Today we go head to head with 2 Ludwig brass snare drums: The Ludwig Super Brass vs The Ludwig Brass Acrolite. Both drums are the same size, both are brass shells, both have the same hoops and snare wires. The lug casings are similar but slightly different with the Super Brass having Ludwig's Imperial style lug casing while the Brass Acrolite has the Ludwig Twin style casing. The throw off's are different as well with the Super Brass having the P88 throw off and the Brass Acrolite having the Millenium throw off. Really the main difference between the 2 drums is the shell thickness and finish: the Super Brass is a 1.2mm seamless brass shell with a lacquered finish while the Brass Acrolite is a 1mm seamless brass shell with a brushed finish.

Acrolite has more ringing and open sound. Super brass for me is more focused and has much more powerful low end

Was not mentioned is the Imperial lugs have those rubber gaskets that rob your resonance vrs the Acrolite lugs do not have the rubber gaskets behind the lugs.

You guys using in ears? The super brass is clearly more resonant with a thicker note overall. Both nice drums but honestly not even close in terms of tone and that from an objective point of view. You are getting more shell out of the Super and it sounds like the more expensive drum. Preference is up to the user. Absolutely excellent demo here...well done fellas

Without looking at what was being played, I couldn't pick a favourite. I own the Acro Brass and have received many compliments on the sound!

Super brass easily for me it is brighter and cuts more the acro to me just sounds a bit cheaper for lack of a nicer way of putting it.

Gotta give the win to the Acrolite, has a more dry focused sound to my ears anyway.

Subtleties notwithstanding, they sound pretty close.
