I doubt teens/younger people in general have the money for that. And it'll be more expensive to replace an electronic one then to buy another open diff and weld it again.
Funny story, a kid at my work bought his first car for 7,000$, it was 350z with a welded diff. I told him it's not a good idea since he just got his license and the rear end would tend to kick out, but he knew better than me. Needless to say, 6 days later he drove his old Subaru to work, I was surprised so I asked why. The rear end of his 350z kicked out on him and he ran it into a curb. The passenger side of his car was toast and wheel were bent under the car terribly lmao. The insurance totaled it and didn't give him anything for the car. DONT WELD YOUR DIFF NEW DRIVERS.
I welded my Jeep's rear diff. Other than tire noise in tight turns it was barely noticeable for normal driving. Off-road it was a whole new experience, it was able to do some stuff in 2wd that it could barely pull off in 4wd before.
Didn't even mention the most important part. STAY ON THE THROTTLE AND KEEP IT LOADED IN PARKING LOTS. Don't let the axles rack back and forth by being in neutral while turning, be in gear and lightly on throttle so the tires slip instead of twisting your shit to pieces.
David Halliday I pretty sure it’s illegal everywhere haha. But it would be your own fault that you got pulled over in the first place. They couldn’t pull you over for having a welded diff because they would never know unless they saw you in a parking lot.
WilliamsLeee Yes - but those who weld diffs are usually quite eager to show off their exquisite driving skills and to "decorate" their cars accordingly. I think any policeman worth his salt will check a crashed ricer for illegal mods - like sawn off springs, cleared out catalysts or welded diffs. As someone who drives a mid-size pickup truck with a welded diff and oversize tires, other than an occasional screech and loss of traction during heavy rain, it's not a problem at all. Fun as hell in the snow.
In all seriousness though, it's because of the sheer torque of the mustangs engine. If you put a diff on that has a lot of play it will destroy it the second you step on the gas
Also some real tips: Dont use wide sticky tires on the rear, Engine braking must be approached with caution, You need to adjust the geometry and setup of the car to compensate for the lack of turn in, Have half shafts ready for when they brake. *DD a welded diff for 2 years, now on my second car with a weldy*
Not a shit ton, second hand half shafts cost between 30 and 50$. And if you dont give massive shocks to your rear end (wheel hop), they should last just fine. If you intend to actually drift the car, this *IS* a must. You will fall in love with the control it gives you.
why do half shaft break? i mean is it from drifting (clutch kicks etc) or from the skipping tire which is trying to grip? do they break often when most driving is just normal driving?
Its mostly tire skipping, like standing almost still and flooring it in second gear. Never broke something when driving normal and did not break anything mid drift as far as I remember. You should let go of the gas when you feel your rear end vibrating, thats wheel hop and that what did in all my half shafts.

Im 17 from the UK, ive got a 1978 volvo 240 estate. 2.1L 4 cylinder with 89hp (1-port single carb version ;_;) its totally stock but i dont know what road to take it with mods. At the moment im thinking either rally car or drift car. Either way i dont know whether i should weld up the differential?? i've got a shitbox Ford Ka that i can use just to get to college if i need to but still not sure if the benefits of a welded diff outweigh the disadvantages. What do you guys recommend? BTW absolutely love the volvo 240 traktor at the end haha
Josh Briggs if your going rally car go limited slip diff it will save you sliding everywhere if your gonna do drifting go locked or welded You could do either but you won't get the desired effects if you switched them Hope that helped
hmm you could sort of do both, drift cars really dont need to be low to drift so you could get some long coil overs and make the suspension nice and soft then weld the diff aswell, it rally cars tend to have quite tight diffs anyway so i think youd be fine. you could go between rally and drift with just a change of tires
god i want a 240so badly, they are so cool im in the uk too and theres this ancient 240 in tavistock i go past every time i go to my nans house, one day im gonna find who owns it and see if i can buy it off them
antsolja Thanks for the help mate. It would be a bit tricky to do both but perfectly do-able. I love 240's, insisted to my dad that he got me one as my first car (got the KA for free) and he paid £700 for it, which is very good for such an early example with the 'flat hood' and round headlights + loads of chrome etc. Go on youtube and type in "Swedishrally volvo 240" there are loads of great rally vids! And also type in "volvo 240 2jz by bjorck" the car is exactly the same as mine (but with a 2jz engine lol) if you want to get one on a shoe string budget, £600/700 is what you'll pay for a decent car with an MOT that you can drive away. I've seen some with an MOT sell for half that, or quadruple! id all depends on yeah and condition. Good luck with the hunt!
mk2escort138 Yeah i had a feeling a limited slip would be more ideal. How much would a limited slip conversion be do you know by any chance? obviously i would do the work/installation obvs. The problem is i havent got much money to lavish on it. Last time I was in a carpark with my tyre chirping and my prop shaft clunking like the tinman smashing one out some woman looked at me in disgust for driving a "broken" car, I just laughed in her face 🤣
Also funny when ya get tyres fitted n the dude stalls the car 4 times n tries to tell you your diff is broken ( after you warned him multiple times it welded) 🤣
Loving the vids lately and also loving the sound of a new GoPro
Imagine a fwd car with a welded diff 😂
bad touch
Alex critchley it will drift on it self😂😂
It's only illegal if they catch you 😎
This xD
Am I in the giveaway?

Balls Out Racing Gotta show off what my 1998 Neon can do!
"Wan't to cause yourself mad stress and anxiety? Then we have the answer for you "
Been there done that most fun ever.
so could they just buy a locking diff then un-lock it later?
2:45 my boi rudnick and his welded diff
I do skids on my bicycle all the time, no welded diff required!
didn't even stall it!
You can even drift with a bicycle. It wont be much but atleast its something :D
You are the best I watch you every day more than 3 or 4 videos I love you
Would this make my old VW camper drift with the stock 70 hp?
VW Max you can't weld a vw gearbox/diff, I've tried ;)
If it wont break the tires loose with a diff its not going to break loose with a live axle.
Flabulo You clearly dont know what a live axle is. Or a differential.
***** I know what differential is. I just fucked up on what a live axle is. So chill your ego.
Flabulo Well it will still have a diff after welding it so....
Thanks a lot, I welded the front diff on my GTR, and now it only drifts in a straight line!
*leaves comment* * Doesn't win * *cries*
Gets no likes on his comment. Cries even more.

My comment was meant for +Supra YT , who doesn't know who ricer miata is.
ricer miata is a channel dude, not the actual car
Estefano Rinaldi oh my bad youtube made me think it was me u were talking too.
Supra YT no one was talking about riced miatas i was talking about a channel called ricer miata. and learn english before commenting.
should i weld my diff on my track e36?
Vdvelde it's probably better to just save for a bit and get a locker, it's less brutal on your drivetrain and more reliable as a whole.
if its a track car dont weld it, you can get much better cornering speeds with open or an lsd
Yes, totally.
Not track car if it’s drift car be good 50/50 weight distribution but track no
Yes 100%
I love seeing peoples faces in the service station when my car chirps the inside wheel haha!
Yayyy ricer miata and haggard garage!!!
Lmao Ricer Miata at 2:45
I'm gonna weld the diff on my civic
Joke...
Instructions unclear, I welded the doors from the inside.

Let's weld our differentials!
... no?
Im 17 from the UK, ive got a 1978 volvo 240 estate. 2.1L 4 cylinder with 89hp (1-port single carb version ;_;) its totally stock but i dont know what road to take it with mods. At the moment im thinking either rally car or drift car. Either way i dont know whether i should weld up the differential?? i've got a shitbox Ford Ka that i can use just to get to college if i need to but still not sure if the benefits of a welded diff outweigh the disadvantages.
What do you guys recommend? BTW absolutely love the volvo 240 traktor at the end haha
Josh Briggs if your going rally car go limited slip diff it will save you sliding everywhere if your gonna do drifting go locked or welded
You could do either but you won't get the desired effects if you switched them
Hope that helped
hmm you could sort of do both, drift cars really dont need to be low to drift so you could get some long coil overs and make the suspension nice and soft then weld the diff aswell, it rally cars tend to have quite tight diffs anyway so i think youd be fine.
you could go between rally and drift with just a change of tires
god i want a 240so badly, they are so cool im in the uk too and theres this ancient 240 in tavistock i go past every time i go to my nans house, one day im gonna find who owns it and see if i can buy it off them
antsolja Thanks for the help mate. And also type in "volvo 240 2jz by bjorck" the car is exactly the same as mine (but with a 2jz engine lol)
if you want to get one on a shoe string budget, £600/700 is what you'll pay for a decent car with an MOT that you can drive away.
And i need to get some spotlights to fit on the front first hahaha
Don't daily the welded diff. Not because it's awful, but because you shouldn't daily project cars. Or regularly drift dailies, for that matter.
Naaah, I've been doing this for years now. It's fun.
Car throttle, you guys are awesome. Keep making videos. Love the channel.
