shot themselves in the foot with the wording, because if the base edition pre-order was just £70, playable at launch for all on the same day, included a level 70 boost and there was no messing around with the "early access" wording, people would have been way less likely to get upset as everyone knows that the prices of base games has been going steadily up. They then could have had extra options on top for lets say £75/£85 that they could have spun as the heroic/epic editions.

I bought the epic pre order and extremely happy with it. Saves me plenty of time grinding reputations. I was very surprised I even got the heritage armor transmog inspite of the big warning that boosted characters are ineligible for heritage armor transmog . Awesome preorder for a lazy gamer like me 😊
To me the early access is really only impactful for those who farm professions hard to make gold. Having 3 days ahead of the masses would let you flood the market and rake in some cash early on. Since I never focused on that, it personally won't have much impact. So, it really comes down to do I want the mounts, pets, etc. Agree on the heroic vs epic. No reason to go with the heroic to save $5.
people have always made cash early on. but when you put it like that it means that the prices will be lower than normal. ppl still have full time jobs. This is really not that much different than the expansion launching on tuesday and you not being able to fully play until friday night and all weekend
It will have an impact on a world first race players as well. If you need to level up 4 characters you would want to start earliest possible. I don't remember if the beta access is only available to those who pre-ordered the Epic edition as well. But basically the AH will be fucked by the time everyone will only start leveling because of the bots that started 3 days ahead
I will be getting the epic edition. I like "all the stuff" and tbh, for those who can't afford it now, start saving up your money. We have plenty of time to get the heroic/epic editions and if you really want it, it won't put such a huge dent in your bank account. Think of it as old-timey layaway! My parents and grandparents sung the praises of layaway when I was a kid. :)
Be warned if you buy the epic edition you CAN NOT get a refund later on. I did that mistake in shadowlands, preordered on day 1 and when all the systems got out in more detail i wanted a refund but they refused since it contains game time. As soon as you buy it the game time gets added and makes it impossible to refund, according to multiple tickets i made a short while after preordering Q.Q I myself will probably buy the base game and then pay for the upgrade when it inevitably becomes on sale.
I think the 3 days early access is something we will need to see how it plays out. If players can only level, profession grind, and thats about it, then I would think it could be OK as it would lessen the amount of people pouring into the starting zone at launch. However, let's be honest, someone will it max level (so unless you paid, no chance at world/realm first), and someone will capitalize on farming mats and set the prices in the AH. This will also make it impossible leveling in War Mode.
I think that is a really narrow view of the problem. Yes, being ahead of other players is one potential problem, sure. But the bigger problem is just the overall social aspect. A new expansion is a happening, similar to a big sporting event. Part of the whole experience is being there with all your friends (and the rest of the player base) and discover everything new at the same time. It's like Kelani said in the video, imagine sittning on the side lines while everyone else runs into the dark portal on the release of The Burning Crusade. It's almost not even possible to imagine. And it's ironic how they talked about their experiences on release day back in 2004 on the stage at Blizzcon, at the same time as they remove that same experience going forward. It really sucks, end of en era for sure.
Since you asked for opinions on the 3 day EA thing; I've played other MMOs in the past with a similar system (FF14 Reborn in particular and I think SWTOR - that one was so long ago I can barely remember lol) and it really didn't affect anything. Like you said it mainly was an advantage for levelling since the zones were fairly empty but fewer players also meant that dungeons etc. weren't easy to run unless you had a group of friends playing so there really wasn't much of an advantage there. And those previous games both had longer Early Access windows than just the 3 days WoW is offering so I doubt it'll matter at all - beyond hopefully making for a more stable launch period.
I might have been more open to the boost preorder bit if I had not spent a LOT of time in the past few weeks with timewalking to get basically all my chars to 60+... and given we have another one starting with the 10.2 patch, and no doubt plenty more before the expansion, I do not see any chance of me not having all my characters to seventy. As to the renown jump... it would only be worth it to help my hunter get to 23 to train dragonkin, but warbands is going to unlock that regardless... so another moot point, imo.
I think I'm gonna buy the epic edition and join the beta... I really want to get into that beta. I'm excited about the future as I haven't been in a long time.
I hope it’s an early beta access. They did this for MoP on a promotion. Buy d3 get some stuff and beta for MoP. I got the invite a few weeks before MoP was released. Sort of killed it for me. Fingers crossed it’s early so I can join in on testing from the near start.
@@FernandoMartinez-zh6jz I’d guess it is a staggered invite. This is a new thing though for the epic version and blizzard hasn’t released a beta invite plan for it. So I’m just guessing.
I hate that they are selling 3 daily early access and that will be the big selling point of the Epic Edition. They know the eagerness WoW players have to get into the new expansion and I think many will give in to that, but no launch has been without its problems. I'm more inclined to ignore the Epic and let the peeps who got the early access have the launch problems, while I wait for the normal launch, that might have gone through some small patched, bug fixes. The only thing I like that is added with the Epic Edition is the Deepdweller's Earthen Heartstone effect, I like thunder and lightning effects. Bud to now already buy the new expansion, while we still have a year of Dragonflight left. We have currently no clue if they will keep up their quality until then. So I will wait until a couple months before the launch of the new expansion, BlizzCon got me going, bud I will not jump in blindly. Bud also, my weakness is the physical collector's edition, I love the artwork books.
Please say I am misunderstanding this; we pay for pre-order for an expansion we have no clue if it would be good. On top of that you have to do things in-game in order to receive the items you pay for? I really hope I am just confused and that Blizzard has not sunk to yet another new low.
I think early access is fine to me personally. it doesn't really bother me either way if I decide to buy the $90 one or the Base one. or anyone for that matter decide to go whatever route they like. I am pre-order and play at my own pace and not anyone else who decide to pre-order early access or not. they posted the prices and what you get for each one regardless how people feel about it. you either get it or not. it is what it is and just move on.
speaking of the versions as a whole, yeah the Heroic Edition is a waste. the since the Epic Edition is the only version that comes with game time, you can minus $15 from the cost of the Epic Edition making it only $5 more than the Heroic Edition so why would you not just drop the extra $5 on it and call it good? and $5 for a battle pet, toy, hearthstone, +250 traders tender (compaired to the heroic version), beta access AND 3 days "early" access? that is one hell of a deal. i think the early access can be good from a server stand point.. allowing some people in "early" (or forcing others to wait) will spread out the load on the servers in theory but yeah your concerns are extremely valid too
No joke I have ignored renown so much that using the boost on an alt would give even my main a slight rep buff. She’s at like 15 on a lot of the factions.
I want to address the giant elephant in the room that noone seems to be noticing.....What if you already own DF? Do you get a discount? Added goodies? What? At this point, I may not even purchase the xpac. I don't see why I should pay 89 dollars for a new xpac that has on it's coat tails an xpac I ALREADY own! Just doesn't seem fair to those of us who already own DF.
As a returning player the base is enough.. for 50$ i get dragonflight + the new expac that comes out in what.. 8 months? a character boost that i probably wont use or ill just throw on an alt for farming purposes. not a bad deal imo.
I bought the epic edition for the toy and hearthstone and the beta access. I don't care about being in 3 days early, since I work a lot and will probably not even be able to get in there on launch day. And I don't care about what other people do in WoW because I'm there for me. I am a solo WoW player and only do group content when necessary for quest completion so the MMO part of it could go away and I wouldn't miss it.
They need to just add the early access to all preorder tiers and then people wouldn't really be mad about it. Id imagine that they will end up doing this closer to release, but rake in those 90$ preorders first before they do.
A major oversight is the first to max profession achievements/titles Unless they literally lock you out of professions entirely, including mats, you NEED to buy the $90 or be completely out of the running. You can’t compete with people who have 3 days to grind out the professions and you are completely out of any chance to get the title
you cant compete with ppl who play the game as a full time job anyway. every expansion, when you get off work, they're already max level, max professions. and farming heroic dung/pvp gear and rep before you hit the first level
Well if you look at. The 3 days early is just the bugs day. Like how many xpac launch been smooth. So the 3 days is just time to smooth out the bugs. Plus if the early access launch day is on a Tuesday and normal day is Friday. It means people might not need to take the days off
its not that bad. maybe im lucky but i never had major problems on release day. DF launch was very smooth. the worst problem i ever had going into a new expension once the gate opens was i couldnt see other online players. game did fine tho. i cant imagine the game being unplayable for 3 days,

Anyone that thinks they will actually get to play on launch day must be new to MMOs. Beta on launch day, folks! Although, the last release was better than average.
Absolutely buying the epic version for now. many players may not aware of this, you are not just getting a new mount that only exist one year later, but that mount comes with a new skill also, that new skill will only use one flying energy bar but lasting much longer and will allow you to travel at a even higher speed. That skill currently has some bugs which will not allow you to change direction during the speed boost but I expect a hot fix will take care of it.
Also, the 3 days early access is huge. The cost of the epic version is for basically 6 minus 1 token (30days playing time), I guarantee you will make more than 10 tokens of profit with that 3 days early access in either professions or simply farming in the new expansion.
OK so it is a bug then? I was wondering why I was struggling to get through some of the hoops in the Storm riding races that you needed to complete for the quest that gives you the Stormriding set.
Have to say, I agree with the early access thing being kind of potentially divisive. Many can't afford $90, whether they want the goodies or not, and then you have a portion of the players resenting another portion from the get-go on the new expansion. I've already started saving up, but I'm going to have to see how long we have to take advantage of the pre-order perks, because I'mma have to save up for a _while_ to afford even the base edition. *_sigh_* Thanks for the breakdown on the upcoming new goodies. 😁👍🏻
Early access is in other MMORPGs like FFXIV but it is part of the base preorder, not locked behind a $90 paywall. It's the charging folks extra for what a head start thing that really bothers me.
FFXIV is _way_ more predatory than WoW (and i love FFXIV), people always seem to be extra upset about Blizzard doing things that plenty of other studios do and it's pretty weird. Imagine if the WoW shop had new emotes and dances that were $8 like with FFXIV, people would lose their mind...

So far all I've heard is "they'll get ahead on professions" but in DF the only recipes worth a dam were gated by content and literally everyone could make the basic stuff needed for leveling/just hit 70 as they leveled. I think people are way more concerned about the theory of being "behind" then the actual realistic implications of it.
I paid $49.99 for pre-order of new expansion, came with a lvl 70 character boost.. which I created enhancement shaman, logged in and had 424 ilvl gear, bags, trinkets, rings, everything. and all dragon glyphs found. for $50 that wasn't too bad at all!
Since I'm not a world first racer, I don't at all mind the early access. I've never participated in the beta for a game even when I was given the option to since I don't want the story spoiled.
Like me, if you DIDNT have dragonflight at all, then $89 for 2 expacs, a mount, and 30 days game time is worth it for sure, and the boost is NICE. It was so confusing for me that I haven't even played my boosted character 🤣
tbh wish blizz gave a second option on how to use the game time. im fine with paying my 6 months but whenever i get the spare gametime i would honestly want to give it to a friend who cant afford things like game time or to even gift them over having the time sit there till i stop paying the subs etc
I think the worry over the 3 days is not really worth the bother. They opened the first raid 2 weeks after release this year mainly just to beat the Xmas rush, and other than the 1% of the player base doing mythic raiding, nobody missed a beat. The actual impact on players will be minimal, and as you said maybe getting a big chunk of the player base in the game 3 days early will help the launch. This is just the world we live in now.
I agree. nobody is getting any significant advantage by playing 3 days early. raids aren't going to be out yet, neither is M+ or anything like that. ppl can do their professions, but going by the dragonflight model, they're going to be stuck at like 50 skill without any good patterns for endgame.

Because you're speaking from a general pov. For example, you'll sit around while some of your friends and guildies enjoy new content. While youtube is showing off story and everything. While your favourite streamers are doing the same. I wouldn't even be able to level in warmode if I wouldn't start early on, because I'd be camped by max level people from the very start. I'm usually so far ahead in leveling, I never really encounter anyone in warmode that would stand a chance and attack me and this means I can level 10% faster and not waste time, without any inconvenience. I'll level alone this time (yay for MMOs, right?) because my friend can't afford it and I level in warmode and I like leveling fast. In 8 hours or less I'll be max level, next couple days be done with hcs and M0. Have fun with your longer time for finding a group. By the time my poorer friends get on, they'll have to pug their shit, because I won't be sitting around doing nothing. It also makes a horrible separation between the "rich" and the "poor". It will be the rich people leveling together and enjoying the game and the poor waiting around while others are already on it and even done for the week. This is creating a problem for only one reason: greed. If the effect would be minimal and Blizz thought nobody would really care, they wouldn't have added it. But the reality is, it's gonna sell a lot because of this. A lot of people will buy because they don't want to wait around while others play. And Blizz knows this. This hands down will make them sell epic edition like nothing else would.

I mean, sure, but every AAA game is released to make money, so I'm perplexed by your response. The way 95% of the players play the game, being "ahead" by 3 days means nothing. I'll log in on the "normal" time and be fine. People don't really level together that much anymore anyway, and given people people level at different speeds, by the time my friends are ready for heroic dungeons or some BGs, it'll be okay.

I think the 3 days early access is splitting the community/guildes/friend groups in halfe and that is a bad thing. in a pure singel player game like Starfield or hogwarths the 3 day is ok but if seen like it was in D4, because i am not that big of an Diablo fan i only bought the edition without the early accesses but 2 of my friends did and in the first time we didnt play tohether because they were 3 days ahead.
Any goodwill Blizzard has built up throughout Dragonflight, announcing Classic+*, doing Warbands, etc was nuked in 1 move with Early Access. We already pay $15/mo AND a $40 expansion every 2 years. The "Server load" argument is bullshit - that load spreads out within the first hour of every launch, and I've been a part of every launch since Cata. They don't need 3 days for it. And those first 48-72hr of any expansion are the most magical time of any expansion where everyone is new to the region, nobody has an ego yet, and everyone is discovering what there is to do. Locking people out of those first 72hr via a Paywall is absolutely inexcusable in a game I've already paid $3k for over the years. But I guess that's not good enough for them. The fact that there are apologists for this is appalling to me.
Ppl b*ching about a mere 3 day head start. As if all are top tier players. Nothing will happen in 3 days for you. I came pretty late in most patches and still was fully geared and had Cutting edge before other ppl.
For me, the most expensive one seems to be the best value to me, only because of the mount and pet. I didn't realize it came with 30 days of game time, so that is sort of a discount, I guess. As for three days early access, I don't care too much about that personally, as I never speed run my first toon. I like to take my time and read every quest, as I am one who enjoys the story and exploring.

WoW is almost 20 years old and they are pricing their expansion as if the game is just being released. Blizzard is out of their minds doing this with Dragonflight being the lowest selling expansion in the games history and with the population being BARELY above FFXIVs now.
A base price for an expansion should not be above $39.99 and even that is too high for WoW since the story has sucked as long as it has. The developers do not have a full grasp on what their problems actually are in why people left and why WoW has such a horrible time retaining new players as they are making THAT even worse now that they are going to be making Dragonflight, the "leveling experience".

Not to give them ideas or anything to get people to buy the heroic and epic edition, but I'd be a lot more inclined to buy the more expensive editions if they came with a free token thing that you could redeem for a race or faction change, that has way more value to me then a boost or a mount or a xmog set.

Pro tipp: Buy the base edition and wait for a sale to get the other editions. Last time I could buy the highest edition for 13 euro which included the 30 day playtime so I got the highest edition and saved 99 cents by not paying for a 30 day sub in that time.
I did that when is started back to dragonflight. The epic edition upgrade was on sale for 20 bucks for me so 5 dollars more I got a whole lot of goodies. not as good of a deal as you got. but still good imo

Its exactly like you said: You dont get the feeling of playing early, instead you get the feeling of playing later than everyone else. Especally in a mmo INA NEW EXP, its feels very very bad.
I'm not big into professions or AH stuff, but I imagine the early access could have some real gnarly impact there, even if they prevent learning/gathering/progressing professions during those 3 days.
yes that's the big issue, its such a huge economic boost that its going to be crushing to not buy it for anyone who likes to make money.
Yeah, there are always bugs or oversights too that get hot fixed after a day or two, there was a quest mob in df that was super easy to kill and gave you really really good skinning loot. It got fixed after a day but I made like a million gold in that time. Same happened in SL too.

Just a heads up that yes you do get the Renown boost BUT it seems to be bugged at the moment as none of the vendors seem to recognize your standing with them so pretty much everything I hadn't unlocked on other characters with lower renown is still locked. I can't say how wide spread this is but there are a few threads on the official bug forum regarding this as well as some classes that are missing gear from the 424 set.

This is the same as BFA when they said you now have shared rep. That was utter BS, nothing changed and the vendors just gave you the finger.
I did the orientation quest line and it shows all the reps at 20+
I think reminding people or letting those who don't know that if they got a lot of gold they can turn it into blizz cash. It's around 330k gold to get 15.00 blizz cash that can used to buy from the blizz shop that incudes xpacs, game time, transfers, boosts and so on. The people might not have the cash to buy it but if they got the gold they can convert it. I know people who farm a lot and pay their game times, factions changes and so on.

I don't have many responsibilities (no kids :P) so it's basically half a day's pay but this endeavour could take me a month or more and still not cover the $100 edition with tax included. Early access feels kinda discriminatory to people who can't afford it, as if $15 a month isn't bad enough...that's a Gamepass sub, and you get way more value there.
@@Rob165x Making gold is easy enough but yes this amount of gold would require a lot more work. I wasn't saying to use all gold to pay but you could get 15.00 for around 300k gold. If you can come up with 600k gold you can use that to make the difference up.

I agree about the early access. The only up side is I think they wanted to try and stagger the people running into the new zones and the extra money.
I returned to a fresh account after a decade away. In the last month or two I have just leveled a wide range of characters and decided to start endgame stuff in 10.2 with as many 70s as I could manage to level before it drops. Going to have Shaman, Paladin, Monk, Warrior, and Druid at 70. Then this boost comes out and let me add a Warlock and skip rep grinds that I hadn't actually started yet. So I feel like I am all the sudden caught up to current content with 6x 70s, seems like I was EXACTLY the type of person this boost was made for...

i feel a silverlining to the early access stuff is that the leveling zones, in theory; server stability should be better but also the starter zones might not be as packed with other players
i havent play WOW for some time but i do follow the story Sylvanas is one of my favorite WOW characters so ive followed her stories through you tube vids and read her book..
Ive also followed the Ups and downs of wow over the years so my advice would be to wait and see if they deliver on their promises before pre ordering !!

@@LeeQuesada-CoTGaming the point is to use the current tier set bonus to help during M+ and prob normal raid or so, since the 424s provided depending on the class you play doesn't really provide the best stats for the class. keep in mind tier set bonus can range from 10-25% damage increase.
The boosted character is higher than any of the characters I've been playing the whole time :D

I will say first that i loved seeing Chris on stage again. His passion is very infectious. Having said that i do think a early access locked behind an expensive edition is really scummy.
The dev side side of Blizzard has improved alot, the business side not so much. I think Diablo 4 started a precedent with early access locked behind an expensive edition purchase.

Personally early access doesn't bother me. If starting the next expansion 3 days behind a bunch of others means a smoother experience for me server- and potentially quest objective wise, I am all for it.
I really hate the early access. I always buy the epic version, but i won't be doing it if they keep the early access, id rather start with most of my guildies and friends. That is a really horrible move and the only way we can do something about it is not buying the epic edition, unluckily. 3 days of EA gets you screwed if you want to sell proffesion equipment and materials. Also, if you wanted to level in warmode, forget it because a bunch of lvl 80 will be waiting to kill you. It completly ruins the experience and segregates the community.
You can you know, for the 5 extra dollars choose to wait with your pallies to start playing.
Having played WOW since 2007 though these days more a casual player, I might suggest one look at using in-game gold as a purchasing tender. Current tokens are running in the 300k range and if you use a 325k per token average its going to run around 2 million gold for the elite package. (Like the 5M dino mount, its doable.) Even if you're only able to fund a portion of cost with gold tokens, that might take the sting to your hard earned cash a little less painful).

@@Fleshbag453 I end up just doing a few types AH business with farmed materials. Don't really make anything - I use to, but the raw mats sell for more or equal to the finished item. JC materials and mining and one skinning item on occasion. But I get it. Some people aren't built that way. Just doing normal questing still will add up if you're not spending on stuff. I figure I can make about 100K gold a week. But I don't buy stuff unless it's to purchase items that are under the vendor price and then just flip them. Not huge rewards there but every little bit helps.
@@Fleshbag453 I don't either. I am on a medium server as my main, have a couple of off servers, one low, one full. I have 1.1M on the full server which I made from selling and buying pets. But pets, transmog and just about anything that isn't a mat, SUCKS at the moment. Part of that is due to the nature of who plays wow at this point. Need new blood. or a new expac next year. I doubt today's patch is going to make much difference though I'm hoping for a reduction of the cost of a token. I'm keeping my eye on it
Don't know if you mentioned it anywhere, but also when you complete the storm races on the new mount and get all gold, you get a title 'the Storm Rider' with some feat of strength achievements.
Haven't played since mid-BFA, but Metzen coming back and their actually being a planned storyline got me excited to play again.
Since I didn't own Dragonflight, this pre-order was worth it for me.
I didn't realize how good that 70 boost was, now I'm considering just boosting one of my two BFA characters, or maybe I should boost a new class I've never played. So many possibilities. I do want to play through the rest of BFA, Shadowlands, and Dragonflight though, I like the quest content and campaign stories.
I think these expansions are getting quite expensive with their tactics of selling you these little bonuses to make you feel like you've got "value".

Last time I pre-ordered was Legion. I still have 4 boost tokens I don't use as I like to play the characters I will use for the next expansion. I don't like that we're not allowed to adjust the things we have in the pre-order pack. I don't need a toy, a level up token, a Dragonflight, trading post coins, and a 30days of gaming time, but I can't exclude those things. My guess it's 90 dollars for an early access for most of the players.
The genius (evil genius) of the tiers is like you said how bad the middle one is. If you get more than the base there’s no reason to stop at $70, i would be curious who buys that tier and why.
I buy nothing but base. That's me though as I'm not interested in the other features as it's mainly eye candy for an extra $40. Right now Blizzard is trying to get me to buy Diablo IV at half price, which won't happen. But it doesn't say much for all those poor souls who bought it at the original price.

I don't think the three days early is a big deal. I usually start the first weekend to let the starting zone clear up. I also work and have a family. So if I get the epic edition at most, I'll log in to watch the cinematics and just go to the starting zone to get a new inn hearthstone spot.

Feels like a massive premium to gain 3 days early access.. 30 days of gametime makes it a little bit easier, but still, a lot of money for 3 days.
They will most likely time it so that, if you preorder for early access then you can start in the beginning of a weekend, and if you don't you'll start in the start of the next week, where a lot of people gotta work anyways.
So feels more and more like they are trying to push you to spend that extra.
I just want the physical collector's edition. I need it on the shelf with others. Hopefully it also gives me access to some of the digital bonuses

Given that alot of games have so many issues and bugs on a launch day, early access isn't really a selling point anymore unless I am very hard pressed to play the game. The only bearing that this will have for me is that it will either be a little harder or easier to level up once the expansion is released.
For me, the Heroic and Epic versions should not exist and everything should be part of the basic purchase in a game in which you pay for a subscription, Blizzard is milking money from people for things that should be available as part of the game and subscription, Instead you have a paid game early acces with a subscription and a store packed to the limits.....

I think it should be both the middle and top rank of edition should get the early access with maybe a day or two difference between them. Still have that value of getting in early, but also more people being there potentially to play with and populate the world too which is a nice value too. I would have also done it that each rank gave you 10/20/30 days playtime respectively but that is more just equalizing abit of value to me, and most likely would never happen.

for me as someone who pays monthly, if not getting the basic edition I think the epic edition is most worth it. This is purely because of the 30 days game time, the extras end up costing like 5 bucks extra. Still think its a pretty garbage thing to include early access. But at least M+ and such wont be available right away.
I honestly don't get why people still believe them when they say they cant' solve the problem of too many players in the same zones.
Everquest 2, in 2004, solved this easily. Every zone in the game would be instanced when it hit 80% of capacity, and new players would go to the newly created instance. They even had "bells" you could use to manually change instances, so you could group with friends or trade in town (which is why they had the 20% headroom). Once in a group, the whole group would always go to the same instance as you moved around the game world.
didn't preorders originally exist to guarantee physical copies of things so that one would not be stuck unable to buy the game they wanted on its release day? how did we get to preordering digital content and those preorders determining a game company's estimated profit or worth for the year?

I really feel like people are making a bigger deal out of the three day early access than it is. It’s more hitting people in the FOMO than anything else. And yeah, I get that it feels like a money, grubbing milking the whales kind of maneuver. I think people forget that mythic plus and raids don’t release initially. Item levels are usually restricted before the start of the season. The most anyone will really get is mythic zero dungeons done. Maybe if you want to make some gold flooding the new materials onto the auction house will net you something. But other than getting a bit of a jumpstart on reputation/renown levels, and getting to max level a little sooner, I’m having a hard time seeing how it does much to be online earlier- especially once we get more than a couple weeks into the new expansion.
I agree that it is being way over blown but then again many content creators have built their reputation/brand on trashing anything Blizzard does. They have built a community that expects to hear bad things, so they have to make a major stink about something or their own community would revolt, costing the creator real money….one of the major reasons I like this channel. It is based on quality content, not feeding the angry mob for views.
Its totally required to buy early start if you want to lvl crafting, you will never be able catch up ppl that are grinding mats 3 days earlier tham you, its pay to win for sure
Its kinda clever... base you get the dlc and a char boost where other games it costs peanuts. then mid tier you get a shiny mount (only people with more money than sense normally get store mounts but fair enough) then the last tier which you HAVE to get if you care at all about gold which obviously has real life value! I mean 3 days? say on average your a very bad gatherer thats still probs 1mill gold each day and in the EU a token is worth 396k gold (must not be many people playing atm) thats still 7.5 tokens which in the UK is £127.50. And thats if you suck at gathering which is seeing yellow dots and right clicking on nodes... early access for an mmo which you already pay monthly for and the highest prices for services there is in the market and so on... I think its just reached a new height for money grabbing with it.
The bottom line is that it's up to the individual buying the product. It doesn't really matter what others opinions are or what some video says.

Hi Kelani. I just pre ordered the expansion to get a renown boost for all my characters. It only took affect for the one character I boosted but not all the characters. You mentioned that the renown boost was account wide.

No one is making you buy they higher packs,you can easily upgrade in the future with ingame gold or a bnet sale.They tried to do beta access with pre orders in mists.
The heroic edition is just there for "visual effect", so it doesn't look like there's only 2 choices. It's a pretty common tactic in sales, to make it appear you have plenty of choices in order to doesn't look like they're forcing you to the ones the sales people really want you to buy.
The beta and 3 day early access is really what they want people to pay for. If you value those 2 things at $40 then by all means spend the money. Because they know only hardcore fans are gonna pay for mounts, toys or transmogs, but much more people are gonna pay for the beta and early access. It is a genius move on the sales team part.
But its Blizzard. Your paying for nothing because those "3 days early access" will be nothing but bugs & emergency server downtime for inane amount of time. Paying for a beta is just total ass.
I believe they should pay me if they want me to test their infinished product and receive bugreports.
Yea people trying to explain it away like its a good thing because there wont be downtime.. :D ofc there will be ..the company ignored this for decades because they dont want to spend on setting up a few more server for a week. 3 days early access will have long queue time too and a bunch of errors anyway. 3 days later things will rise even more when the rest of the players will try to log in all at once. Selling this in wow when we have increased box prices for less and less content - they cut a patch cycle again just like they did with Shadowlands - + we pay a monthly sub yet they dont care about setting up more server for a week to provide a smooth launch experience. And there are people who still think this company cares about them :D With these increasingly predatory monetization systems and providing less content they should really not drop the ball with the next expansion at the time when the game has record low player numbers. @@maleficentia8390
I was angry like a lot of players about the early access until I saw this video which prompted me to do some quick research. Details below but in a nutshell: I think now it's actually fair pricing, and the backlash could have been avoided by blizzard, simply by having the base edition cost the £70 with no early access gimmick, and then have various other editions on top with extra goodies, should people desire them. I will be using UK values as I live in the UK so convert if necessary.
1. Statistically, the price of a highly anticipated AAA game in the UK 2023 is around £70.
2. 1 month of WoW subscription costs £10.
3. If we take the average price of a highly anticipated AAA game, and add the price of 1 month of WoW subscription to it, we get a sum total of £80.
4. For £75 we can have the new WoW expansion on what I'd call the release date as I think the early access wording is just a gimmick, 1 month of WoW subscription, access to the expansion beta and various other goodies in game that may or may not be interesting to players depending on what they play the game for/are interested in.
In conclusion, I think Blizz kinda shot themselves in the foot with the wording, because if the base edition pre-order was just £70, playable at launch for all on the same day, included a level 70 boost and there was no messing around with the "early access" wording, people would have been way less likely to get upset as everyone knows that the prices of base games has been going steadily up. They then could have had extra options on top for lets say £75/£85 that they could have spun as the heroic/epic editions.

As I did my calculations/research with UK values, I'm unsure if the same results come up using other currencies.

omfg LOL here I am a returning player to retail, still played classic tbc/wotlk, I bought Dragonflight a week ago and seeing you get Dragonflight pre-ordering War Within hurts my soul real bad!
I bought the epic pre order and extremely happy with it. Saves me plenty of time grinding reputations.
I was very surprised I even got the heritage armor transmog inspite of the big warning that boosted characters are ineligible for heritage armor transmog .

To me the early access is really only impactful for those who farm professions hard to make gold. Having 3 days ahead of the masses would let you flood the market and rake in some cash early on. Since I never focused on that, it personally won't have much impact. So, it really comes down to do I want the mounts, pets, etc. Agree on the heroic vs epic. No reason to go with the heroic to save $5.
people have always made cash early on. but when you put it like that it means that the prices will be lower than normal. ppl still have full time jobs. This is really not that much different than the expansion launching on tuesday and you not being able to fully play until friday night and all weekend
It will have an impact on a world first race players as well. If you need to level up 4 characters you would want to start earliest possible. I don't remember if the beta access is only available to those who pre-ordered the Epic edition as well. But basically the AH will be fucked by the time everyone will only start leveling because of the bots that started 3 days ahead

I wish they would discount the epic edition when you have a 6/12 month active sub already.
I think you just get to keep the days and get consumed after you stop the automatic subs.
I will be getting the epic edition. I like "all the stuff" and tbh, for those who can't afford it now, start saving up your money. We have plenty of time to get the heroic/epic editions and if you really want it, it won't put such a huge dent in your bank account. Think of it as old-timey layaway! My parents and grandparents sung the praises of layaway when I was a kid. :)

Be warned if you buy the epic edition you CAN NOT get a refund later on. I did that mistake in shadowlands, preordered on day 1 and when all the systems got out in more detail i wanted a refund but they refused since it contains game time. As soon as you buy it the game time gets added and makes it impossible to refund, according to multiple tickets i made a short while after preordering Q.Q
I myself will probably buy the base game and then pay for the upgrade when it inevitably becomes on sale.
I'm more annoyed at the $90 price tag than the 3 days early access
I think the 3 days early access is something we will need to see how it plays out. If players can only level, profession grind, and thats about it, then I would think it could be OK as it would lessen the amount of people pouring into the starting zone at launch. However, let's be honest, someone will it max level (so unless you paid, no chance at world/realm first), and someone will capitalize on farming mats and set the prices in the AH. This will also make it impossible leveling in War Mode.
I think that is a really narrow view of the problem. Yes, being ahead of other players is one potential problem, sure. But the bigger problem is just the overall social aspect. A new expansion is a happening, similar to a big sporting event. Part of the whole experience is being there with all your friends (and the rest of the player base) and discover everything new at the same time.
It's like Kelani said in the video, imagine sittning on the side lines while everyone else runs into the dark portal on the release of The Burning Crusade. It's almost not even possible to imagine. And it's ironic how they talked about their experiences on release day back in 2004 on the stage at Blizzcon, at the same time as they remove that same experience going forward.

Since you asked for opinions on the 3 day EA thing; I've played other MMOs in the past with a similar system (FF14 Reborn in particular and I think SWTOR - that one was so long ago I can barely remember lol) and it really didn't affect anything. Like you said it mainly was an advantage for levelling since the zones were fairly empty but fewer players also meant that dungeons etc. weren't easy to run unless you had a group of friends playing so there really wasn't much of an advantage there. And those previous games both had longer Early Access windows than just the 3 days WoW is offering so I doubt it'll matter at all - beyond hopefully making for a more stable launch period.
I might have been more open to the boost preorder bit if I had not spent a LOT of time in the past few weeks with timewalking to get basically all my chars to 60+... and given we have another one starting with the 10.2 patch, and no doubt plenty more before the expansion, I do not see any chance of me not having all my characters to seventy. As to the renown jump... it would only be worth it to help my hunter get to 23 to train dragonkin, but warbands is going to unlock that regardless... so another moot point, imo.

I got the invite a few weeks before MoP was released. Sort of killed it for me. Fingers crossed it’s early so I can join in on testing from the near start.

@@FernandoMartinez-zh6jz I’d guess it is a staggered invite. This is a new thing though for the epic version and blizzard hasn’t released a beta invite plan for it. So I’m just guessing.
I hate that they are selling 3 daily early access and that will be the big selling point of the Epic Edition.
They know the eagerness WoW players have to get into the new expansion and I think many will give in to that, but no launch has been without its problems.
I'm more inclined to ignore the Epic and let the peeps who got the early access have the launch problems, while I wait for the normal launch, that might have gone through some small patched, bug fixes. The only thing I like that is added with the Epic Edition is the Deepdweller's Earthen Heartstone effect, I like thunder and lightning effects.
Bud to now already buy the new expansion, while we still have a year of Dragonflight left. We have currently no clue if they will keep up their quality until then.
So I will wait until a couple months before the launch of the new expansion, BlizzCon got me going, bud I will not jump in blindly.
Bud also, my weakness is the physical collector's edition, I love the artwork books.
Please say I am misunderstanding this; we pay for pre-order for an expansion we have no clue if it would be good. On top of that you have to do things in-game in order to receive the items you pay for? I really hope I am just confused and that Blizzard has not sunk to yet another new low.
I think early access is fine to me personally. it doesn't really bother me either way if I decide to buy the $90 one or the Base one. or anyone for that matter decide to go whatever route they like. I am pre-order and play at my own pace and not anyone else who decide to pre-order early access or not. they posted the prices and what you get for each one regardless how people feel about it. you either get it or not. it is what it is and just move on.
For a returning player, would you recommend to use the boost on Dragonflight or wait for The War Within?
speaking of the versions as a whole, yeah the Heroic Edition is a waste. the since the Epic Edition is the only version that comes with game time, you can minus $15 from the cost of the Epic Edition making it only $5 more than the Heroic Edition so why would you not just drop the extra $5 on it and call it good? and $5 for a battle pet, toy, hearthstone, +250 traders tender (compaired to the heroic version), beta access AND 3 days "early" access? that is one hell of a deal.
i think the early access can be good from a server stand point.. allowing some people in "early" (or forcing others to wait) will spread out the load on the servers in theory but yeah your concerns are extremely valid too

I want to address the giant elephant in the room that noone seems to be noticing.....What if you already own DF? Do you get a discount? Added goodies? What? At this point, I may not even purchase the xpac. I don't see why I should pay 89 dollars for a new xpac that has on it's coat tails an xpac I ALREADY own! Just doesn't seem fair to those of us who already own DF.
As a returning player the base is enough.. for 50$ i get dragonflight + the new expac that comes out in what.. 8 months? a character boost that i probably wont use or ill just throw on an alt for farming purposes. not a bad deal imo.
I bought the epic edition for the toy and hearthstone and the beta access. I don't care about being in 3 days early, since I work a lot and will probably not even be able to get in there on launch day. And I don't care about what other people do in WoW because I'm there for me. I am a solo WoW player and only do group content when necessary for quest completion so the MMO part of it could go away and I wouldn't miss it.

They need to just add the early access to all preorder tiers and then people wouldn't really be mad about it. Id imagine that they will end up doing this closer to release, but rake in those 90$ preorders first before they do.

The griffon is not usable in the old world. Hoping that Blizz throws the switch "on" for Dragonriding there, soon.
Supposedly, with the 10.2.5 patch we will be able to use Dynamic Flying in all the zones of Azeroth (where flying is allowed).

Unless they literally lock you out of professions entirely, including mats, you NEED to buy the $90 or be completely out of the running. You can’t compete with people who have 3 days to grind out the professions and you are completely out of any chance to get the title
you cant compete with ppl who play the game as a full time job anyway. every expansion, when you get off work, they're already max level, max professions. and farming heroic dung/pvp gear and rep before you hit the first level
Well if you look at. The 3 days early is just the bugs day. Like how many xpac launch been smooth. So the 3 days is just time to smooth out the bugs. Plus if the early access launch day is on a Tuesday and normal day is Friday. It means people might not need to take the days off
its not that bad. maybe im lucky but i never had major problems on release day. DF launch was very smooth. the worst problem i ever had going into a new expension once the gate opens was i couldnt see other online players. game did fine tho. i cant imagine the game being unplayable for 3 days,

Anyone that thinks they will actually get to play on launch day must be new to MMOs. Beta on launch day, folks! Although, the last release was better than average.
Absolutely buying the epic version for now. many players may not aware of this, you are not just getting a new mount that only exist one year later, but that mount comes with a new skill also, that new skill will only use one flying energy bar but lasting much longer and will allow you to travel at a even higher speed. That skill currently has some bugs which will not allow you to change direction during the speed boost but I expect a hot fix will take care of it.
Also, the 3 days early access is huge. The cost of the epic version is for basically 6 minus 1 token (30days playing time), I guarantee you will make more than 10 tokens of profit with that 3 days early access in either professions or simply farming in the new expansion.
aren't all mounts getting the flying benefits? there's no way blizzard would lock a movement speed bonus behind paid transactions
OK so it is a bug then? I was wondering why I was struggling to get through some of the hoops in the Storm riding races that you needed to complete for the quest that gives you the Stormriding set.
Have to say, I agree with the early access thing being kind of potentially divisive. Many can't afford $90, whether they want the goodies or not, and then you have a portion of the players resenting another portion from the get-go on the new expansion. I've already started saving up, but I'm going to have to see how long we have to take advantage of the pre-order perks, because I'mma have to save up for a _while_ to afford even the base edition. *_sigh_*

Early access is in other MMORPGs like FFXIV but it is part of the base preorder, not locked behind a $90 paywall. It's the charging folks extra for what a head start thing that really bothers me.
FFXIV is _way_ more predatory than WoW (and i love FFXIV), people always seem to be extra upset about Blizzard doing things that plenty of other studios do and it's pretty weird. Imagine if the WoW shop had new emotes and dances that were $8 like with FFXIV, people would lose their mind...

Outside this WoW unquestionably offers more "bang for the buck" than FFXIV.

So far all I've heard is "they'll get ahead on professions" but in DF the only recipes worth a dam were gated by content and literally everyone could make the basic stuff needed for leveling/just hit 70 as they leveled.
I think people are way more concerned about the theory of being "behind" then the actual realistic implications of it.
I paid $49.99 for pre-order of new expansion, came with a lvl 70 character boost.. which I created enhancement shaman, logged in and had 424 ilvl gear, bags, trinkets, rings, everything. and all dragon glyphs found. for $50 that wasn't too bad at all!
Since I'm not a world first racer, I don't at all mind the early access. I've never participated in the beta for a game even when I was given the option to since I don't want the story spoiled.
Like me, if you DIDNT have dragonflight at all, then $89 for 2 expacs, a mount, and 30 days game time is worth it for sure, and the boost is NICE. It was so confusing for me that I haven't even played my boosted character 🤣
Blizz really needs to work on marketing. The Epic bundle is not 90$/euros but that minus 1 month of subscription you would either way pay already...
tbh wish blizz gave a second option on how to use the game time. im fine with paying my 6 months but whenever i get the spare gametime i would honestly want to give it to a friend who cant afford things like game time or to even gift them over having the time sit there till i stop paying the subs etc
I think the worry over the 3 days is not really worth the bother. They opened the first raid 2 weeks after release this year mainly just to beat the Xmas rush, and other than the 1% of the player base doing mythic raiding, nobody missed a beat.
The actual impact on players will be minimal, and as you said maybe getting a big chunk of the player base in the game 3 days early will help the launch.
This is just the world we live in now.
I agree. nobody is getting any significant advantage by playing 3 days early. raids aren't going to be out yet, neither is M+ or anything like that. ppl can do their professions, but going by the dragonflight model, they're going to be stuck at like 50 skill without any good patterns for endgame.
The real fuckery is going to come from professions and the economy, unless you’re gated out of them entirely you’re gonna basically kill the market for anyone not in the early 3 days since they’ll be able to flood the market with everything people would normally use to grind out some gold early in an xpac
Because you're speaking from a general pov.
For example, you'll sit around while some of your friends and guildies enjoy new content. While youtube is showing off story and everything. While your favourite streamers are doing the same.
I wouldn't even be able to level in warmode if I wouldn't start early on, because I'd be camped by max level people from the very start. I'm usually so far ahead in leveling, I never really encounter anyone in warmode that would stand a chance and attack me and this means I can level 10% faster and not waste time, without any inconvenience.
I'll level alone this time (yay for MMOs, right?) because my friend can't afford it and I level in warmode and I like leveling fast.
In 8 hours or less I'll be max level, next couple days be done with hcs and M0. Have fun with your longer time for finding a group. By the time my poorer friends get on, they'll have to pug their shit, because I won't be sitting around doing nothing.
It also makes a horrible separation between the "rich" and the "poor". It will be the rich people leveling together and enjoying the game and the poor waiting around while others are already on it and even done for the week.
This is creating a problem for only one reason: greed.
If the effect would be minimal and Blizz thought nobody would really care, they wouldn't have added it. But the reality is, it's gonna sell a lot because of this. A lot of people will buy because they don't want to wait around while others play. And Blizz knows this. This hands down will make them sell epic edition like nothing else would.

Is this greed? I mean, sure, but every AAA game is released to make money, so I'm perplexed by your response. The way 95% of the players play the game, being "ahead" by 3 days means nothing. I'll log in on the "normal" time and be fine. People don't really level together that much anymore anyway, and given people people level at different speeds, by the time my friends are ready for heroic dungeons or some BGs, it'll be okay.
The boost is super worth it if you didn't already grind the renowns because it bumps em up and saved tons of grinding

So the enhanced boost not only gives the character you select a lot of renown, but it also gives a boost to renown for other level 70 characters you have? Care to explain it to me so I can fully understand this enhanced boost please?
Man this hurts my brain, I don’t even know if I want to get the epic edition or not, I’ll maybe buy it if the beta looks fun, but I’m leaning towards the heroic edition when I desire

NGL the 70 boost with the pre-order is almost worth it alone for the renown... Cause i been slackin hard on that and i played ALL of DF. I think i have one rep above 20 and that's cause the rep is handed out like candy, Valdrakken Accord.
I think the 3 days early access is splitting the community/guildes/friend groups in halfe and that is a bad thing. in a pure singel player game like Starfield or hogwarths the 3 day is ok but if seen like it was in D4, because i am not that big of an Diablo fan i only bought the edition without the early accesses but 2 of my friends did and in the first time we didnt play tohether because they were 3 days ahead.
Any goodwill Blizzard has built up throughout Dragonflight, announcing Classic+*, doing Warbands, etc was nuked in 1 move with Early Access. We already pay $15/mo AND a $40 expansion every 2 years. The "Server load" argument is bullshit - that load spreads out within the first hour of every launch, and I've been a part of every launch since Cata. They don't need 3 days for it. And those first 48-72hr of any expansion are the most magical time of any expansion where everyone is new to the region, nobody has an ego yet, and everyone is discovering what there is to do. Locking people out of those first 72hr via a Paywall is absolutely inexcusable in a game I've already paid $3k for over the years. But I guess that's not good enough for them. The fact that there are apologists for this is appalling to me.
Ppl b*ching about a mere 3 day head start. As if all are top tier players. Nothing will happen in 3 days for you. I came pretty late in most patches and still was fully geared and had Cutting edge before other ppl.
For me, the most expensive one seems to be the best value to me, only because of the mount and pet. I didn't realize it came with 30 days of game time, so that is sort of a discount, I guess. As for three days early access, I don't care too much about that personally, as I never speed run my first toon. I like to take my time and read every quest, as I am one who enjoys the story and exploring.
