I found this kinda randomly while trying to figure out how to draw (in Photoshop) rain effects on a window like in certain anime's. And yes Garden of Words, is the perfect example of this. Although this didn't go as much into detail as I'd like, and I'm still gonna have to search more; I did find the video to be very enjoyable. And the piano music in the background is so relaxing. Honestly, if it were up to me, all tutorials would have piano music in the background. It's the perfect learning music. Also, this video was beautify done. Such a short clip, but so much depth and emotion..

hmm.. they are definitely both very difficult to draw! I think they also require different techniques, eg. water is more of an fx animation, therefore more straight ahead animation. While hands belong more to character animation, so it would usually be animated pose to pose. I hope this makes sense, and of course, it depends on each person's strengths too!

oh no! I have never used Krita before, so I'm not sure how to do it there, but you can try exporting it as a png sequence, and hopefully it gives you the option of exporting with transparency. If not, you can put eg a green color as the background, and in AE you can color key it away, then you get a transparent BG :D I hope this helps!!

Oh yes, sorry I didn't explain it in detail~ For that one, 1. decide which direction, or where you want the rain to come from 2. draw many straight lines from that direction (make some longer, some shorter for variety) 3. draw 3 or 4 more frames like that (try to randomize it, and make sure you animate it on ones :D ) 4. loop/copy-paste those 4-5 frames of animation! :D Hopefully this helps you! please let me know if you have any more questions ^^

Hi Lorienel! I use the website Syncsketch, I think it's free. Just download your reference, load it into syncsketch and then you can draw over it (and do other cool things too :) ) Otherwise you can also load your reference into any animation software you're using, it should have a similar result :) Hope this helps!
I animated this in Toon Boom Harmony! For free software I can suggest OpenToonz. Although I have never used it, Studio Ghibli uses it (so it can definitely do highest quality animation!)
I will upload the video files onto google drive in a few weeks, and share the link! :D and you can use it wherever you like :) Sorry I won't be able to get to it sooner~

For the falling rain I would animate it on ones (every frame at 24 fps), and for the little splashes I would animate it on twos (every other frame at 24 fps) I hope this helps.
