Nice sandbar, I have caught 6 so far in 2 trips, with about 5-6 break offs. Decided to start tagging them for noaa they are incredible fun to catch. Good luck running into the resident Rough tail rays, they are a lot of work to reel in. So far biggest one I landed was 5 feet in width, they are tackle busters

Passissmokes the rays a pain to deal with but very cool fish. I went yesterday and landed 3 rays. My dad lost one shark, it hit through 50 pound steel leader. Three questions for you.. What do you use for terminal tackle, who do you contact for the tagging information, do you think the shark bite is over?? Tight lines!

Handberrydea hey yeah rays suck, i have lost plenty of rigs to them. Once they hit the last lip their full weight is on the rigs...making it nearly impossible to land them unless you can get close enough to grab the leader. I have talked to some well known shark fisherman, that used to do beach charters for them over the years. He told me they are usually around from june to the middle of September...however with water warming up I would assume they will be around longer. For terminal tackle rig wise, I buy my rigs off of sharkfishingworldwide.co, i like them a lot the guys who make them actively shark fish in the south...so they are quality and battle tested rigs. However I have caught some dusky sharks on just 120 pound mono connected to 10/0 Mustad circle hook, i did this to save the cost of rigs because the rays were in thick that day. As for the tags, go on Noaa there is an email you can contact them requesting tags, sometimes best to call them if they don’t respond. Also here sandbar sharks/dusky/sandtigers are what we commonly come across in the surf...so extra extra care must be taken as they are endangered. You have a good platform, so if you start really actively fish for them just make sure to keep them in the water as much as possible in case any dec people are watching. Numerous fines have been given out. Also grab bolt cutters, in case you need to cut a hook. Im still a rookie, but I have than few years if research while constantly talking to the shark pros, so any other questions let me know

Passissmokes I got bolt cutters for my last trip and I’m trying to learn more about how to do it the right way. Thanks for dropping this knowledge on me dude. I’ll work on better fish handling in the future. Tight lines!

There must be a good number of those rascals there, to get bites so soon after getting bit off. I thought that last one was going to spool you too, haha.

    AMAZING !!!
Trout one day ... Sharks the Next !!
Even though a smallish Shark, I bet that there would have been BIGGER ones out there as well ....
Nicely done with Catch and Release !!!

I’ll be back for a bigger one even though my wife is already mad at me for landing the small one by myself. I’m going again tomorrow night with my dad. You ever catch a shark in your neck of the woods?

Thanks man, after this video I was on the fence. But I went back yesterday and caught 3 fish (not sharks) that were even scarier. I’ll drop that video within the next week. You won’t catch me swimming at Jones beach any time soon lol.
