    Wow! As a professional vocalist of 30 years, I LOVE most of Al Bowlly's songs. But this one in particular, is just beautiful sung as a ballad, especially including the beginning verse..."As we eye the blue horizon's bend, earth and sky appear to meet and end..."

    This was recorded on December 2, 1937, Al's first song after his throat surgery. Rip to the greatest musician, Al Bowlly :)

    I love this song and later versions of are so great. Some of the female vocalists and their arrangements just bring tears to your heart. Oh so beautiful.

    Best singer that ever lived (in my opinion)

    I got to know this song with The Carpenters, last track from their album 'Horizon', then with The Andrew Sister and now, thanks to my "tamed algorythms" with Al Bowlly. Thanks for sharing.

    Anyone else notice that almost all of Al Bowley’s songs only have him singing for like a minute and then the rest is instrumental

    • @Matt78collector
      @Matt78collector ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's how it worked during the 20s-40s

      Al and so many others were often billed as 'With vocal refine' the singer was if you like - a lead supporting artist' - To some degree perhaps this is why Al is more sort after and respected as an artist now than he was in his own time - it was the dance band and not the singer that where the headline act -

      It's not the 1950s yet.

    Does Al Bowlly actually conduct the orchestra?

    • @Matt78collector
      @Matt78collector ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, he has his own orchestra during late 1937 to mid 1938

      He never conducted the orchestra, but was directed by Leonard Joy in New York.

      but he actually started his own band back in England 1937, with his brother Mish Bowlly called "Al Bowlly’s Radio City Rhythm Makers". No audio or recording has been found though, only newspaper articles.
