      My brother just bought the D8 and was wondering about the custom list limitation to just 8 PIDs. I think it should be more even if the refresh rate is slow, we techs understand that refresh rates get slow. Also; the graph option is not always visible and only gives combine at 8 PIDs. I think it was mentioned that if it was fewer PIDs; it would give that option to graph individually. I think the other option which a lot of scanners allow is the custom graphing from the custom list. For instance I want to see the O2 sensors for short and long trims separate in two combined graphs, etc. So far this tool is faster than my Launch Pad II. I will keep using this tool and see; your reply gives hope that you listen to the community. Thank you!

    Thank you! Finally a video that shows how these handle live data like as if you were diagnosing a drivability problem and not just using these as glorified code readers! I need a new scantool. My Autel MS906bt is just way too slow. I was deciding between the Launch X431 V+ PRO and the XTool D9 Pro. The Launch has pretty decent live data viewing with lots of graphs and I never saw how these Xtool's handled more in depth live data. The scaling issue you're showing is annoying but hopefully that'll get fixed or at least I'm pretty sure I could work around it. I think I'm leaning towards the XTool D9 Pro. Thanks for your videos you have on both platforms. I watched quite a few of them and they really made me feel better about making a decision. I gave ya a sub!

      @@737mechanic I hear ya there. I'm mainly using my Autel MS906bt. It's graphing is annoying but okay if you're only interested in one graph. But in general it really sucks for data captures and reviewing data after your road test. When I need to do that I usually just have the PIDs as text then record the screen with my GoPro and review the frames of the footage rather than trying to use the Autel...
      Have you done a Ford power balance test with your XTool? How does it fare to the videos you made of your Launch and your Autel? I work on a LOT of Fords and reach for that test a lot. But unfortunately my Autel is just like the video you made with yours. Horribly slow sample rate for that test. The video you made showing that test on your Launch had a pretty decent sample rate. Enough to catch one time misfires. Really wondering how the XTool compares to that.

    I have contacted Xtool about the O2 sensor scale. They replied and said they would be optimizing the scale in the near future. It may help for others to voice their concerns over the issue. As you have noted, it's pretty useless in the 20v or 16v scale.

      Good to hear and you are right the more people that complain the quicker it will get fixed.

      @gearbox387 I didn't notice any decline in sampling rate whether I had 1 or 6 pulled up. I think with that few it is plenty fast enough to give a fast sampling rate.

    • @calholli
      @calholli ปีที่แล้ว

      @gearbox387 I did notice on another video, a guy was using the old expensive snap-on and he was graphing several pids, running 4 channels on the built in scope, and also trying to screen record while bouncing back and forth between the live data and the scope: and it kept glitching and crashing the screen record. So there's no doubt that they can bottle neck when doing too many things at once.
      Maybe that's why they only limited it to 6 graphs.. I know on an older 97 F150, my D8 graphing and live data seemed to be much slower, but on a 2010 Dodge Nitro, it was fine. So it depends on what car you're jacked into also. AND, I think it can drag it down a little depending on what units you are using; I think it is natively programmed for metric units, so when you select imperial units, it has to process the conversion-- so that's just another layer of load that can contribute to slowing it down. So it all depends on the situation really.

      @davidp7163 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edit: I posted to soon, I guess its always had the auto adjust feature.
      I just got one (fully updated) and checked. It seems default is now 0-5v and cannot be altered manually. Min and Max still do the same and do not adjust the scale (I think it would be great if it did). What it does do tho is auto scales if the range goes over 5, it will adjust higher automatically and lower automatically depending on what is in the graph range.
      The points per second is also a bit slow compared to Autel. Would be great if XTool doubled the points per second data collection, or maybe gave an ability to adjust it.

  • @calholli
    @calholli ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Excellent video!!.. I knew you could teach me some things. lol. That "Graph" button must have been an upgrade/ update. Because when I first got it (over a year ago now)-- I searched through it several times, and the "combine" button is all I could find (maybe I missed it). So that's a LOT better than I had first discovered back then, and I've never had to use graphs since then, other than 1 at a time. But showing 6 graphs at once is pretty nice; you can do a lot with that.
    I agree about the 0 to 1v scale on the 02 sensors. Even if they just got it down to 0 to 5v scale, it would be much better; especially on a full screen graph. So the next time I'm using it, I'll do a write up about that needing to be changed. If we all report it as an issue, they will probably get it fixed, they seem to be good at that once an issue is identified.
    Maybe it was just the fact that you first made a custom list-- and THEN that graph button will be there. See before, I was only selecting a few pids from the entire list -- and I think "combine" is the only button there. But once you make a smaller custom list, THEN the "graph" button shows up. Which makes sense now that I think about it. You can't "graph the entire live data pid list at once, so that's why the option wasn't there.
    So that's the key distinction: always make a little "custom" list of what you're looking at first, and the graph it. Vs simply checking the box of a few pids in the full list, and trying to go straight to a graph from there.
    edit:
    Oh I see: now it looks like they changed it and took the "combine" button away from the main list altogether- (1:40)_ - that way it forces you to make a "custom" list first -- and then your graphing options are both there.
    I'm super happy with buying this thing; but just by watching videos with the Thinktool Pro, you can see that it's just better in a few ways-- which I had see the price drop to $9xx at once point-- and it would have totally been worth the extra $200 to get it.
    Thanks for the video.. sorry for all the rambling, I was thinking out loud as I typed it. I learned a lot. cheers.

      @calholli ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThunderbirdRocket Yes.. but only with a few things. But it also costs quite a bit more. D8 just got updated with topology now, and it's excellent and copying keys and pulling codes for weird keys. It's hard to beat the D8 for the money though. I"ve seen it go down to as low as five-fifty sometimes. Thinktool pro is usually double that.
