Her behaviour was impeccable. Quiet, polite...It was her morals and what she cared about that was deplorable.
There is this "blink and you miss it" look on Ben Stone's face at 6:32 where you can tell he is amused by her and possibly even a little relieved that he convinced her that she had in fact done something wrong.
I'm actually happy that he managed to do that literally. Managed to prove too in a different way that dreams don't come true and it's not worth it. Way to go Kaplan university again. 👏

I was very disappointed that those early episodes were not on Peacock. That was the reason I bought it in the first place.
I actually asked the network and they said they alternate between the early and later seasons.
If they can upload EVERY SVU season, they can certainly upload all of seasons for L&O!

great ending and music in this. I love the old seasons. By far the best.

Interesting to see how they were working out the formula for the series. Feels a bit 80’s versus 90’s here in atmosphere. They also hadn’t built out the courtroom set yet, blank walls and lighting a bit off. But was cool to see Patricia Clarkson’s character- keeps you guessing and entertained.
They actually shot inside a real courtroom for the first five seasons. This scene was shot inside one of the rooms of the Tweed Courthouse
the original Law and order was the best of the various flavors. I kinda got tired of SVU.
I remember this episode. I think the character of the high society madam was based on Sidney Biddell Barrows who was dubbed "The Mayflower Madam" by the newspapers.

I would have thrown the book at her. Blatant disregard for life; and an abundance of arrogance.
But she is: white, elegant, millionaire, well connected, female, and gorgeous, Will you risk acquittal? also, she appears to become aware of the cruelty of her action, or she is a pretty good actress, underscoring the first point in both cases.

Generally, yes, after the trial ends.
Jurors can talk to the media (generally), and disclose their own thoughts and opinions; they just can’t discuss the details of the jury deliberations

where is this courtroom, in a refurbished barn? i say this because i have been in a barn turned into an opera house and it legit had walls and floors just like this and it is kinda janky looking.

This is inside one of the courtrooms in the Tweed Courthouse. Back in the early seasons of L&O, they filmed inside actual courthouses before building one on set

It may be a prostitution ring but it brings to mind large corporations with "acceptable losses" in terms of workers and customers.

Why are you thanking God for being the first to comment? Is being first some kind of achievement, or something? I don't understand why people get some kind of validation, and feel like they achieved something from being the first to comment on a TH-cam video. Is it really that much of an accomplishment? Most comments I see of people saying they were first to comment on a video, they just comment they were first, and comment NOTHING about the video. What is the purpose? I didn't know that Old Man Schiff knew how to laugh. I always saw him as old and worn out, devoid of visual affect.
He had his moments. I mean, you have to kind of give him a bit of a break, managing all his juniors and D.A.s was basically like trying to manage a high-profile daycare. One could imagine the stress.
Remember also, his character had a wife that was dealing with health problems, at least toward the end of his time on the series. I believe she died.
Even today (2024), most medical insurance does not pay for much, if any, psychotherapy. I can't imagine that early 90s insurance did.
Editing of this episode is grounds for appeal. After the question posed at 5:12, check out the next shot of the judge. It's pretty clear he's just taken what we'll call a "personal interest" in this case and should have recused himself. You just know that after banging his gavel he went straight to the clinic.
Yes indeed. I was also noticing how Stone's voice started shaking with anger, sounding almost as if he was about to cry.
Or the question just never occurred to anyone in the courtroom except Stone - which is why it damned the defendant and piqued everyone's interest, the judge included.
