      Appreciate that man, I think the channel is doing okay. I dont promote it much. I like seeing it “found” probably not the best way to grow lol. But we are gaining a few subscribers a week.

    Having done this swap, I'd suggest an external oil cooler if you plan to run A/C. With no condenser in front of the radiator you can get away with the smaller oil heater. Lots of other little details I've learned from experience but that said I'm glad someone else is sharing the knowledge on the swap because the more doing the swap will help bring more aftermarket support for parts. While it can be done without buying a swap kit the centering kit really did improve the handling of my car.

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wont be running a/c in my swap.
      Itll be going in my mk2 which is a 12v now. I have a civic thick aluminum rad with a high power mishimoto 11” fan. I beat on it regularly and oil temps stay under 214.

      All depends on what i get.
      My mk2 is getting the 3.6 and has an mk3 harness in it now, but i dont want to cut it up.

I can't find a 3.2 engine anywhere atm but there's a Passat in my local yard with the 3.6 in it, I just don't know how hard it is to fit the high pressure fuel injection (TFSI) into a mk2 but I've heard its a lot more work....

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the mk3 rear subframe/kframe control arms and mount kit.
      The front crossmember you must use a corrado/b3 or b4 crossmember then that will allow you to use the mk3 corrado/b3 b4 front mount
      Or you can use the oem mk2 front crossmember with an older “eip” type solid adapter/conversion mount that bolts right up to a vr6.
      Ill have a video out in the coming weeks on the full subframe/crossmember conversion

    The part number for the rear bracket states automatic transmission. I plan on using an 02J. I won’t run into any issues using that mount, will I? I’m gathering my parts so I can rip the motor out and install hopefully in the same day. Thanks for all the info!!

      Itll fit no problem only difference is the letter at the end the 5 spd is a j instead of a k
      Believe the auto has heat shielding on it is the only difference.

      Can be done, just immensely more work.
      Youd have to run an abs system which you car doesnt have. Custom mounts,axles, shifter.
      Much more than that as well.

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As wiring goes yes, as ease of the swap no.
      6 spds require custom mount/axles as well.
      Best bet is for a vr 02a/02j 5spd
      Plenty strong, cheap, easy to get parts.
      You can use a 6spd from a 24v vr mk4 which were only made for a few years.
      Were as the 5spds were made from 92-02 in the usa in tons of cars

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Easiest way is an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator that turns the retun style into a dead head system. I know areomotive makes one. Set base pressure to oe spec(not certain what it is off hand)
      And then just a decent intank pump to keep supply to it.

    • @ectmotorsports

      Awesome thanks for the suggestion, and would this still use the stock injectors with the direct injection still?

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes thats how to keep it oem as possible
      To run port injection youd need a custom manifold and standalone ecu

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on whats in it now
      If its a 24v its easy
      If a 1.8t you need an 02j vr6 trans or 02m and a vr6 engine bracket thats it drops right in an mk4

    • @MrWoowootila
      @MrWoowootila 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmithsEuro i have a 12v vr6 with a 02j trans. What will be needed for that? I like your approach of going OEM for the build. If I could buy easily available parts and make a pretty cheap 300hp mk4 GTI, that would be a fun project. I can imagine you can buy a wrecked Passat with the 3.6 pretty cheap. It makes more sense than putting 10k in mods, that other guys do, where it would have been cheaper to start with a faster car.

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are good to go then, just bolt the engine mount on it and the trans.

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Has to be a vr6 trans (4cyl wont fit)
      I stay with the 5spd transmissions more plentiful and bolts in to an mk3 using all oem parts since they came in the.
      Mk3 is 02a direct fit (best option)
      Mk4 has 02j require 100mm axle cups
      Mk4 trans has different gear ratios
      Some people like 6spds but they are expensive and require custom mounts/axles/expensive clutch.

    Do you need to do the same mods to a 3.2 swap in a mk3? What about the exhaust manifold?

    • @SmithsEuro
      @SmithsEuro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly not certain it should be the same mods but probably without needing the spacer.
      The exhaust manifolds, i always retain the oem manifolds that bolts to the head. I port them out and then make my own downpipes.
      Best way is to cut the flanges off the oem exhaust and re use them.
