    I must admit Bar Keepers Friends stainless steel liquid cleaner really does remove water stains or chemical stains from kitchen sink. Last night my daughter accidentally used toilet bowl cleaner to clean the sink and it left ugly chemical stains on my sink. I was so upset because we are renting this house so this isn’t even our sink to begin with. I went this morning to purchase Bar keepers friend and it worked wonders. I purchased the scotch brite scour pads and use lukewarm water and took a couple of scrubs but it finally worked. Highly recommend Bar Keepers friend liquid cleanser.

    Shuuut tha! Whaaaaat tha!! Like so many other commenters I used a chemical (CLR) to remove some rust I had in a utensil holder and left it in my sink. Needless to say there was a big dark stain. I tried the overnight baking soda and vinegar method and baking soda and dish detergent. It didn’t fade and it didn’t budge. I knew for sure i was going to lose my security deposit on my apt because of it. I went to Lowes and picked up the liquid Bar Keepers Friend with a sponge and got to work. Folks….the stain is gone!! I went over it about 3 times. I would’ve done it 5 more if that meant spending $5 over my deposit. Thanks DIY!!

    Just today I stained my kitchen sink in the exact same manner. I've used Clorox bleach gel toilet bowl cleaner in the past with great success to shine up my sink and get rid of coffee stains and such. In the pandemic, I haven't been able to find more of that same clorox bleach gel toilet bowl cleaner so I went with lysol gel toilet bowl cleaner. NOT. THE.SAME. THING!!!!!! I squirted it in, wiped it around and let it sit about a half hour (which is what I do with the bleach type cleaner usually) and came into my kitchen to find BLACK streaks all over both sinks! I tried many things and what finally worked was BKF (the powder) and I need to get some more to finish the job but yikes, my sink looked horrid. I'm also a sweaty mess after all that scrubbing. I won't make that mistake again, but I will say that Clorox bleach gel cleaner works great to shine up your sink under normal circumstances. NEVER NEVER NEVER use lysol gel toilet bowl cleaner. The lysol cleaner also smells horrible. The Clorox smells nice and clean and fresh.

    • @DIYCrasher
      @DIYCrasher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Katie for sharing your story. It is a workout with all the scrubbing. At least you used the powdered form of BKF which is more abrasive than the liquid one I used. Funny I had never heard of using toilet bowl cleaner to clean a sink until I came across this sink that the renters had tried it on. It must have been the Lysol brand!

    Noticed the other day while using some old Liquid Plumber, it had congealed some and I had to sort of use a spoon and swirl it around to get it down the drain. In the morning, the drain (in the sink) was shinny as heck!!! I'm gonna get another bottle, use gloves and some skotchbrite and see what it can really do. Might even try it on the nasty copper line on the propane tank to the house. It must have some acidic property to it that can really remove some stains.

    • @DIYCrasher

      Hmm... Could try to use the liquid BKF and do a buffing type scrubbing action to try to get the stains out. If you happen to have an electric polisher or borrow one or rent one then would try that. A polisher would make light work of trying to get the stains out. It's worth trying before having to replace a sink. If that doesn't work then maybe contact BKF company to see if they have recommendations for your scenario.

Be sure to go with the grain of the metal sink and follow the instructions on the product. It will take some elbow grease to get rid of the black staining. It was an acid that stained the sink I did this on in the video, should hopefully work for your situation.

    Does it work on stainless steel fridge as well?

    • @DIYCrasher
      @DIYCrasher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does. Just be sure to scrub in the direction of the "grain" of the stainless steal. Don't scrub in circular patterns or against the grain because it will be noticeable afterwards by looking like surface scratches.

    I sprinkled barkeepers friend on my wet stainless steel sink and then took a wet scrubber with a squirt of Dawn on it and quickly scrubbed both sides of the sink, then immediately rinsed. The whole process lasted less that 2 minutes, but now my sink has a permanent white haze. I'll never use that stuff again

      Wow I haven't heard of that happening before. I'm not quite sure. You could try to use a spray bleach on the stains. I had got a blue HCL toilet cleaner on a laminate countertop and it stained it blue, I used a spray bleach and it took it right off. Good luck!

Wish I can post the Before & After pics of my sink here to let folks see. Mine was a 100x times worse than the sink in this video. Frankly I dun hv much confidence in restoring it back to its original state and was prepared to fork out a huge sum of $ to have it replaced with a new one. Thanks god for your vid, DC ! Now my sink is as shiny, or maybe even shinier than what it was and the missus is all lovey dovey again. Lol. Again I wish I can show the pics here....of the new shiny sink, I mean. ;)

    It's the acid based toilet bowl cleaners. I used on my sink to remove heavy mineral deposits. I ended up with dark streaks. My undermount sink's silicone caulk appears to have played a role. My streaks are extra durable! Comet does nothing.

    • @DIYCrasher
      @DIYCrasher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It didn't make swirl scratches in the sink. It might be because it was the liquid soft scrub instead of the more gritty powder form of Bar Keepers. There are many other videos showing people using a buffer that moves in a circular motion and they had great results. Follow directions to any products you use. This is a 30+ year old sink and the point was to remove the chemical stains, wasn't in the best condition to begin with.

    I had a zip Grout cleaner and brightening bottle leaking so I left it in my kitchen sink for a few minutes to find another bottles to transfer the liquid. This formula is extremely acidic my brand new 9 weeks old Farmer's sink is tarnished. I used everything under the sun it can't be restored at all. I have a big white stain in the sink. I think it's stripped the Finish coat on the sink.

    baking soda and steel wool scrubber or pad. Or clr and steel wool. Also do not pour javex or bleach then any type of acid in sink. You will create deadly chemical fumes.

      I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for your situation. This was not a commercial for bar keeepers, the sink was stained from toilet bowl cleaner. Not sure what stained yours but this sink did take a lot of scrubbing for it to work. There are other videos out there with people using a power buffer and some kind of compound to buff out stains, maybe that's something you need to try.
