Jamaica Mango & Lime is a whole product line, whereas Jamaica Black Caster oil is castor oil made in Jamaica, but there are different brands, and castor oil comes from different places. Just a clarification. Good tips.

Is the Jamaican Mango & Lime line bad for locs. Or is it just a build up thing? I kind of took a “laissez faire” approach to my locs so far just letting them grow with minimal upkeep but I want to take better care of them going forth

I actually braid mine before a workout on those occasions where want to maintain my retwist a little longer. when my hair was even shorter (and still locking) I would wear a scarf on my head for that sort of activity.

Make a water & ACV spray, you can add essential oil for scent. Spray your scalp once or twice a week. Make an oil blend for your scalp with jojoba oil, grape seed oil, tea tree, rosemary, peppermint & carrot oil. *Oil blend is acne friendly.*

I think what helps with working out is pulling your hair back into a tighter style. Like a ponytail or a bun, something that keeps the roots tight. Because the times when I don’t, I swear that retwist immediately is sweated out lol

I spray my scalp with a homemade spritz of water, glycerin, vit E oil, and essential oils. That and washing my hair no longer than 2weeks in between works. I'll always take a healthy scalp over trying to hold onto a retwist.

Your hair doesn't need hydration as often as people claim. Especially when you have locs. Spritzing my hair or scalp lightly every 10 or 14 days does it for me, I add a light oil to seal and I'm good to go. At the end of day, you need to experiment and see what works for you. I promise you, your locs won't fall off if you don't spritz your hair every day. This hydrating every day thing, is a preference thing, a commercial strategy that companies use to get people to buy products regularly.

Fresh Prince Of BR you may or may not still have locks😂 but if you do moisturize and condition then retwist and don’t put anything else on them or touch them for a few weeks, 2-3 til you wash again
I created my oil mix of extra virgin olive oil, with a few drops of tea tree oil (great for the itchy scalp), orange, lemongrass, and eucalyptus. So you could either retwist with that, or use aloe vera gel. I also spray my hair with a water mix of bottled water, with a few drops of peppermint, and a tablespoon of glycerine. :)

sheniqua davis try only misting the length and avoid water on your roots directly. Jojoba oil and coconut oil are light enuff to go on scalp and keep it moist and not itchy or flaky. But try to only let water get on the ends. Also when you sleep with ur satin bonnet u can guide troublesome side and top locs in the direction you want them to lay and if u sleep wild maybe put a soft clip so they dont get mushed in some other direction. When theyre stuck to ur head like a helmet just try shaking them out and reeeally light mist.

@@ascwahid i’m just starting out with locs myself lol, but i look up locs videos all the time they’re very informative! i’ve heard the best option is to sleep with a satin scarf or a loc soc. you shouldn’t retwist everytime you shower, but instead you can gently “unmarry” your parts, where you feel strands aren’t where they’re supposed to be. and as far as products all you need is the oil(s) of your choice and water

How long have you had your locs? If your hair is not somewhat locked, you can mess them up but if they are, there is no issue. The only problem is are you going to retwist your hair back after washing it? Retwisting your hair too often can thin out your roots.
Aniyah XO oil can’t still cause build up but definitely not as much as gel or beeswax. Ur gonna have to style it when u retwist cuz it won’t last without it
Aniyah XO i know I’m late, but if you already have build up you can do an apple cider vinegar rinse (there’s tutorials here on TH-cam). if you have been putting beeswax or gel in your locs for a while I recommend doing the rinse. Even if your hair doesn’t appear to have a lot of buildup, a lot of times the inside of the locs have it and you can’t see it. To prevent it, like the other commenter said, use oil and water to re twist and make sure you’re washing your hair as frequently as you need to. Some oils can become solid when put at a cold enough temperature, such as coconut oil, and some don’t, like olive oil. Just be aware of what kind of oil you’re using and if you’re putting one of the solid oils on the length of your locs, try not to put too much
