I am 60, have been retired for 2.5 years and have decided to get back in the game. Its been 35 years since I graduated college and I spent most of my career in my own business, unrelated to health fields. Now, I'm doing prerequisites to enter a nursing program. I will be 63, by the time I have my BSN, but as long as I'm strong and healthy, I am almost convinced it doesn't matter. Being retired isn't challenging or fullfilling to me Those of us who have maturity and world knowledge are perhaps in a better position to make a difference in health care and in people's lives.
I'm 44 and have no family behind me, and I'm worried that going back for this is going to further delay meeting someone and making that happen. On the other hand, my private sector tech job is getting less attractive and is not conducive to finding a partner, so I know I need a change. It's really stressful. I spent 10 years in college/grad school already, but tech jobs are unsustainable.

Nursing is a very challenging program and you need a strong background in science in order to be successful. My suggestion would be to start with college-level science courses and see how it goes!
If it's in your heart, then go for it! So much of the joy of becoming a nurse is the transformative experience you go through...that's priceless at any age!
Could you clarify how resourcefulness can be acgr at asset? I feel like I am resourceful and want to utilize this skill in a new career change such as nursing from teaching. ☺️
Hi there! Essentially being able to solve problems and seek solutions independently...for example, if you have a question about something it's far more efficient if you can find the answer yourself rather than simply relying on someone else to answer it for you. Chances are, you'll find the information MUCH more quickly than if you have to wait for someone else to respond. Best of luck to you!
LPN is a fabulous option! And if you decide to get your RN, you can work as a nurse while you go through a bridge program :-) Wishing you ALL the best!!
I'm with little kids. Some are very spoiled and task oriented. I have worked my whole life I am an LVN and married to a fire captain. Thor is very little support for us they assume we are fine while the little kids get all the nice comments and support. I definitely shine in clinical. But this has been disappointing
I'm sorry you're experiencing this. Is it possible the younger students are getting more support is because they need it, whereas you are performing at a higher level? Just something to think about. 💕 Regardless, I am proud of you!!!! I hope your next clinical rotation is a better experience...keep on believing in yourself :-)

YESSSSS!
I’m 43 currently in prerequisites nursing courses and I’m struggling. I’m doing online accelerated classes and it is not for the weak. Any tips?
Congrats on taking steps to pursue your goals! Online classes can be challenging, and accelerated classes even more so. What specifically are you struggling with? Is it the material, time management...something else?
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for this video. Starting LVN program this month. I have a question. Does your camp also help LVN nursing students?
Yes it does!
Thank you
You are welcome!
Am 44yrs. Living in Nigeria. I want to study nursing in USA. How do I enrol. This impressive
Hi Anthony, start by researching the schools you are interested in. They will have all the details for what is required on their websites. Best of luck to you!
Im 46 was in special ed throughout school, I dropped out of jr college 20 years ago because my grades were so bad. I had a 0.8 gpa and I have never worked a day in my life, seriously, not one. My IQ is 86. What are the odds I would succeed?
Nursing is a very challenging program and you need a strong background in science in order to be successful. My suggestion would be to start with college-level science courses and see how it goes!
What about 70s?
I am a 50-year-old CNA seriously considering an LPN program. Is this considered a good transition at this age?
LPN is a fabulous option! And if you decide to get your RN, you can work as a nurse while you go through a bridge program :-) Wishing you ALL the best!!
We don't say "older student" anymore. It's now known as "non-trad student" aka non-traditional. :)
Thanks for jumping in to the conversation and sharing your insight 💕
Never too old...never
Right on!
A very thankless career. A career that will give you PTSD. Wreck your back and spirit. Otherwise a "great job."
