When creating World XI, Prem XI or whatever it may be, it's really important to understand people's weighting behind certain factors. I personally, can never understand why people put so much emphasis and weight on trophies. Football is all about winning, obviously. But when it comes down to individuals, surely trophies won doesn't equate to individual brilliance/ability. For example, you could argue that Ronaldo helped United win more titles, which is the same as saying he won them X amount of points. Salah has potentially won Liverpool more points, but less titles, due to the nature of the different seasons. Ronaldo is in my XI, but the reasoning of Trophies for me doesn't hold enough validity. For others it might which is why understanding people's weightings towards those factors is so important.

As is often the case in these discussions, nostalgia is playing a very big role. The team is largely centred around a group of players who played in the same era and are mostly English. These same players played together and couldn't even reach a semi final at a major international tournament and English clubs tended to win the Champions League every 4-5 years. They just dominated the Prem at a time where it was a lot weaker. KDB isn't even in the Gerrard/Lampard debate, he's in the best PL player of all time debate. Rory said "do you know what Vieira did for that Arsenal team?", when KDB is the star of a better, far more consistent with and which had greater longevity.
Well, it is called EPL All-time 11..yet you are talking of international tournaments. And then, you are talking of EPL being weaker. Its actually weaker now more than ever. It's just City alone with no one else. Do you know what EPL was like between 1998-2008?? Wenger's Arsenal, Mourinho's Chelsea, and Fergie's United. This was the era that sold EPL to the world and the competition was like nothing ever seen. Lads be thinking EPL is competitive now, yet the competition is at the bottom and around 4th-7th. EPL is very weak over the last decade, and thats why even Leicester managed to pull a miracle. People would throw in Klopp's Liverpool, but it baffles me how that so called great team has won one EPL title since Klopp arrived in 2014. Thats a decade with only one title. Lol.
Ive never seen Gerrard or Lampard get anywhere near Patrick Vieira in midfield battle when we come up against them. Gerrard got owned in the fa cup final and ghosted 2001. The lack of parameters the pair of you have set make this such a difficult team to build. Before choosing any all time prem XI there are rules that have to be set (eg minimum amount of seasons played, trophies won etc). In particular, I would argue you can only pick players that no longer play in the league (whether retired or out of prime). Choosing current players bring too many problems to the table. Also, choosing an all time XI in a 433 when for at least two thirds of Prem history have been played in 442 means removing so many quality players from the team because their roles no longer exist.
@danielsmart8013 because you can't stand a player with ZERO leagues is the best. Shows how shite the others are the fact he's number 1 and always will be.

Also the Premier League record for number of Clean Sheets in a season is Cech with 24 (only 3 more than Nige) and Cech had the best defence the league has ever seen that year. Also if you add the Clean Sheets for the 3 years Martyn was playing in Div1 before the Premier League started, Martyn would now be 2nd in the PL all time Clean Sheets Table. Martyn was also voted PFA Keeper of the year 3 years running. All while not playing for a Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea,Liverpool etc who all had better defences and their keepers had less to do a lot of the time, so for Nige to still be comparable in stats speaks volumes to me. Yes he didn’t win anything unfortunately but I always feel that’s more of a team achievement, but in terms of ability, I always say that Nigel Martyn is up there with the greatest ever Premier League Keepers, at least Top 5 in terms of ability alone.

It’s like comparing old to new centre backs aswell, they need to be good with their feet otherwise they might not be in the team, u can be one of the best defenders in the world but if u can’t play it round the back comfortably certain managers will prefer someone weaker defensively to u cus it’s more important for how they play
Gk - Van der Sar . ( because he was awesome at Fulham too)
Lb - Evra (but cant argue with Cole)
Rb - Neville (so underrated)
Lcb - Rio Ferdinand ( for me the best and him n Vidic best partnership )
Rcb - Adams (but Stam, Kompany, Van Djik, and all close )
Cm - Keane
Cm - Lampard
Cam - Cantona
Lw - Henry
St - Rooney
Rw - Ronaldo
honourable mention : de Gea, Yaya, De Bryne, Kane , Fabs , Bergkamp, Giggs, Bale, Kante, Viera, Bergkamp, Suárez, Agüero, Sala and Scholea.
nostalgia came into play here, KDB is the best midfielder of the PL era
Your comment is recency bias.
@@SteveAustin-zv1nn probably a mixture of both, but city are going to win 4 in a row (never been done) and a treble last year and he has been their best player.

I love these two battling out on intellectual football debates. New to he channel. Just watched two videos and the debates are solid ASF.😎
For how long these players did it in the PL I kinda agree with this team… I think if you’re discussing peak id make changes 100% but as longevity I cant disrespect this team one bit apart from maybe Shearer/Rooney debate
The KDB disrespect is laughable, KDB is not only in the team, he is better than Gerrard, Lampard and all of them. More non penalty goals and assists in a season than any other midfielder. English bias as alway, Gerrard is potato midfielder, but did not have half the ability KDB does.
Not one City player in the team either, probably the strongest side ever in in the Prem, nostalgia, club bias and english bias 😂
Not having balon dor winning cr7 is a weird take

As good as he was, having Kante in is howler. I think that's only actual 'mistake'. The rest could be down to personal preference and the way/metrics you go about rating players.
Kante is just better than any other DM. Kante alone is better than most DM partnerships combined.

Anyone that picks Kante over Vieira is one of three things:
- They didn't watch Vieira play
- They are a Chelsea fan
- They have less ball knowledge than my grandma and should pick another sport to watch from now on.
@@otto_jkBuesquets,Casemiro,Makalele>kante
Ferdinand has got so much better since he retired. He very rarely carried the ball into midfield and he got embarrassed a hell of a lot defensively. No social media has done him wonders
Couldn't agree more. I recall him getting absolutely twisted up by some of the premier league's cannon fodder, with Vidic often bailing him out.

Defence is all about partnerships. The best defensive partnerships are: Ivan-Carv-Terry-Cole
&
Neville-Rio-Vidic-Evra
The all-time XI should have a defence of one of those backlines. You can't combine them because you would be disregarding the partnerships.
4231: Henry
Hazard - De Bruyne - Ronaldo
Lampard Scholes
Cole Terry Stam Walker
Cech
BS. Rio is better than Stam, Neville is the prem RB GOAT, Gerrard easily makes the midfield and stats wise its hard to pick prem Ronaldo over prem Salah

@@MBison-vm6gq Stam was a back to back UEFA Defender OTY winner. In terms of PL then Rio should get in ahead of him. But imo the two best CBs this league has ever had are Terry & Stam
@@lawrencebaker1811 i agree, they are the two best PL wingers
@RJ-st2fq yeah I hear the Stam argument but it's the same reason I'd take Salah over Ronaldo or Hazard. It's Premier League. If we were talking overall then this argument gets 100 times harder 😂
Didn’t even mention Van der Sar keeping 14 clean sheets in a row. Set a record which beat Cech’s 10
Awesome video, love stuff like this! Now I am biased but Nigel Martyn has definitely got to be in with a shout. 21 Clean Sheets in a season (97-98 with 24 in all competitions) while not playing for a “top” team.
So my all time XI would be
GK. Martyn
RB. Walker
CB. Ferdinand
CB. Terry
LB. Cole
CDM. Kante
RCM. De Bruyne
LAM. Lampard
RW. Ronaldo
LW. Henry
ST. Kane
However the team that is made in this video is also correct.
great to have you guys together again ...started to get a bit worried there :))) . great video you 2, like always!
If you're considering ability, as well as achievement, and actual positions players played in, this team should justifiably not look much different from:
Cech; G. Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, A. Cole; Ronaldo, Vieira, Gerrard, Henry; Rooney, Cantona
Rory is just jealous because KDB left Chelsea and went on to blossom at City. No Chelsea player in history in even close to De Bruyne in Premier League lagacy. Both KDB and Chelsea literally have 5 EPL each only that the Belgian did it in only 8 seasons. Live with that.
Not even a mention of Carvalho at CB??? For me the two would be Terry and Ferdinand, but cmon Carvalho was a monster
Kane has scored more goals than Rooney in 8 less seasons playing at a team nowhere near United's levels.
Rooney is an amazing player but definitely behind Kane and even Shearer as a No.9
