    Ok... couple of points.
You neglected to mention the real reason for the financial anomaly was pokies. All NSW clubs had pokies and could spend a fortune on player's contracts. Pokies were banned in Qld until 1992. By that time SOO was already cemented in place however.
The first game was meant as a novelty one-off game and not a best of three. That is why was played on a Tuesday night instead of the weekend prime time. Most pundits thought it would not really last.
The most grating part of your otherwise well-produced vid is your pronunciation of Maroon. It may be pronounced that way in other places, but in Qld it is Marone. Always has been, always will be.
PS: Not sure Mark Geyer would appreciate you calling him Gayer.

To create a concise video, I don't think it was necessary to explain the exact reason of the financial anomaly; what does that add for the viewer in the greater context of the video?
Second point is interesting, but its omission doesn't detract from the vid.
Finally, nitpicking of pronunciation is rich coming from (presumably based on your knowledge of SOO) an Australian.

The imbalance favouring NSW was not just that Qld players moved to Sydney for the better pay and were sometimes selected for NSW. The ghost in the machine was all of the Qlders playing in Sydney who could not displace the NSW incumbent, and were not eligible to play at all. Our finest talent, able to challenge the old guard every week in club games, and vying for national selection against them.
The maroons fielded teams that were hobbled but the NSW press and Australian selectors were happy to say it would not make a difference if Origin rules applied, because the blues were Born To Rule.
THAT is when Origin became revenge. Once we had it, there were no more lies.

By the way, in the 90s, another key player for the blues was Ricky Stuart, and for the maroons, Gordon Tallis

Loved the vid. I wish you had mentioned how close the win/lose ratio and points difference is - even after 40 years. And may I ask where your accent is from? The way you pronounced maroon, wales, record and others sounded American, or ???

Stats are wrong. Queensland won the first 5 years. First two years were a one game affair which Queensland won both in 80 and 81. In 82 ,83, 84 which is when the 3 game series format began Queensland won also . NSW didn't win until 85 and 86, then Queensland won 87, 88 and 89✌

You missed the most vital part, $$$$$pokies! NSW had poker machines but in QLD they where not allowed in pubs and clubs. This made the NSW clubs much much richer, hence all the great QLD born and breed players went to play for the big nsw clubs and making the nswrl comp the top tear rugby league competition. In 1980 NSW smashed QLD in the token best of each state contest, but it was pointed out that 6 or 7 players for the victorious NSW team were QLD juniors playing all there footy in QLD till going down south in their top grade debuts.
So they played another game with the teams decided by the players state of origin. All still expected nsw to dominate as usuall but ….. qld won, the next year they did it again and again Qld won, same the year after that! With the massive talent pool to choose from they should be able to beat Qld but the Queenslanders made it a sense of pride to run harder, hit harder, never give in, this was ever dent in the games and it got know for the hardest, toughest, and most demanding football games with all players stating that whether grand finals or local club rivalries “state of origin” was the pinnacle of the game.

Just to round of fthe history lesson, the concept of Rugby League SOO did not just materialise. Similar to League, AFL (then VFL) in the 70s had a similar problem re state representation. Interstate players representing Victoria due to their VFL club alliance and dishing out regular hidings. This was addressed in the first true SOO game between WA and Victoria in 1977. The concept was so successful that it was adopted by Rugby League in the 80s. Of course it has died in Australian Rules since due to the growth of a true national league and SOO is now synonymous with League.

If you ever want to know HOW desperate NSW is to have bragging rights over Origin, consider this...
Since the inception, Qld had been ahead on games won all the way to 2005 unless you count the Exhibition match in LA, as NSW did for many years because it helped them reach parity sooner. What is unarguable is that, even without that match in the stats, NSW finally went ahead by 1 game for the first time, and that was in 2005.
What happened next? There suddenly was a FLURRY of calls from NSW to end Origin, it had 25 great years, blah blah.
They wanted to stop when they finally had the advantage AND saw the rise of years of talent coming up. We saw through it and won the next 8 series in a row, then 3 in a row to make 11 from 12, and have extended that to 14 from 18. Currently the champs again with a new dynasty going for a 3peat, and you sacked your best coach in decades last year.
Keep talking, Blosers. We love shutting you up and WE say when this ends.
