Revitalized Historic Jones Beach Oceanfront property
celebrates Grand Opening
WANTAGH, NY, JUNE 7, 2019 - Following a revitalization of the former Marine Dining Room at the West Bathhouse at Jones Beach, Long Island’s newest premier oceanfront dining and special occasion venue Gatsby on the Ocean has emerged and celebrated its official grand opening today with a ribbon-cutting on the East Patio.
Joe Vitrano, J&B Restaurant Partners president, Dawn Petite, chief operating officer and officials of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, were on hand to welcome attendees and provide a first look at the elegant, sophisticated second floor venue with unsurpassed views of the Atlantic Ocean. Among the dignitaries at the ribbon cutting were Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, and Philip A. Berdolt, Suffolk County Parks, Recreation and Conservation commissioner. Champagne and passed hors d’oeuvres were served to all of the guests.
“We are thrilled to bring the state’s vision to life for this exquisite property with Gatsby on the Ocean,” commented Vitrano. “Our concept was carefully curated to highlight the 1930s aesthetic while offering an exceptional culinary and social experience. We look forward to welcoming Long Islanders to this premier oceanfront destination, whether it’s for a casual lunch, dinner or a grand wedding or private event.”
“We are excited that J&B Restaurant Partners is our partner and opening the Gatsby on the Ocean Restaurant and Catering Facility,” said George Gorman, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation regional director. “They have presented an exciting vision and have put together a great team and an outstanding menu, as well as, expanded operating hours and services, which will serve our park visitors and their customers well.”
Originally opened in 1931, the West Bathhouse is steeped in Robert Moses-era history, which has been incorporated into the design of Gatsby on the Ocean. Complete with art deco touches and furnishings reminiscent of a bygone time period, the 5,500 square-foot interior comfortably seats up to 260 people, with exterior patios offering breathtaking views for 75 guests. Gatsby on the Ocean also features a bridal suite and groom’s lounge, which may serve as a private dining or event locale for up to 20 attendees. Adding to the historical charm are acknowledgements of the venue’s previous use - the bridal suite once served as Robert Moses’ personal office and the groom’s lounge was his conference room.

So tragic, this is just a greedy company selling their company. The plastic chairs outside and the windows, NO. This is not in it's original splendor.
It be cool if they can bring back the 1930s prices too! 😂
Nice work keeping it to the original dining room. My sister worked at the JB Restaurant as a waitress in the 60s - she was chosen to wait on Robert Moses when he frequented. I just talked with her - she advises Gatsby’s to hire seasoned waitresses in addition to college kids. The East Bath should be an ultimate Deli with carving stations. Keep the hot dogs and chowder below. Open the pool - maybe water slide if safe. I worked at JB seven years, supervisor of Field 6. I told my crew make believe everyone was seeing Field 6 at JB for the first time and make it the best.
I love JB..been going since early 60s..from Queens.. great beach & great joint..was there today..
@@pgroove163 That’s great you were just there! The West End Beaches have been reconfigured. Where WEB 2 was there’s a yuuuge $25M climate change science center. There’s a new WEB 2 facility further west and WEB 1 has been decommissioned as the old nature center.
