  • This recipe was originally featured in a previous « Living La Vie » episode and here I’ve separated it to make it easier for you foodies to find it!
    These black eggs are not only gorgeous, they are also amazingly delicious and the perfect filling treat for busy people. The only down side is they’ll be devoured very quickly and you’ll have to do this recipe over and over and over again.
    Tips: if you have leftover balsamic onions in your jar once your eggs are done, use them to spice up your sandwiches or as a coating to any meal - they make everything better. Cheers!
    Best pickled eggs recipe ever! 😜

    I pickled eggs with pomegranate balsamic several weeks ago, though I wasn't sure at the time that I could, but they are so wonderfully delicious, I doubt I'll ever go back to the other ways I've used in the past.

    i only got half way through your video before i started making a batch of them for myself. I pickled 40 eggs yesterday using Franks hot sauce and a dab of sugar, when i was digging through the cupboard i saw the balsamic vinegar and thought, "hmmmmm, i wonder if..." Today this video popped up in my recommended and i knew it was fate😍

    Ok the my verdict is in, first batch I did hot sauce (Frank's) and they were good, I saw this video and so I tried the balsamic vinegar and onions, but then I added some spices and other things I thought I would like and just made the whole concoction cloudy and unpacked to look at, great flavor and onions crisp and tasty, third batch eggs and sausage in cayenne pepper and vinegar, not all that, so I came back to pure balsamic vinegar and eggs, two weeks later(that's today) I open the jar, and you see the swirl lines in the egg, cut in half and see how the colors and flavor have impregnated into, you but and the flavor is sweet savory and mellow, I think this is my favorite for now, thank you for sharing

    This is a really cool recipe in a couple ways. First, it is a new style of picked egg I have not seen, very cool. Second, it adds a very nice visual element. May I ask if this is an original recipe, or where it comes from? Thank you Mrs. Wigglesworth!

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! Glad you like it. Yes, it is an original. One of my favourite things is playing with different vinegars and spices when I pickle my eggs. I put this one together around last Halloween because I was looking to find ways to get themed coloured eggs (black & orange). The balsamic recipe results were so tasty that I had to share it. 🤗 Cheers!

    Do you add the eggs to.the brine while it's still hot or let it cool first? Also, once you eat the eggs can you reuse the brine to make another batch?

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I personally let it cool a bit before adding the eggs. And yes, it is possible to reuse the brine and some people do although I don’t (because the eggs suck up a lot of the vinegar during the pickling process and you end up with a less flavourful brine in the end.) Hope this helps!

  • @FrikInCasualMode
    @FrikInCasualMode 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Aw, heck. I would love to make this recipe, but balsamic vinegar is hard to find in stores in my area - thus very expensive compared to white vinegar. Guess I'm stuck with regular and apple vinegars.

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely - you have that choice - if you choose to, make sure your brine is fully cooled by the time you pour it in your jar so to avoid further hardening of the eggs. Hope you enjoy! 🤗

  • @cb725
    @cb725 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I reuse the mixture for one more batch of eggs after?

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You can try - I’ve seen people do it. Personally I tried it once and found the taste wasn’t as pronounced. I wouldn’t do it again. The egg absorbs a lot of the vinegar during the pickling process, which leaves you with a brine that won’t be as flavourful the second time around. Hope this helps!

  • @candypantstam
    @candypantstam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you reuse the balsamic brine?

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve seen some people reusing the brine when they make their own pickled egg recipe but my personal experience is that the eggs absorb most of the flavour and you’re left with a subpar, somewhat flavourless brine in the end if you try to reuse it. They reuse it in bars but they keep adding up vinegar to the brine to keep it strong. I would thing the same applies for the balsamic recipe, although I haven’t tried reusing it myself...hope this helps!

    Janie, what was the source of the music?

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave! Good question- all of the soundtracks in these videos are from the iMovie app on my phone, which is what I used to film and put these videos together back when I was interested in learning about filming and editing (yes, you probably guessed that I’m not a pro filmmaker 🤓) . This was in the iMovie soundtracks section called POP and I believe it was called “springtime”. Hope this answers your question 🙂

    Can you reuse the liquid?

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Personally I don’t. The eggs absorb some of the vinegar during the picking process, which leaves you with a weaker, much less flavourful brine once you’re done eating the eggs. You can try but I’m quite certain you’ll come with a similar conclusion. I hope this helps!

  • @joebarbs00
    @joebarbs00 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like you used way more than 200ml of balsamic vinegar. Is 200 ml correct?

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats right! Along with 200 ml of water. All together with your onion. You’re right - it does look like a lot more liquid once the eggs are in the jar as well 🙂 hope you enjoy them as much as I do! ✨

    • @joebarbs00
      @joebarbs00 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janiewigglesworth thanks for the response. I’m still a little confused. From the video it looks like you first poured in 200 ml of water into the pot. And then you poured in what looked like maybe 400 ml of balsamic vinegar into the pot. But your ingredients say 200 ml of water and 200 ml of balsamic.

    • @janiewigglesworth
      @janiewigglesworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This measuring cup you see me pouring the liquids with contains a total of 250 ml (1 cup). 3/4 of it (or 200ml) is filled with the vinegar. It may appear like there was not as much water - it is because I edited the video in a way where I I was already halfway into pouring it into the pan. The recipe here is definitely half water and half vinegar. Of course feel free to make your own variations - experimentation is the most fun part of things after all 😉
