    Super stoked on this video guys,
    From hanger / baseplate angle, to wavecam angles and materials, to tighter tolerances and alternate resistance mechanics, it seems like you guys are onto a lot of what can be changed with the truck mechanism. That said the key piece that you missed is the fact that the goal was never to be a standard longboard truck the way a Ronin, Paris or Caliber is.
    We started going after what it feels like to carve / ride a surfboard or a snowboard and that's different from a skateboard. That's where the binary comes from. There is nothing to keep you from dropping in and railing a bottom turn further and further until you fall off.
    The fact that the mechanism could be modified again from our original intent to target the now much more evolved longboard market is something we have spent some time on, but have always run into issues with the checks and balances. Lower angles = more resistance needed, more resistance = more cam durability etc etc.
    You are 100% right,
    There should be lots of different options and anyone who wants to get technical and dive into their Original trucks should be able to do that with tighter part tolerances. I agree, there is much more to be done. Here's to making it happen.

      Longboards by Original Skateboards why the fuck would i want to ride like a surfboard and snowboard on a long board? also not snowboard,surfboards, and long board ride different so don't put surfboard ans snowboard in the same category.
      also the mentioned the point of it braking i don't want to by something thats gonna break because i use it ever day and bomb a small hill carving at a slow ish speed and it decides to snap and i go flying.
      most experience long boarders that put it to the test and really push the limits often say they are horrible many and i say the spring was good in theory. its all good in theory but how is it in practice.
      also you say they are suppose to be for carving but you want consistency when you carve i push soft or i push hard there should be a good response or the same then more standard trucks if they are for that purpose.

    I have been using the S8 200mm truck, red spring, Orangutang moranga 72.5 /83a , riding, sliding, carving and light hill rides.I LOVE them! Easy slide initiation, the speed control you have , even on steep hills , is amazing.I keep the wave cams greased and not over tightened. I ride everyday and have had no issues at all, even considering buying the S10 model next week.As for the surf board/snow board feel with the black spring, if don't like it , don't ride it.

    Another idea.
    By integrating OP cams along both sides of the hanger and having some sort of resistance to the front and back of the hanger(can also be used without resistance, in theory) you can achieve greater stability and a decrease in the amount of force needed to turn.
    This would allow for several different hanger orientations within the truck itself. In essence, completely floating hanger, with the ability to travel horizontally, parallel to the kingpin, allowing for the wheels to travel vertically using the kingpin as a fulcrum. Allowing for a smoother turn along with a lowering in the center of gravity of the board based on the tilt in the truck.
    Think about this for a second;
    An Originaltruck, in which the spring in not only resistance, but is also promoting a more stable turn without the use of wavecams. With the baseplate being closed off boardside, or roadside, and only leaving the hanger open to the other end. Of coarse, having a bolt keeping it all from falling apart.
    Picture a square, with OP cams running along adjacent sides allowing for movement in both the vertical AND horizontal planes.
    This being the basis to my idea, and allows for not only a change in the center of gravity of the board as a whole, but also in wheel base, depending on the orientation of the cams; having the cams boardside drops the deck while decreasing wheelbase allowing for a harder carve, and roadside pushes the center of gravity towards the apex of the turn and increase the overall wheelbase increasing stability throughout a turn.
    The idea being, the hanger itself is able to move horizontally, while the wheels travel vertically and have that "fall to center" tendency the OP trucks have. Thus allowing the truck to change the board's center of gravity drastically throughout a turn, depending on the degree of deck tilt.
    I will sketch something up real quick and post it on your Facebook page, maybe it will help a little more than my crude description.

    Actually Ronins don't rely on bushings to keep the hangar in place. That's what the support pin is for and that's what makes them special. You're completely correct as far as basically any other traditional bushing truck goes. Ronins are cool because they have a stable center but still lean like crazy because of the wide open bushing seat (because it's not holding the hangar in place.)

    I loved the K2 kickboard when I had it for a short period in college. I must've had it for less than 30 days because I was able to return it. It was sad because it was very smooth and the single knob turning was perfect. the reason I returned it was the rear wheel crack and started breaking apart. I would've kept it if they had replacement options. years later they came out with another bamboo deck version I bought it, loved it once again but they recalled it due to potential board breakage =(

    i've ridden them downhill and i would use them only as a front truck, the back truck for me is best a wide tracker (almost as wide as the widest original) a tkp truck in the back thus, that works wonders on the right board (front wedged up best) ! Try it at least once ;-)

    I have 200mm red spring original trucks. They're alright. Started with the black springs. But once I went to red and started like really carving I started breaking cams. I've broken at least 4 sets of cams to the point where I topped using it. If the cams are broken you get slop, and speed wobble at higher speeds. So now I have bear grizzly gen 5

    Is funny how different and complex design is this one comparing with the standard trucks design. Is true that in a mechanical point of view is and interesting and amazing design and lets you adjust the design either with the cams angle or spring stiffness. But at the same time, I think is such a more expensive design comparing to the standard bushing design. I don't know if its worth it in the cost point of view.

    Idea:
    Original Trucks, minus the spring.
    Replace spring with a set of squishy bushings.
    Cast a few new set of wave cams, altering the angle of steepness.
    And just for a kicker, add a set of o-rings to "pull" rather than "push apart the wave cams.
    Or maybe add a weaker spring in place of the stock Original one, maybe by adding the "outside resistance" of the o-rings initial resistance would be less dramatic than that of the stock Original truck set up. Perhaps it may even take away some of the, almost negligible, slop.

    • @LongboardTechnology
      @LongboardTechnology  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes.
      Very much yes.
      All these ideas we really want to find time to try.
      Only, Using "orings" or something to pull the wavecams we hadn't thought of.
      And that actually sounds like a very good idea.

    i disassembled my original trucks and i saw what you are talking about. the cams are going to be problematic. gonna be subjected to a lot of wear and tear, specially on a carving setup (which i have).

  • @marccawood
    @marccawood 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You biggest concern is.... it's possible to make custom ("programmable") cam profiles and... these aren't. Small concern that. The proof is in the pudding: once you get used to them they carve sweetly. Don't forget skateboard trucks were originally designed for roller skates so it's not a bad thing to share designs. btw skateboard hex sizes are fir tiny hardware screws and much too small for this application.

    • @LongboardTechnology
      @LongboardTechnology  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We actually had a 5 min tangent going into more details about the custom cams, and the difficulties of making them, that we ended up having to cut.
      They carve nice when I complexly ignore the feedback from the resistance.
      The fact that it origins from scooter isn't bad, the only problem associated with it is that it was adapted poorly in many ways.
      I disagree with the hex size being too small. Its a bit small for the bolt size, and would require a custom bolt to be made. but it isn't too small for the torque load, at all.

      Marc Cawood
      Oh, we definitely have a lot of experience with trucks that require you to "almost jerk to initiate a turn" All of the very very early, pre-2008 Other Planet trucks had that, and its our opinion it isn't a good thing no matter how used to it you get.
      Hopefully we'll get to play around with cams.
      It would be really cool if we could just figure out something really good that works, and we just sent it to original and be like "Here, make these."

    I have a pair on really really high risers along with 97 mm wheels on a seven foot longboard I used there white spring and I love them at a five foot wheel base there awesome a very very surf like feeling. I built it based on what the hamboard guys use but put alot of camber in it. Ide be honored if you checked out my giant street surfer videos and tell me what you think. I've been considering getting your trucks but I cannot afford them, so I have been looking for good cruising/carving trucks that can go down hill if necessary. I have come across the original and Paris trucks and I am stumped. Original trucks have many more features and a fun cruising experience but seem unreliable. And Paris trucks seem like really good trucks for a low price but I don't know how. Well they would fair on the huge hills. What would you recommend?

    • @LongboardTechnology
      @LongboardTechnology  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which I recommend definitely depends on how you're going to go about using them.
      Originals are definitely for cruising and carving, but won't tackle huge hills comfortably.
      Paris... I consider Paris to be essentially Randals, but with attempts at higher quality casting, and better stock bushings. Lots of people run Paris, and because they're bushing trucks, you can literally make them into whatever experience you want because there are so many bushing options out there.

      Orginals also have different spring types, they have higher tension springs that'd you can use for DH and lighter tension for carving. Unfortunately for me I'm so light that even their lightest spring tension is to much for me to use for carving lol.

    This trucks are an engineers nightmare. So many extra parts that could break. More expensive to manufacture. Inferior performance than bushing trucks. They wobble like Homers Simpson belly if yo do DH. Awkward to slide a la max. They carve as good as any other trucks (bears,paris you know 50-60 dollar trucks sets idk what you like) with the appropriate bushings for your style(10$ for new bushings).Also bushing trucks you can early grab a 10 stair and they are ok after ill like to see original doing that.
