Thanks for the great update! So sad to see that nothing's going on right now with the old Ocean Holiday Motel. Stayed there many times during the '70s, '80s and '90s. Used to be owned by a wonderful Italian family. So many great memories, hope that they can open for the summer season.
I am glad Binn’s is getting a much needed makeover. In the late 80’s and early 90’s it was a really nice place to stay. But it went downhill rapidly. It is comforting to know that someone bought it who cares enough to make it great again.
I looked up when the Binns Hotel was built --1940! It never was Doo-Wop but the Bonito was (1964). I hope that the renovation brings the Binns back to that 1940s moderne luxe look.

I lived at 330 E Magnolia on the first floor in the summer of 1990 with friends. If the camera would pan to the right looking west you would see it. I think all this new development is extreme
Joey the Pacific Avenue project is 42 condos. The Residence on Pacific. We have both blocks. The VFW will be coming down in the next 7-9 months. It's our temporary storage right now.
The Madison reconstruction and re-creation is truly OUTSTANDING. It will be the premier motel in WWC (the location is unparalleled on the park) and it shows that there's lots of life in the motels. That takeoff roof and vaulted lobby is BETTER than original (I think the Moreys only could dream of this given 1960s construction materials) and this comes from someone who (as a youngster) remembers the glam original. And I think we can trust Dan Alicea to do a great job on the Royal Hawaiian as Madison Part II. I don't think he'll have to do the ton of work on RH that he had to do on the Oceanview. The former Singapore, now condos, is going to be dwarfed by the two.
Aside from the cookie cutter condos, it's so nice to see both Binns-Bonito being upgraded to the Doo-Wop style and the Madison is looking superb--the lobby is back to original style glory. Unfortunately it's making the Admiral across the street look a little geeky. This is what you can do on the original footprint and NOT intrude on the view corridor.
Wildwood should not allow any more condos to be built until a set number of Doo Woop buildings are built. There are at least two long blocks of ugly expensive condos in North Wildwood where every unit has the same drab color of vinyl siding. Guess the contractor saved a few bucks purchasing a boat load of same ugly color vinyl siding.Thanks Joey for all of the updates.
@@garbo8962 I'd agree with that. And there are a couple of buildings in WWC that are in the Deco/Moderne style that turned out to be really interesting. But 90% of these condos look like condos with balconies that would fit on LBI or on the Hudson or somewhere in Ohio. All fiberboard, low cost construction, and won't last through our weather.
The condo developers cut corners and razed classic motels for cheap looking condos. But, some motel buildings were kept and converted into condos but the signs were removed, some were saved for the doo wop museum. I wish the Castle Dracula guys would open a new haunt attraction. There was talk about a new attraction being built someday somewhere around Wildwood. At least the Morey’s reopened part of the Ghost Ship this year.
Bummer ! Ain't like I remembered back in the late 70's but I reckon time has to march on and changes have to happen ! In the meantime I'll just keep it in my memories the way it used to be ! Still, one day I would like to visit again !
Why is it no surprise that the Ocean Holiday, a/k/a Icona's Bridge Too Far, didn't get heard last week by the WWC board? Any update on the suit by the Compass owners? Sadly the owners of the Compass, Shalimar, and especially the Bristol Plaza are going to go a 5th year with this eyesore which is rusting and starting to collapse. (And I'm sure that the Armada owners are worried about incidents only 8 feet away from their property's wall.)
I've stayed at the Shalimar for 30 years. I don't mind the Ocean Holiday looking like it is now because I still prefer THAT over condos! I hope the new hotel that is constructed there doesn't block the views, I do feel bad for the Compass in particular.
@@infinite_vortex We've stayed over at the Bristol for well over 10 years. It doesn't bother the loyalists but it bothers those who haven't stayed there over time and know the circumstances. We stayed at the OH when the Bristol would be block booked for events. They were near-mirrors of each other as built in 1970, the last of the Doo Wop along with the Port Royal. BTW the Shalimar is a 2005 update of a 1964 building. I think you'd agree the owners did a nice job of making it look modern yet retro. In October the blowcart folks stay there.
A seashore town is being turned into a city. All of these units will stop those beautiful sea breezes. It will be a hot n sticky town. I grew up in the Wildwoods and this so called growth has changed it forever.
Given this economy, I can't see how people can afford these as second seasonal homes. If we start to see defaults, it's the beginning of bad times in the WWs.

Any news about updates to Montego Bay? The beach front rooms are in need of a lot of work. I do not think the upper floors have been touched in 15 - 20 years. I stayed there for more years than the can remember. Air conditioners sound like a jet is taking off in your bedroom. Last time I was there I had to be moved 3 times related things the air conditioning . I had to have mold scrubbed from the bedroom by the ceiling. I spend 10 days there and want things in better condition. So sad and disappointing.
Wildwood always needed to up their game with better lodging and it appears nothing is coming anytime soon. Part of me hates to see motels being replaced by condos but the other part of me understands the reality. We stopped going to the Wildwoods a long time ago because of the dumpy motels/hotels. For the price of some of the few nicer hotels, you should consider going to Disney World instead which we have done. The free beaches and boardwalk are still nice to visit.
I gave to agree - much of the construction has increased the price of rental in WW - for the rates being asked you can go to an all inclusive for that - plane food and ride included. Can be quite expensive 😢
Great. More butt ugly condos that are outrageous expensive, along with the motels. I checked the Madison for the 3 week in August, just a regular room. $500-600 a night! That's absolutely ridiculous! The Oasis starts at $871 a week! The average Wildwood vacationer soon won't be able to afford it! Gotta get like Avalon

So so sad to see what Wildwood has become. Condo land. The beach feel is gone replaced by mini Miami Beach.
It's bland two-three story condos in blue gray and white made out of fiberboard that could be anywhere. Zero Doo-Wop or visual interest.
