    Don't know how you can skip over our 2003 fairytale premiership win. Should have explained that we won premierships in 1991 and 2003 but could not sustain that success for long and explain why, for example we lost key stars and juniors to other clubs. Also Fittler was a Penrith junior and made his first grade debut with us when he was just 17 in 1989.

    2 pt 40m field goal rule has had very little impact. Not worth mentioning separately from point 1. How about the 6 again rule? Giving defending teams a 20m (22m at the time) tap and later, and extra tackle foe catching the ball on the full from a kick in their own in goal? This made for much more open, creative play when attacking in the opposition red zone rather that hitting up 5 times then a bomb with worst case, a goal line drop out if the defending fullback diffused the bomb successfully (refer 1985 GF). 10 meter rule. Automatic hand over after 6 tackles I/o a scrum. The corner post no longer being “in touch”. For a time, the Gary Jack rule stopping a fullback laying down feigning injury after fielding a clearing kick so his team could jog back into position behind the ball. Another player from the fullback’s team was forced to play the ball. It was also used when trying to run the clock down in a close game. I’ not sure if this rule still exists but we really could do with it being enforced again at times today. Sorry but yo7 have shown a lack of historical league knowledge in this video.

    During the Eels’ golden run and the five years prior, Parra consistently won lower grade competitions and club championships. Their juniors were incredible. At the time, Penrith really were a joke. Nobody wanted to play for the “Chocolate Soldiers” so organically, all of 5heir juniors aspired to play for the great Parramatta club. Then the pathway became blocked by the superstars at the top. Parra had become used to having this production line with little effort. That started to change in the late 80’s as Penrith’s credibility grew with coaches like Ron Willy and Tim Sheens. Astute player purchase focussing on experience, toughness and competitiveness such as Mark Levy, Chris Mortimer and Peter Kelly made the club attractive for young juniors. Parra continued their lack of pathways development as they had for the previous 15 years and were left sharing the “Golden West” with Penrith. They had become complacent. Prior to Penrith really getting their act together and becoming a powerhouse that they now are, both had ups and downs. Brian Smith did a great job of developing juniors but missed out on the illusion premiership at the final hurdle but he had the right idea. Parra hasn’t really recovered from their years of complacency with their juniors. Now they are in no position to compete with Penrith and the lure of their coaching system. Maybe Brian Smith needs to be offered a position of pathways development?

    • @RugbyLeagueHistory
      @RugbyLeagueHistory หลายเดือนก่อน

      Parramatta still produce a lot of juniors. Out of the top 30 they have this year, 12 are Parramatta juniors or came through the system. They have produced a lot of players in the past as well, if you look at other teams in the NRL, there is at least one Parramatta junior or more in their team. The problem is identifying who is going to make it at NRL level and who isn't, and it's always been a problem at the club going back 20-30 years. I also think the quality of the juniors Parramatta have are not the same level as Penrith currently. If you look at Penrith's team, who would you rather have? Brian To'o or Sean Russell?, would you rather have Tago or Penisini?, Luca Moretti over Liam Martin?.

  • @RugbyLeagueHistory
    @RugbyLeagueHistory 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    After the 1986 Grand Final, a few key things happened, Ray Price and Cronin retired, within 3-4 years all the others had retired except Kenny and Sterling. The club thought that they could do what they were doing before which is develop talent and those new players would be the same level, and it didn't happen. The club benefitted heavily from the Super League War and only missed the finals three times between 1997-2009, winning two minor premierships and making two grand finals. So to say the club has been on a slow decline is wrong. Since 1986, the club has declined, risen, declined again, risen again and is now on the decline.

      @@pantherz9103I don't think they needed an X Factor player, as you suggested. Especially in 2001. They were leading the competition the whole year. Whether that be in attack or defense. They were streets above the competition. I think what Parra's problem was, it was playing to the expectations of the fans. And when it came down to the big games, the team just lost their nerve. It was a psychological thing.

    Fuck that, the six again is the most ridiculous corrupt rule ever dragged in kicking and screaming to RL. No one knows what they are for, they just appear from nowhere and can completely destroy the opposition by wearing them down, QLD got 3 in a row, 18 fucking tackles 2m out from your own try line, that is absolutely match killing, no team has ever had to recover from 18 tackles in a row, that’s how pathetic the rule is. If those wankers upstairs weren’t so punch drunk from being kick in the head for 20 years they would have seen the potential for match changing decisions without blame…hmmmm or did they do it simply for that reason. It should be one extra set of six and then a penalty, too many fuckin sooks in the game who milk it now and throw tantrums trying to get their own way
