This is kinda blatantly false, as Spector is a bit Disney fan. He made a blog post about his experiences and he talked about Epic Mickey and its conception. It’s a bit different than you described, since he actually pitched to Disney in the first place. They asked if he wanted to use Mickey and he was immediately on board. He was asking for Ducktales or something, didn’t expect to be allowed to use the big guy himself. That head of Disney interactive was a cool guy, since apparently a lot of the ppl he was pitching to started using their cell phones. Later on they wanted to make Epic Donald but Disney passed on it
Demo came out and game actually looks good so far. There was a concern things would be too bright when the og was more dark like but seems they are fixing it. Excited for when it comes out.

Something I just remembered that I think should’ve been in the iceberg is the infamous Epilogue glitch in EM2. Basically, throughout the game in the pause menu, there’s text at the bottom saying “Episode 1,2,3” depending on how many bosses you’ve defeated. Once you beat the game, it’ll say “Epilogue: Continue to explore Wasteland” However, sometimes it will say “Epilogue: Activate the turnstiles to open the way forward”, or something along those lines.This was speculated for years as to what it meant, until one of the games developers mentioned on Reddit that it was a glitch that they weren’t able to patch, because by the time they found it, the game was being mass produced. So in the end, it was either for scrapped content or was just a test for something.
The text appeared when you follow Prescott in ep 2 and you have to spin the wheel to get to this house and decide if you go through the projector inside the house or on top on the house to get to the battlefield or inside prescott's creation to fight the canon tower thing
I think the fact that fans are dissecting this game’s code and pulling out as much information as they can get their hands on says something. Still, hopefully someone in Disney might bring it back.
it would have been so cool to see how the gameplay improves as time passed and game makers got better and more creative, it really sucks that they ended it so soon because it had so much potential with how deep everything within the game goes, it forces you to think in other ways to solve the puzzles plus it has one of the coolest storylines of any game i’ve ever seen because of how completely opposite it is from the mickey that everyone was used to, and it also dug so deep into disneys history with the projector levels, truly one of the most heartbreaking things that has ever happened
In my opinion the "Dead men tell no tales" line from Gus is meant to be triggered by entering rooms in which you're not supposed to be in and could only glitch/freecam to, like the "Wandering is a terrible sin" cardboard cutout in Bendy
What’s interesting is that the Epic Mickey series is linked to so many other games. Warren Spector had previously worked on System Shock, Deus Ex, and even Half-Life 3 before it was cancelled and he moved on to Epic Mickey. The whole idea kind of stemmed from Kingdom Hearts 7-8 years earlier as Disney wanted Mickey to have his own dedicated game. Although the series was canceled some of its ideas would carry on to Disney Infinity, before that was cancelled to. The animatronics in FNAF, the Ink in Bendy and the Ink Machine, the old cartoon mechanics in Cuphead. Epic Mickey truly did predict these things years ahead. Fingers crossed 🤞 we get Epic Mickey 3 someday.
Despite the fact that we never got the hero and scrapper Mickey concept, the idea of Mickey changing depending on his choices actually does occur; the more thinner you use, and floating thinner droplets become much more plentiful and frequent, while if you use mostly paint, those droplets are actually completely gone. A small and subtle change for sure, but it’s one of my favourite details.
@@evonshki What would be “epic” is if they could configure it so you don’t have to necessarily play it sequentially. There are some parts of the game I would love to just jump to and start playing.
I hope this remake fixes all the gameplay problems the first game had on the Wii. I had a lot of trouble 100% the game, because of the projector screens not allowing you to enter back to a certain area if you missed a collectible. Once you miss one, you can’t go back to get it back. I also hope that they fix the file select screen. I wish you could copy files to a new file. I really never liked the auto-save feature. Hopefully you can manually save the game & make a auto-save toggle in the Options Menu. I will say that the graphics look gorgeous! 🤩
@@thundergodmeech Yeah, I think it took three times through the game to get all the collectibles, but a lot of that was because of whether you chose the paint or thinner path. I wouldn’t say that was a gameplay problem though. The biggest problem was the camera. I think that’s what most people would love to see fixed. I don’t know how many enemies I fought where I couldn’t turn around to be able to actually see them.
Epic Mickey will always be something I’ll hold near and dear to me. It was the first game I ever played by myself while my dad watched (it was always the other way around). I think its such an amazing story, so for the fact that it’s getting a switch reboot makes my inner child a bit happier
In regards to the guardians (tints and turps), it’s my head cannon that these are toons that died, as in they were thinned, or somehow got to the toon world without a heart, or any of the other few ways a toon can truly die. My main reason for this is that it could explain why certain guardians follow Mickey, they love Mickey for different reasons, the Tints like Mickey follow Mickey because they like him for his helpful, kind, and happy nature, meanwhile the Turps follow him because they like his mischievous, curious, and trouble making habits. The Guardians being dead Toons could also explain why a guardian follows Gilda (the lady who challenges you to do those racing mini-games) because that guardian is a deceased loved one of Gilda I know there’s not much evidence to this but it’s at least my personal head cannon.
It makes a lot of sense since we see toons being "killed" in the thinner disaster. Maybe they're called spirits because they're literally toons spirits
Honestly as an artist and architecture lover, the backgrounds and world designs in this game were always my faves, I could always just sit and wander thru mean street thinking what it would be like seeing those twisty inert buildings irl.
It honestly would've been so cool, I love the shadow Mickey and monster Oswald are the best concept designs, it may have been hated at first, but I think over time it would be pretty cool,
Man I personally love everything about this game; the atmosphere is fantastically unique, the music is irreplaceable, and the gameplay mechanics make this one of the most engaging and replayable games I’ve ever played. To me, this game would’ve been perfect… if it wasn’t for one single problem. If you’ve played this game, then you know exactly what this single problem is. If you don’t know, it’s in the first moments of the video.

as someone who has now fallen into the epic mickey hole almost a decade after the game was released because of my love of oswald, this was genuinely so nice to watch
I remember as a kid playing Epic Mickey 2 and constantly trying to open the door to Mickey Junk Mountain in OsTown. I mean they literally said in the game it leads there. I also remember constantly trying to get into Petetronic’s Club 13 because I thought there was treasure in there. I would also try to find ways to get back to Oswald’s Castle because I thought I could reactivate the TV to get back to Mickey’s house.
I do know that when you head to Ostown, one of the gremlins mentions that the entrance to Mickey Junk Mountain was sealed off because of the quakes and how dangerous it was to go there.
59:15 fun fact, Oswald and (I think) Ortensia both appear on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. They’re on the screen to the right of the amusement park room. They walk by right as the vehicles enter the room.

I’d like to note that originally with Clocktower boss, if you painted in his arms, instead of repainting his face, the clocktower’s face would open to a room where Mickey would destroy a record player to stop the music, hence the “Stop The Music” pin that’s given if Mickey redeems him. Also unused concept art shows that the Clocktower was supposed to appear from the ceiling. Petetronic originally had three tanks and was red. The Mad Doctor originally wore his cloak from his first appearance but they worried people would confuse him with the original Blot. There was meant to be the Blot from the comics in the game and he was meant to be a reoccurring thief, but he was scrapped because it became too confusing on whether characters were talking about the thief or the stormblot. Unused concept art shows that the Slobber could originally charge at Mickey. There’s various different ideas for what the bunny children would look like. There was a short lived idea for Gus to be a second playable character. Minnie was supposed to physically appear in the game. The game was meant to be similar to a game made many years later (Detroit Become Human) but was changed because of the Wii having low memory. There’s an early Skull Rock design. There was meant to be an area involving a thinner waterfall and much more.
@@gianni50725 I haven't played Detroit become human but I think it's that the game and characters would react to your choices. In the final game the most that would happen was the music changes and mickey gets more or less drippy depending on if you used paint or thinner more, but I think the world and characters were meant to change as well, meaning mickeys choices had a much bigger effect on wasteland
It's so great that Epic Mickey is returning as a remake and I became so happy to know he's coming! Since is a remake the concept of hero, scrapper or wastelander Mickey could be implemented as a huge change to the game, it could even show Mickey's persona changing through cutscenes and gameplay. An example, when Mickey goes meet Mirabella for the first time, when she asks if he remembers her, if you got through the scrapper path he would mock her and say something like 'As if you had enough time to be remembered by anyone on your golden days, old lady.' And in gameplay, Mickey maybe could make us the player make choices without any doubt, like when the game gives us a choice to save an gremlin or get tickets, Mickey refuses to do a certain option depending on the path, even if we the players, want to. Unfortunatly I don't think they're going to add that, but it would be an great concept! Loved the vid!
Came back to this video after the rebrushed announcement and one thing I think worth mentioning is Gus' out of bounds "Dead Men Tell No Tales" has a much more logical explanation now. I saw another video the other day called "Free-Camera Discoveries in Epic Mickey" by Fungus Nitrogen that showcases this Gus secret but there are additional lines of dialogue referencing that originally Mickey and Gus would need a password to open the door, this ended up getting scrapped but considering Gus' "Worked as promised. Let's head through." line it's safe to assume that "Dead Men Tell No Tales" was meant to be the password that would open the door originally. Also I feel like "Black Pete" might have been the name for the scrapped Pirate Pete you mentioned earlier in the iceberg.
I wish that someday they will totally remake Epic Mikey into a reboot and go for a more dark themed adventure like the original pitch. I would love that!
The storm blot that Abe talks about in EM2 is the blot that you fight at the end of the game. Abe mentions that when mickey fought the blot atop mickeyjunk mountain, he did not know that it was not the real blot.

I could get a lot of that info wrong but anyway at one point I think they asked if there were any cool secrets in the game and he said “yeah we like to hide a basketball court in all the epic Mickey games” and I swear after I watched that I made sure to look for one every time I played it. Just so you know the phantom blot is not a character just made for epic mickey. He was a old archenemy of mickey mouse and appeared in the original daily comic strips back in 1939. He also apears in the house of mouse.
This video was so much to watch! Epic Mickey became one of my fave game series! I loved the details within the wasteland of whats not around in cartoons or attractions anymore. It's a fun series to play! I wish there was a Epic Mickey three. A lot of original concepts that were for the first two games could've been a fun concepts for Epic Mickey three, have it be more grand and no pun intended...epic!

Someday I'll playthrough the original Epic Mickey with the special Epic Mickey Paint Brush Nunchuck. Because my Stepdad was the main person who actually played and beat Epic Mickey, it'll feel like an end to another nostalgic journey. Thank you for the Iceberg video. i remember once i went to the disney store as a kid after they released the oswald plushie (i think it released around 2011?) and when i went to go buy it the cast member who was helping me check out told me about the plans for an epic mickey-themed disney park ride and i remember being sososo excited. i had never heard anything else of it until you brought it up here, i started to think i only imagined it lol

I genuinely don't understand why Epic Mickey 2 sold poorly considering all the people who very clearly still love the franchise. The story was amazing and the gameplay was phenomenal as well. It's a shame we'll probably never see the third game, since it was rumored to take place outside of Wasteland which would've been a fantastic way to end the series.

1:04:00 I believe Oswald does remember his time under universal up to his replacement by Oswald Rabbit. The toy he's cleaning in game, and the shot you show while talking about this point, prove that he was able to get some post-Walt merchandise of himself. Add that with the fact that his first color appearance in The King of Jazz in 1930 had him wearing the same blue shorts he now wears even though Walt wanted him in red, I feel would point towards him knowing and remembering those rough years before Wasteland (head canon Walt's Land when first created). I've looked into the history far too much...

I love this game so much. I wish it could've reached it full potential with a lot of what was scrapped before it could make it into the final game, so it wasn't as good as it could've been, but the final product is still filled to the brim with so much creative ideas, so much passion, and still one of the best atmospheres in all of gaming where it manages to feel really eerie and creepy. The modding community for this game really needs to start growing more because if we could get a restored content mod, I and many others would be so happy.

Just wanted to point out that “topolino” (which means “small mouse” in italian) is actually the name of Mickey here in Italy. The game actually has the subtitle “la leggendaria sfida di topolino” (Mickey’s legendary challenge) since just “Mickey” wouldn’t have been recognizable, so maybe the entry could have also referred to that!
Epic Mickey, was my entire childhood I fell in love with the game especially and it’s long and forgotten characters. That have found new light thanks to the game.. I fell in love with Oswald to the point I prefer him over Mickey.. I hope one day they either make a television show or bring back the game. Cause there is a fanbase for it. Especially with the motion controls on the switch now.. They should remaster the games and port them onto the switch… which would be amazing.. Like if Disney ever decides to port Epic Mickey to the switch. And the sells are good maybe that will give them the note “Hey, maybe we should continue this franchise?”
Fun fact, the differences in Mickey's appearance are somewhat salvaged in the final game. The inkdrops that float away from Mickey vary in quantity depending on Mickey's current morality. He drips less if he acts like Modern Mickey, and drips more if he acts like a lil sh*t. It's hard to see this if you're aiming for a certain morality all game, but it's obviously more noticebale if you switch back and forth between painting and thinning like my indecisive ass does.

Maybe "Black Pete" was going to be an ally to Mickey and Oswald. Hearing the name makes me think of the phrase "black sheep" and it might represent that he's not mischievous like the other Pete variants. That would also explain why his outro is so upbeat.

Despite the fact that we never got the hero and scrapper Mickey concept, the idea of Mickey changing depending on his choices actually does occur; the more thinner you use, and floating thinner droplets become much more plentiful and frequent, while if you use mostly paint, those droplets are actually completely gone.
A small and subtle change for sure, but it’s one of my favourite details.

I hope this remake fixes all the gameplay problems the first game had on the Wii. I had a lot of trouble 100% the game, because of the projector screens not allowing you to enter back to a certain area if you missed a collectible. Once you miss one, you can’t go back to get it back. I also hope that they fix the file select screen. I wish you could copy files to a new file. I really never liked the auto-save feature. Hopefully you can manually save the game & make a auto-save toggle in the Options Menu. I will say that the graphics look gorgeous! 🤩
@@thundergodmeech Yeah, I think it took three times through the game to get all the collectibles, but a lot of that was because of whether you chose the paint or thinner path. I wouldn’t say that was a gameplay problem though. The biggest problem was the camera. I think that’s what most people would love to see fixed. I don’t know how many enemies I fought where I couldn’t turn around to be able to actually see them.
Epic Mickey will always be something I’ll hold near and dear to me. It was the first game I ever played by myself while my dad watched (it was always the other way around). I think its such an amazing story, so for the fact that it’s getting a switch reboot makes my inner child a bit happier

In regards to the guardians (tints and turps), it’s my head cannon that these are toons that died, as in they were thinned, or somehow got to the toon world without a heart, or any of the other few ways a toon can truly die. My main reason for this is that it could explain why certain guardians follow Mickey, they love Mickey for different reasons, the Tints like Mickey follow Mickey because they like him for his helpful, kind, and happy nature, meanwhile the Turps follow him because they like his mischievous, curious, and trouble making habits. The Guardians being dead Toons could also explain why a guardian follows Gilda (the lady who challenges you to do those racing mini-games) because that guardian is a deceased loved one of Gilda
I know there’s not much evidence to this but it’s at least my personal head cannon.
It makes a lot of sense since we see toons being "killed" in the thinner disaster. Maybe they're called spirits because they're literally toons spirits

Honestly as an artist and architecture lover, the backgrounds and world designs in this game were always my faves, I could always just sit and wander thru mean street thinking what it would be like seeing those twisty inert buildings irl.

as someone who has now fallen into the epic mickey hole almost a decade after the game was released because of my love of oswald, this was genuinely so nice to watch
I remember as a kid playing Epic Mickey 2 and constantly trying to open the door to Mickey Junk Mountain in OsTown. I mean they literally said in the game it leads there. I also remember constantly trying to get into Petetronic’s Club 13 because I thought there was treasure in there. I would also try to find ways to get back to Oswald’s Castle because I thought I could reactivate the TV to get back to Mickey’s house.
I do know that when you head to Ostown, one of the gremlins mentions that the entrance to Mickey Junk Mountain was sealed off because of the quakes and how dangerous it was to go there.

I’d like to note that originally with Clocktower boss, if you painted in his arms, instead of repainting his face, the clocktower’s face would open to a room where Mickey would destroy a record player to stop the music, hence the “Stop The Music” pin that’s given if Mickey redeems him. Also unused concept art shows that the Clocktower was supposed to appear from the ceiling. Petetronic originally had three tanks and was red. The Mad Doctor originally wore his cloak from his first appearance but they worried people would confuse him with the original Blot. There was meant to be the Blot from the comics in the game and he was meant to be a reoccurring thief, but he was scrapped because it became too confusing on whether characters were talking about the thief or the stormblot. Unused concept art shows that the Slobber could originally charge at Mickey. There’s various different ideas for what the bunny children would look like. There was a short lived idea for Gus to be a second playable character. Minnie was supposed to physically appear in the game. The game was meant to be similar to a game made many years later (Detroit Become Human) but was changed because of the Wii having low memory. There’s an early Skull Rock design. There was meant to be an area involving a thinner waterfall and much more.

In the final game the most that would happen was the music changes and mickey gets more or less drippy depending on if you used paint or thinner more, but I think the world and characters were meant to change as well, meaning mickeys choices had a much bigger effect on wasteland
It's so great that Epic Mickey is returning as a remake and I became so happy to know he's coming! Since is a remake the concept of hero, scrapper or wastelander Mickey could be implemented as a huge change to the game, it could even show Mickey's persona changing through cutscenes and gameplay.
An example, when Mickey goes meet Mirabella for the first time, when she asks if he remembers her, if you got through the scrapper path he would mock her and say something like 'As if you had enough time to be remembered by anyone on your golden days, old lady.'
And in gameplay, Mickey maybe could make us the player make choices without any doubt, like when the game gives us a choice to save an gremlin or get tickets, Mickey refuses to do a certain option depending on the path, even if we the players, want to.
Unfortunatly I don't think they're going to add that, but it would be an great concept! Loved the vid!
10 months late, but found out that "Black Pete" is just the internal (probably early) name for Big Bad Pete. His internal filenames call him that.

Came back to this video after the rebrushed announcement and one thing I think worth mentioning is Gus' out of bounds "Dead Men Tell No Tales" has a much more logical explanation now. I saw another video the other day called "Free-Camera Discoveries in Epic Mickey" by Fungus Nitrogen that showcases this Gus secret but there are additional lines of dialogue referencing that originally Mickey and Gus would need a password to open the door, this ended up getting scrapped but considering Gus' "Worked as promised. Let's head through." line it's safe to assume that "Dead Men Tell No Tales" was meant to be the password that would open the door originally.
Also I feel like "Black Pete" might have been the name for the scrapped Pirate Pete you mentioned earlier in the iceberg.
I wish that someday they will totally remake Epic Mikey into a reboot and go for a more dark themed adventure like the original pitch.

The storm blot that Abe talks about in EM2 is the blot that you fight at the end of the game. Abe mentions that when mickey fought the blot atop mickeyjunk mountain, he did not know that it was not the real blot.

Just so you know the phantom blot is not a character just made for epic mickey. He was a old archenemy of mickey mouse and appeared in the original daily comic strips back in 1939. He also apears in the house of mouse.

This video was so much to watch! Epic Mickey became one of my fave game series! I loved the details within the wasteland of whats not around in cartoons or attractions anymore. It's a fun series to play! I wish there was a Epic Mickey three. A lot of original concepts that were for the first two games could've been a fun concepts for Epic Mickey three, have it be more grand and no pun intended...epic!

I genuinely don't understand why Epic Mickey 2 sold poorly considering all the people who very clearly still love the franchise. The story was amazing and the gameplay was phenomenal as well. It's a shame we'll probably never see the third game, since it was rumored to take place outside of Wasteland which would've been a fantastic way to end the series.

The toy he's cleaning in game, and the shot you show while talking about this point, prove that he was able to get some post-Walt merchandise of himself. Add that with the fact that his first color appearance in The King of Jazz in 1930 had him wearing the same blue shorts he now wears even though Walt wanted him in red, I feel would point towards him knowing and remembering those rough years before Wasteland (head canon Walt's Land when first created). I've looked into the history far too much...

I love this game so much. I wish it could've reached it full potential with a lot of what was scrapped before it could make it into the final game, so it wasn't as good as it could've been, but the final product is still filled to the brim with so much creative ideas, so much passion, and still one of the best atmospheres in all of gaming where it manages to feel really eerie and creepy. The modding community for this game really needs to start growing more because if we could get a restored content mod, I and many others would be so happy.

Just wanted to point out that “topolino” (which means “small mouse” in italian) is actually the name of Mickey here in Italy. The game actually has the subtitle “la leggendaria sfida di topolino” (Mickey’s legendary challenge) since just “Mickey” wouldn’t have been recognizable, so maybe the entry could have also referred to that!

Fun fact, the differences in Mickey's appearance are somewhat salvaged in the final game. The inkdrops that float away from Mickey vary in quantity depending on Mickey's current morality. He drips less if he acts like Modern Mickey, and drips more if he acts like a lil sh*t.
It's hard to see this if you're aiming for a certain morality all game, but it's obviously more noticebale if you switch back and forth between painting and thinning like my indecisive ass does.

Maybe "Black Pete" was going to be an ally to Mickey and Oswald. Hearing the name makes me think of the phrase "black sheep" and it might represent that he's not mischievous like the other Pete variants. That would also explain why his outro is so upbeat.

THQ NORDIC is such a massive W with all the Rebrushed/Rehydrated remasters of every child hood game and seeing that they’re doing this for epic Mickey I mean it would give them a chance to make a solid sequel to the second game

Just to add to the epic Donald section, Pat Block was actually a disney comic artist who actually drew Ducktale comics back in the day
