    What mental strategies have helped you?

    • @l01230123
      @l01230123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not ones that involve putting my experiences seeking out and killing strangers, in a fight I wouldn't know the politics of, into a cookie jar. It's tough to take a positive mental strategy serious from someone who tried to blackmail a women he cheated with, ya know?
      But hey, what would I know? I'm not an expert, and it's pretty obvious Goggins isn't either. (I've already made a comment about this) But he's kinda popular, "the man" I've herd, so lets spread dangerous misinformation about mental health strategies mixed in with more sensible discussions and call it something to think about. I get it, he's like Oprah for insecure men.
      Some videos/speakers on this channel are great, for people with experience or knowledge with proven strategies and what are practically "self help" scams, this one's got some stupid-in-the-face moments. 😓

      @Despize Perform My comment with sources keeps getting removed by TH-cam. You'll have to look up the following:
      The TL;DR version: *BBC* , "Missouri Governor Eric Greitens resigns amid sex scandal"
      Details, including why charges were dropped, and other sketchy things: *AP* *News* , "EXPLAINER: What’s the background of Senate hopeful Greitens?" (Note: the Url was for another article at one point)

    When i was 25 i said to me i was too old to get back to college, eventually i came back, when i was today studying i just say keep going, 38 years old learning new skills. I think the military thing might have helped me a lot at 18 years old. You know the basics, discilpline, do what you dont wanna do, start and finish your task, work in teams, work alone, respect the general, respect yourself, once in a while do hard tasks, and so on. No more words that man is a good trainer.

    Whenever I think I can't do it, or don't want to do it, then I break it up. I know I can do this much, and when that is done I find something else I can do, and then another bit again, until I realize my work is done.

    Good self talk is one thing that probably works for some. It relies on fast thinking (a real psychological term) which Asperger people like me do not have so we rely on long talk as with slow (and deep, conscious thinking).
    I wonder - are there any Asperger seals?
    What I mean is this: there are different people and you need a different kick to push them

      Interesting question! There may certainly be different mental strategies for people with particular conditions. As for SEALs with Asperger's--generally speaking, people with Autism Spectrum Disorders are disqualified from the U.S. Military but waivers are considered on a case by case basis, so it's not impossible. www.military.com/daily-news/2019/09/06/army-investigating-how-19-year-old-diagnosed-autism-was-recruited.html

      @@bigthink Whether Seal accept aspies I have no clue - I believe you, if you say they are not. Was the video meant for people planning on applying to the SEAL units only then? I do not think so. It was meant for all of us outside who wonder about mastery of soldiers of special forces and how this mastery may be passed on to a general population. My comment was meant to point out exactly this - we are not all the same and while the advice was maybe very true and working for some it may not work as good for others. Only this but not less than this. I was just curious how this applies to different people.

    I'm not alive to be 100% of anything.
    As for self-talk, yes, it's important to learn that you are not your thoughts, that they can be changed with practice and that not everything you think is true. But that is a process and if you aim to remember to encourage yourself in the height of an uncomfortable situation, I don't think that's gonna work. You have to work to rewire your entire thought process. It's a journey all by itself.

That is, be systematically ascetic or heroic in little unnecessary points, do every day or two something for no other reason than that you would rather not do it, so that when the hour of dire need draws nigh, it may find you not unnerved and untrained to stand the test. Asceticism of this sort is like the insurance which a man pays on his house and goods. The tax does him no good at the time, and possibly may never bring him a return. But if the fire does come, his having paid it will be his salvation from ruin. So with the man who has daily inured himself to habits of concentrated attention, energetic volition, and self-denial in unnecessary things. He will stand like a tower when everything rocks around him, and when his softer fellow-mortals are winnowed like chaff in the blast." - The Principles of Psychology, Chapter 4, William James (1890)

    Very useful advices in todays world of "political powers" grappling for our attention, for our emotional responce, conditioning us, and wanting our time and money. I think that we must search for what is the core of our spiritual or cultural identity (but also search for our negative traits and dark side to be able to work upon it), beocuse we live in the times when political ideologies and economic powers want to enslave our minds. And when we do the search into our true identity (good traits and bad traits) they wont be allowed to reinvent our personal needs and views. But in the meantime I think that its so hard to have a bit of internal soft talk, of speaking well about myself when most of those sorrounding me give me so much of demotivating and disregarding that I start to loose every bit of self-confidence I require to function day by day. :( Thats why I watch this video :)
