  • Join us on an exhilarating bushwalk through the stunning Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park as we explore the Mount Ku-ring-gai Station to Berowra Station track. This 10km track, which was closed to the public for over a year due to the 2022 flood damage, has finally reopened. We couldn't wait to hit the trail and share our experience with you!
    Starting the Journey
We began our adventure by parking our car at Mount Ku-ring-gai Station and taking a short train ride to Berowra Station, where our walk officially started. This setup makes it a perfect day out by public transport, ideal for those looking for an accessible bushwalking experience close to Sydney.
    Descending to Cowan Creek
The walk kicks off with a descent of approximately 2km. The initial stretch is filled with the natural beauty of dense woodlands and the promise of more scenic wonders to come. As we made our way down, we were greeted by the serene sight of Cowan Creek at Waratah Bay. This area is known for its tranquil waters and lush surroundings, making it a fantastic spot for a quick rest and some nature photography.
    Walking Along the Creek
The next 4-5km of the track follow the meandering path of Cowan Creek. This section of the walk is truly a highlight, offering picturesque views of the creek and its surrounding flora. The sound of water flowing and birds singing created a calming ambiance that made this part of the hike especially enjoyable.
    Waratah Bay and Windybank's Boatshed
As we continued our walk along Cowan Creek, we reached Waratah Bay, the site of the historic Windybank's Boatshed. While only a rusting frame remains, it's easy to imagine the romantic holiday 'paradise' that once stood here. This spot is perfect for a break, allowing you to soak in the peaceful surroundings and reflect on the history of the area.
    Ascending to Mount Ku-ring-gai Station
After enjoying the scenic walk along the creek, it was time for the final challenge: the ascent to Mount Ku-ring-gai Station. This part of the track is steep and can be quite demanding, but the sense of accomplishment and the stunning views along the way make it all worthwhile. As we climbed, we were rewarded with breathtaking vistas of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, a fitting end to a remarkable bushwalking experience.
    Our Experience and Tips
This moderately challenging track is rated Grade 3, making it suitable for most walkers with a reasonable level of fitness. We completed the hike in about 5 hours, taking our time to enjoy the scenery and capture plenty of photos and videos. Here are a few tips from our adventure:
Wear Comfortable Walking Shoes: The track is rugged and can be slippery in parts, so sturdy, comfortable walking shoes are essential.
Pack Plenty of Water and Snacks: There are no facilities along the track, so make sure to bring enough water and some snacks to keep your energy up.
Check Weather Conditions: The track can be affected by weather conditions, so it's a good idea to check for any alerts or closures before you go.
Start Early: To make the most of your day and avoid the heat, we recommend starting your hike early in the morning.
    A Perfect Day Out
The Mount Ku-ring-gai to Berowra track offers an ideal day out for those looking to escape the city and immerse themselves in nature. With its combination of beautiful scenery, historical sites, and a touch of adventure, this bushwalk is a must-do for any outdoor enthusiast.
