    I'm a Manly supporter but I would like to see Parra be successful again and win a premiership.

    The super league war benefitted Parramatta the most when they signed the 4 superstars from the Bulldogs and a few other big names

      And this led to a golden premiership window from 1998-2001. They could easily have won 2-3 premierships during this time if not for finals meltdowns

      @@jagobbin2 They could have but I think they lacked the X Factor in the key positions compared to the clubs that won those comps. They lacked clutch players like Andrew Johns or Darren Lockyer.

      @@pantherz9103I don't think they needed an X Factor player, as you suggested. Especially in 2001. They were leading the competition the whole year. Whether that be in attack or defense. They were streets above the competition. I think what Parra's problem was, it was playing to the expectations of the fans. And when it came down to the big games, the team just lost their nerve. It was a psychological thing.

    yeah but technically they won in 2009 and plus in 2022 they were runner ups against a top 5 team of all time

      Good point.

      Technically, that wouldn't have been the case. In 2009, you might find that Parra only played the Storm once, where other teams that made the finals, played the Storm twice. While Parra only played them once & too, lost to the Storm. Those teams that played the Storm twice, were disadvantaged. Just say Parra finished the competition on 29 points (they finished the comp in 8th position) & only played Storm once. But the Tigers (they finished 1 point behind Parra ) finished the competition on 29 points, but played Storm twice & lost both games. That's why, in hindsight, Parra got the unfair advantage over the Tigers. Hence, why Parra weren't awarded the 2009 premiership.

    After the 1986 Grand Final, a few key things happened, Ray Price and Cronin retired, within 3-4 years all the others had retired except Kenny and Sterling. The club thought that they could do what they were doing before which is develop talent and those new players would be the same level, and it didn't happen.
    The club benefitted heavily from the Super League War and only missed the finals three times between 1997-2009, winning two minor premierships and making two grand finals.
    So to say the club has been on a slow decline is wrong. Since 1986, the club has declined, risen, declined again, risen again and is now on the decline.

    • @hutuguru81
      @hutuguru81 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My idea is the decline began when Fitzgerald was ousted, then the battle for power eroded the place, all the 80's idiots trying to own the club, bloody Spagnolo and his mob. Then it was Hayne, he was poison, he was rot inside the club, his attitude was awful and it spread to Corey Norman and Kenny Edwards.
      Brad Arthur was brilliant. he fixed the culture, but the pressure from media and fans to break the drought is immense.
      We're not in a decline, we've got Ryles to bring a new discipline, Moses, Lomax, Brown, Paulo, Penisini, and we may sign Papenhausen, ....its our last shot at it tho.

    During the Eels’ golden run and the five years prior, Parra consistently won lower grade competitions and club championships. Their juniors were incredible. At the time, Penrith really were a joke. Nobody wanted to play for the “Chocolate Soldiers” so organically, all of 5heir juniors aspired to play for the great Parramatta club. Then the pathway became blocked by the superstars at the top. Parra had become used to having this production line with little effort. That started to change in the late 80’s as Penrith’s credibility grew with coaches like Ron Willy and Tim Sheens. Astute player purchase focussing on experience, toughness and competitiveness such as Mark Levy, Chris Mortimer and Peter Kelly made the club attractive for young juniors. Parra continued their lack of pathways development as they had for the previous 15 years and were left sharing the “Golden West” with Penrith. They had become complacent. Prior to Penrith really getting their act together and becoming a powerhouse that they now are, both had ups and downs. Brian Smith did a great job of developing juniors but missed out on the illusion premiership at the final hurdle but he had the right idea. Parra hasn’t really recovered from their years of complacency with their juniors. Now they are in no position to compete with Penrith and the lure of their coaching system. Maybe Brian Smith needs to be offered a position of pathways development?

      Parramatta still produce a lot of juniors. Out of the top 30 they have this year, 12 are Parramatta juniors or came through the system. They have produced a lot of players in the past as well, if you look at other teams in the NRL, there is at least one Parramatta junior or more in their team. The problem is identifying who is going to make it at NRL level and who isn't, and it's always been a problem at the club going back 20-30 years. I also think the quality of the juniors Parramatta have are not the same level as Penrith currently. If you look at Penrith's team, who would you rather have? Brian To'o or Sean Russell?, would you rather have Tago or Penisini?, Luca Moretti over Liam Martin?.

    • @TopCrazesRL

      From what I've heard, their perceived arrogance, behaviour, and that they were a wealthy club who could buy players away from poorer clubs. A long-standing culture of dislike towards the team in the NRL community came from this.
