Brilliant teaching. Golf instruction is finally waking up. Great players can focus primarily on the body pivot. Weekend golfers need Andrew’s guidance. It has helped me a great deal and I’ve gained consistency.
Holy moly - my hands are opposite 😱😱😱. I really am strugling thoug im not spinning any more - keeping my back to the target - small weight transfer - no chicken wing - but im still strugling😢. Been watching all your videos at least twice - some again and again. THIS COULD BE MY MISSING LINK - cannot wait to go and change to left karate hand under. Im very exited about this. Thx so very much Andrew.
You’re not as far off as you think! Most golfers unfortunately don’t understand how their forearms control the rotation of the club face! Tying your arms to your body and spinning will only leave the club face open! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Strangely enough I figured this exact movement out a few weeks ago. It is great to have the reinforcement of this video. It does exactly what you say in that it turns your 9 in to an 8 iron and so on. I have been playing for 30 years and I wished there had been instruction like this back then. Awesome content.
Three times watched. Love this. I am a technical golfer and thus these videos strike a chord. Did the supination and pronation while watching and pausing. Now off to the range to work this, slinging and some bunker play based on two of your videos. Thank You!
OK, worked the supination yesterday, and realized I was prior half-ass supinating. Worked to fully supinate and had better distance and better contact with less effort -- continuous improvement. Thank You!
Coach- believe it or not, I have never heard or understood this before. I’m really excited to get out and incorporate this into my swing. I’ve learned a lot from you already, and this seems like such great common sense advice. Thank you! I’ll let you know how it goes!
Amazing information, many thank you Andrew. Combining these drills with your others for the "no body turn" strike of the ball and using the wrists and arms starts to make far better sense than I've experienced in many, many years! I'm 74, nearer 75!, just getting back into the game after 3+ years of illness including quadruple heart bypass and now taking your drills to the range here near Brighton UK (Seaford GC , Blatchington) - and its starting to make real sense as my body dynamics are somewhat limited! Your tutoring is by far the best on YT, especially the reasoning that you explain so easily! Such a pity you are no longer in the Uk as I would be booking a lesson for sure!! Thanks once again, KR John 😊
Wow , great video. I've always been told less handsy more body , so when i tried this, i wasn't expecting much , but the opposite has happened. I also used the arms coming down the elevator method, so much less effort on the body, and the ball goes further and straighter, which i was totally surprised , great content Andrew thanks
Hi Andrew ..great drill …can you just clarify after impact does the right forearm just need to keep turning anti clockwise as far as possible whilst the body rotates. For me this prevents the left wrist from breaking backwards and “flipping “
Release patterns need to match your grip Dean. If you have a more neutral grip then you’re going to require more lead wrist supination. If you have a much stronger grip then you’ll want to limit rotation and release your speed into more lead wrist extension! You certainly don’t want to turn your right forearm “as far as possible!” I think that might have you close the face too much! I’ve always thought that the best instructor in the world is the golf ball. Let the direction of the ball be your guide and adjust your wrist mechanics accordingly! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
This has explained so much and now I see why the swing is effortless just a matter of practicing it by the way Andrew is this same for driver swing will I not be hitting down on it thank you so much these lessons are priceless
Yes sir! You may need to supinate your lead wrist a little earlier than the irons. It’s a gradual movement. You’re not slamming it down at the ball! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Club face first!! Is your trail hand too far under the grip? Is your face closed at address? Do you want a fade? Or a draw? Straight is the toughest! For the fade you have to slow the ROC - feel like your trail hand is more under the shaft as you release. For the draw remember to aim your club face further right (open) at address! Very hard to diagnose blindfolded but I hope these simple ideas help! Best, A 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Just came across your channel. I like it because this is how I learnt to play as a junior. However, I’m looking at most of your videos, you don’t appear to cover the backswing which is my problem. I have an overswing especially with the longer clubs. Can you please cover this ? I have tried a shorter backswing but my swing speed lowers and I don’t feel I have enough room to hit the ball. Thanks
Backswing is on my list of upcoming videos. I talk about the backswing in this video ⬇️ in particular the role of the trail arm! I hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/ELcJZmvLzSw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HRH6hlYWNWfGXrJH Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I love the hitchhiker drill and have made some great improvements with my iron shots. I’m carrying 150 with an 8, 160 with 7, etc but I’ll hit driver and can be anywhere between 200 and 280 or 50 yds right. Does hitchhiker work well for driver too?
Love this one bc I struggle marrying up the turning of my forearm to square up coming down AND remember to release the club past my hands. Questing- When you’re re-hinging just after impact, will the back of your left wrist be flat, or cupped?
Lead wrist should be cupped for sure ‘POST’ Impact as it rehinges! You’ll be hooking everything if it remains flexed and over rotated! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
You have great videos Andrew and I happened to be working on this yesterday and my contact was really crisp but I noticed when I really turned my left wrist down my start line was more left than I wanted. Do you have any suggestions for this? Thanks.
Like all things, it can be overdone! Make sure that your trail hand grip isn’t too far underneath (strong). That’s a common problem in particular with the driver! It could also be that you’re not getting your lead arm extended enough through the ball! Very hard without seeing! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Hi Andrew, just discovered you and like what I see but as a hooker of the golf ball you’ll appreciate this method scares me to death 😂 I can only go further left with this. Any ideas how to incorporate it into my swing without doing so? Thanks again and really enjoyed your demonstration ✊👍🏴
Grip might need a tweak!! Make sure your trail hand is not too far UNDER the handle! It’s super common and causes nightmares. A strong lead hand is fine but it needs to be paired with a well placed trail hand too. Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf thanks so much for your reply 🙏🏻 I’ll try that right hand adjustment as it is under more than on top!! 😳 looking forward to trying that Andrew and thanks again 👍
Hi Matt! A salient point for sure but the supination of the lead arm/wrist is turning down ‘through’ the ball. I believe I mentioned it’s ‘almost’ facing me at impact! As you know if the lead palm is facing completely down at the point of collision the club face would be closed causing hooks primarily. Bottom line is that most golfers aren’t supinating there lead forearm soon enough as they approach the golf ball! Like all things everything can be overdone! Many golfers may need to FEEL like their lead wrist is pointing down at impact because it’s usually pointing UP! Hope that makes sense. You gotta find what works for you based on your grip, preferred shot shape and of course match the release pattern accordingly! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
The vocab is all window dressing. Bottom line is to learn how to articulate your wrists and swing your arms freely in golf! Stick to the fundamentals and you’ll get better! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
doesn't this happen naturally if you swing without tension and just allow the club to swing ??? ...... or are you making a conscious effort to do this?
With 80+(%) of golfers slicing I believe that the majority of golfers need to do more than just relax and let it happen. In my experience these movements are a skill that needs to be learned initially. Although it varies of course from person to person. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Bill, the challenge is when the club face is wide open and then slammed closed at the ball. This is NOT an open to close release pattern! Rather a gradual and continual movement from lead wrist pronation to supination through the ball. Having said that, golf will ALWAYS require good timing! The idea that it doesn’t is a fallacy in my opinion - Even body driven swings seen by ‘elite athletes’ require timing. To quick with the body, ball misses right and to slow and the ball often misses left. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
