  • Did you know you can bolt a 4G63 engine into your Mighty Max using Mighty Max engine mounts?! It's true! But only if you didn't throw yours away like I did. And also only if you have the right 4G63 with all the necessary holes in the block. Unlike me.
    SO! If you're like me, this video will walk you through making polyurethane mounts, starting only with a polyurethane bar end.

    Take the nominal size (M10 = 10mm) subtract the thread pitch (-1.25mm). 10-1.25 = 8.75mm, this is the drill bit size for the hole. A little larger is OK, smaller is not.
    Easy trick to find the right drill for a metric bolt :)

      A set of metric drill bits are cheap enough to keep with your metric taps. And will save enough time, hassle and errors converting to inches every time you need to tap a hole. I do this with my Imperial taps because the maths is trickier

    A 4g64 mighty max pan has a flat bottom, not sure if that helps at this point. The AWD/FWD pan has that goofy slant. You'd need the matching pickup and to add the turbo drain fitting (people typically convert to -10AN anyway). This is true for 6 bolts, not sure it carries over to 7 bolts as well. There are also other oil filter housings from other model vehicles that give options on filter placement. The mighty max housing points the filter straight outward toward the frame rail, could be better or worse. That bolt in the way of the driver's side mount is the balance shaft alignment inspection hole. If you delete balance shafts you could have deleted that bolt, just put some RTV around it. No reason not to keep it though. The moveable card stock bushing template idea is brilliant, I'm using that when I replace my solid mounts with bushing mounts! Love the project, love the channel, glad you're back.

    Narrowing a frame creates a whole world of problems when trying to use factory parts. The bright side is now you are the engineer who gets to determine where the accessories go. If it were my project, I would build all new brackets placing things were they fit best and give maximum maintenance access. Since you are building a small truck, look at using smaller parts like the compressor, power steering and alternator from other makes and models, since you are making the brackets, they will fit where you want them and because the brand is different doesn't mean they won't work. A walk through a "You Pull it" place can give you lots of workable ideas. Can you relocate the turbo, it would sure make for cleaner plumbing. Look forward to more great videos.

    I used to be a Mitsubishi mechanic late 90's, and I have to say you are one brave sob. That is an interference engine and moving that engine around without a timing belt is just asking for a cam to fall off a lobe and rotate. Then you have valves contacting pistons. I've seen it happen a 1000 times with people just changing the belt. Ruined heads for everyone.

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Brave? Maybe. Or possibly just clueless and I’ll be re-rebuilding this engine soon. 😳

      Thank you, Phillip! These mounts are very replaceable, which is actually the main reason I switched away from factory mounts. I found that I can no longer get Mitsubishi made mounts. Move the AC compressor. Stock brackets are cast Iron and weigh a ton. Electric AC is also an option.

    The bolt holes are on your block for the truck mounts. The two bolts on a vertical line are the 2 the truck uses stock.

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! I have since learned that. That’s so strange to me. When slamming on the brakes, the inertia of the engine is so great. Two pair of vertically positioned bolts doesn’t seem adequate to me.
      The designers must’ve considered the trans mount as the main forward/rearward limiter.
      Thank you my friend. 🙏

  • @andrebartels1690

    22:35 by the looks of the shavings I'd say the crank casing is made of cast iron, not cast steel. Since this is quite brittle, I'd take a closer look at the other motor mount threads, if there is a threaded insert glued in for additional strength. If that's the case, I'd replicate that. The manufacturer of the engine knows what they're doing. You don't want your threads come out with the bolt when you floor the pedal. That would make for a medium catastrophe.

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @tommykj2
      @tommykj2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GarageFab I would say the poly mounts are a happy medium between solid and rubber mounts. I'm curious if the difference between a lifted truck and a bagged truck would make any difference on the vibration. I have 10"s of rubber between the rim and the ground. I'm wondering if that helps dampen the overall vibration. I look forward to seeing the results you get.

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Air suspension absorbs a lot more road vibration than typical springs. But your fat tires will absorb far more than my low profile tires.
