    I'd definitely be interested in some videos about climate change. It's so important to change as many minds as possible, and sadly I think most are locked in ideologically, so that a lot of what could've been prevented is too late :(.
    Yes I'm fun at parties, why do you ask?
    From your book rush challenges, I doubt you've seen the animated movie The Last Unicorn, but it's great and the book by Peter Beagle is supposed to be great too. It's one Neil Gaiman approves of. It's quick, has a fairy tale quality to it. Check it out!

    • @gustavogutierrez2709
      @gustavogutierrez2709 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is too late. Even if we suddenly changed, it would take about 40 years to see changes. And that’s not happening anytime soon with the people in charge in making that change.

    • @realsushrey
      @realsushrey 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      'Truth is a powerful thing, and must be handled with caution'-Dumbledore. It is very counter-productive to say its too late when trying to make people listen to you. If its truely too late, stop crying about spilled milk and prepare for the storm and salvage whatever you can. If only could people listen is as good as saying if only the earth was flat. A crowd is not very different from a computer, you must enter the right ideas in it to get it to do what you want. There is a reason why commanders give rousing speeches and not gloomy ones. Its always how we are going to win or die for a very good cause. Saying otherwise is just giving up any chance at a good fight.

    If you consider your parent's house as "your home", then you would be reading The Obelisk Gate 'outside of your home' ... 5 prompts done.
    The things I learned about you today. A) your favorite soda looks a lot like wine. 2) you swear a lot in real life. C) you're fun at parties 😁

    I just discovered Grimdark too. I read Joe Abercrombie's Shattered Sea trilogy (YA?) It's a good introduction to Grimdark because each of those books can be read as a stand alone. However, the first book was so good that even though nothing in the 1st book lead you to the 2nd book, I was so excited about how much I enjoyed it, I immediately read the 2nd book and then the 3rd. Again, each book could easily be read as a stand alone. So now that I've read those books, I am totally ready to read The First Law Trilogy!

  • @elenathegreat
    @elenathegreat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    omg I’m the same with committing to series, I’m glad I read the broken earth trilogy in one go so it didn’t turn into series I don’t end. I feel like the fifth season is part of the new fantasy genre - things like poppy war, fifth season, and Jade war I think do a good job of taking older fantasy tropes that the classic fantasy books have and upending them

    • @elenathegreat
      @elenathegreat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      also I feel similarly about the reading rush, I’m planning on reading a lot this week and if the books I read fit the prompts then that’s great but I’m just going to try to read about 2x what I Normally read in a week

    I am into darker books as well, but I am a little cautious because I feel like a good portion of dark books are cases of violence for the sake of violence and nothing more. I don't want to read that. And I agree with you about war stories in which I am just straight up not interested. In other words, adult fantasy is really hard for me to navigate and find books I actually like but when I do I get really attached really quickly. One of these authors I found was Christina Henry and I read her retellings. The one I began with was Alice and I think that is my favourite, but I believe Lost Boy is her most popular. In this one she writes about how Captain Hook was a lost boy and how he grew to hate Peter Pan

    I recommend the Green Riders series by Kristin Britain for adult fantasy. The series starts with the main character after she finishes school and then the series progresses as she grows. I love the Broken Earth Series by N. K. Jemisin, I read the whole series within a few days.
    I have read two books in the Poppy War Trilogy, it's really good but I have my issues with the series. I don't mind dark themes, but especially the first book is occasionally unnecessarily graphic.
    Here are some of my favorite adult fantasies:
    The Library at Mount Char is a great dark fantasy book, very weird and unpredictable. The Checque Files Duology is similarly weird, but more accessible for a YA audience and not dark.
    Rebecca Roanhorse's books are amazing, but she hasn't finished any of her series yet.
    The Divine Cities Trilogy is also amazing, some dark themes, but I don't think it's categorized as grimdark fantasy.

    Goodluck for your journey into Adult Fantasy.
    13:30 Ikr!? Hollywood is like that to. They love criticising capitalism & monopolies in their products but obviously have no problem contributing to the problem. Systems are happy to be hypocritical if it means sales. It’s not about principles. It’s about PR & what principles they need to pretend to care about to maximise business.
    & I also always swear in real life 😂

    Hey! I chuckled when it got to the reading rush tbr :P I think the biggest problem I have with the rush is that if I try and read that many books I just don't take it in, like I love it when you are so into a book that you just devour every word, and you almost don't want to finish it haha. The rush just puts me in a slump more than anything, as reading is like my outlet from work, I would hate to set targets for it tbh .
    And it would be so cool to see a video dedicated to books on climate change :D

    i would love a climate change book video! i was going to comment suggesting this changes everything, because i read that book in high school and it was one of the biggest reasons why i went on to study environmental science and policy at university. it's really dense, but definitely worth it. if you're looking for other climate change books, the sixth extinction by elizabeth kolbert is another one that really affected me. the book eat for the planet by nil zacharias is another interesting, short book about the impact of food production on the climate. and for a climate book that is more hopeful, i haven't read the future earth by eric holthaus yet but it's all about ways to change society to avoid climate change and also make the world better overall!
    sorry for the long comment, climate books are a big niche interest for me haha

    Not to state that either part is guilty or innocent, but Scott Lynch was recently accused of an abusive relationship by another author, Alex Rowland (it also involves Lynch's wife). There's a lot of different information about all of the parties involved, but I recommend looking into it before launching into one of their series.

    Honestly please do a climate change book recommendation video! I always want to know what books to read that are not going to fill me with existential dread and guilt. It would be nice to get information about solutions from books not just 'here's 300 pages of all the different ways we're going to die and there is nothing we can do about it' which was the main reason I couldn't finish the uninhabitable earth because it made me want to sleep for 1000 years lol. With climate change books it's really hard to gauge if I'm going to feel educated and enabled to make better choices or if I'm just going to feel like crying so some recommendations for different moods or education levels would be really good 👍

    I don't care about war either, but the battle scenes in Lord of the Rings are like two pages long haha. At first I was so confused, because the battles are like the biggest part of the movies, but also so happy that they were rather short in the books. The same with Narnia, I don't even remember any real battles in there.
    I loooove the idea about climate change, I'm so passionate about it 🖤

    The existential dread is the strongest drive for action at this point. Please please please make that video!!!

    i'd love a vlog with books about climate change! although it isn't a pleasant topic, it's important that all of us educate ourselves about it ❤️

    Reading vlog about climate change? Yes please😍 I'm very curious to see what books you're going to choose and to hear what you think about them!

    Girl have you read the Nevernight Chronicles? It’s a dark adult fantasy series with an secret assassin school (with magic) and a lot of morally grey characters:)

    Loved your video. I have to agree that it's hard to finish a book series. I've only finished two in my entire life: The Chronicles of Narnia and The Hunger Games. I have never finished any other one, especially when I start it when the book series first comes out. It is easier to finish once all of the books in a series have been released, but even then, it's tough. I'm glad you brought this up because it seems like a problem that a lot of readers have.
    I also like the idea of discussing climate change books, but I feel like a lot of them delve into the problems without really offering up any solutions. Specifically political solutions. I don't wish to get too political, but I feel like 90% of the problem comes from corporations and the politicians that take campaign funds from them. I don't think we're going to see a real solution to the problem of climate change until you tether the oil and gas and airline and automobile and big farm and polluter money away from the people who make public policy on climate and environmental issues. It'd be nice if there was a non fiction book that discussed this and offered solutions on how to make this necessary detachment possible.
    Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Glad it's turning into a more regular thing. :)

    I've read only one series of adult fantasy, and it was really good (it's actually three series or four, but I don't know how to explain that, not in English). I don't know what is the name of those serieses (not in English), so I'll write the of the author. Robin Hobb, her writing is brilliant.

    I feel you on the physical or audiobook dilemma with non fiction. I would never finish a non fiction physically, but I feel like I don’t retain info well when I listen to the audiobook... which is counterproductive cuz I read non fiction to learn stuff. Are we dumb😔😔😔

    I’ve got the same feeling abt adult fantasy too but I think it’s bc most adult fantasies are “high fantasies” and as someone who mostly reads sci-fi set in urban environments it can seem intimidating to just dive in head first into them

    I'd definitely watch a video on books about climate change! I picked up a few books on it months ago and haven't read a single one because of the existential dread 😂

    Factfulness by Hans Rosling is a super interesting book full with facts and data covering a whole range of pressing world 'problems'.....It's actually really up-lifting; showing that things are getting better for a change.

    Yes, books about climate change, please!!! There's already a lot of booktube content about fantasy books. I would love to watch a more science-y booktube content!! Also, would love to get recommendations on nonfiction science / Biology books, since I'm a big science nerd as well :D
