@S.K I talk a little bit about that in this video if you want a more detailed answer: th-cam.com/video/5xIA5DrPmuA/w-d-xo.html. Hello I had a question, how do the GED classes work? Like can you straight up go ahead and take the other tests and then take the math test or are they all at once? Thank you. I'm signing up Monday and nervous and happy at the same time :) I have a lot of struggle in math but know I can do it! Thank you 🙏🏻
We can get better at anything we practice. Focus on the skills in this series - do a LOT of Khan academy practice until you feel comfortable with those skills.
My score on math was a 135 😭 and it was only like that because I didn’t put a whole lot of studying into math in the first place 🤷🏽♀️ I figured since I was fresh out of school I’d be fine but I guess not. I’ll definitely get it this time though.
I failed by two points and my connection was messing up on the last 4. cried the whole day, because I couldn’t believe I was so close to finally having it done and over it. Glad I’m not the only person.
Do your best and try to relax. If you are feeling scared it makes it hard to think, so take some deep breaths. If you don’t pass, at least you will get some information about what you need to work on. Good luck!
if we only study the material on this video can we still pass? i'm not looking to get a high score since i don't care to go to college once i've completed my high school equivalency, i just want to pass so i can get a job.
There are four math videos about the four math domains that appear on the test - this is one of them! Here is the playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLC2qah-KnWmIkHv35FQJLrD5YMG6-2W34.html If you are comfortable with the topics I mention, you should be able to reach that 145 score on the math exam!
@@queensherpa98 No, not at all. It may mean that you will need to take a remedial math class when you begin. It also might mean that a more selective school might not accept you. But again, all universities are different, so if you are interested in somewhere specific you should contact the admissions department and ask them what their stance is on the GED and what scores they are looking for.
I'm doomed. I have been in special education all my life. regardless of how i was able to pass every GED test except math, twice! I passed them all once except math. Then they revised the test and i lost all my credits. So i had to take them all again and i passed them all but math. It's frustrating! Please any help would be appreciated.
I hear you, that sounds really frustrating. Congrats on passing the first three subjects - that's no small accomplishment! Can you tell me a little more about your study strategy for math so far? Maybe there are some changes I can suggest to get you on the right path.
That happened to me as well. Now I have my test in 17 days and this time I plan on passing it all. I hope you have overcome this since you posted but if not, don’t be discouraged. I’m 26 now and have a new vision on what to do with my life and this is the only thing in my way to get there. Use your goals as fuel to power through it bud. You are capable of anything you set your mind to. Special classes or not, you can overcome this.
I just took my math test today and failed with a 142. Last time it was a 143. How do I know what I’m doing wrong? I studied from using khan academy (recommended to me) and I feel like they aren’t teaching it properly
Khan Academy is a great resource but it's just ONE resource - I also recommend using some of the GED prep materials like the Kaplan book so you can practice the types of questions on the test. You are close to passing - check your score report on the GED.com website to see what it is that you need to work on. You've got this!
@@michellerevisited I told my mom about the score and she said she just bought me the Kaplan GED plus 2020 with 2 free tests. I have to wait 60 days to retake the next test so while I wait I will use the book! I’ve been trying so many sources to see and I felt so confident taking the test and then finding out I didn’t pass :( thank you for you’re advise! I’m really glad I found you ☺️
The tests may be a little different, but math in general will be the same. You might want to look at HiSET specifically to confirm what you'll need to know. Most of my experience is in working with GED students.
Hello I had a question, how do the GED classes work? Like can you straight up go ahead and take the other tests and then take the math test or are they all at once? Thank you. I'm signing up Monday and nervous and happy at the same time :) I have a lot of struggle in math but know I can do it! Thank you 🙏🏻
You can take the tests individually - and I recommend taking no more than two at a time because they are long! All GED classes are different, so you can ask your program how they operate. But you don’t need to be ready to pass every subject to sign up for the subject tests you are ready for. Good luck!
@@michellerevisited okay that's so cool! Thank you for letting me know :) I will definitely be asking the program I go for some info, thank you again! 🤍🤍🤍🤍
I don't feel confident in math and I just started. If I fail math do you think I should do some academic upgrading like math 10-1, 20-1 and 30-1? I will get a lot of assistance with it if I do.
I’m not familiar with those classifications, but to pass what you need is what is typically taught in grades 6-8 in the US. Taking the GED Ready practice tests are a great place to start because that will give you a list of specific skills to work on. Good luck!
That depends on where you hope to attend. Some four year universities may not accept you with that score. You might choose to attend a community college where you could take remedial classes or look for adult education programs in your community to brush up on skills before attending college. Be mindful that remedial courses are usually not credit bearing, which means they may not go towards the requirements for earning a degree.
@@michellerevisited So I haven’t made up my mind yet, but I am most likely going to go to a community college to get an associates for dental hygiene. If I’m not mistaken requires math 10, which to my understanding is pretty base-line algebra mostly.
@@ASAPpetinfo If you know where you want to go, you should speak to the admissions department about what will happen depending on different score options. They can give you more specific advice.
no you don't.. these things aren't there in the exam topics all u need to do is just focus while understanding and not get carried away by time and more practise of cause and that way u will score higher
I was just curious to know how the ged math is scored because to be honest with you i took the test awhile back passed everything else except math guessed every answer did’nt work out one problem on the math exam and scored 141 four points shy of passing so i wanted know how it is scored thank you
Like all of these kind of standardized tests, different questions are weighted differently. In the videos in this series I go through the types of questions you need to get correct to pass - unofficial word is that it's only about 40% of the test. This is because there are questions that are much harder so that there can be different levels of passing. If you were particularly lucky it's not totally out of the realm of possibility to get 30% or so correct which probably put you in that realm of score. With a little work I'm sure you could pass!
If you are really unsure with your math skills, go to Khan Academy and select the 6th grade math course. Do the challenge test to see how much you know. If that level seems easy, move up to 7. If it seems hard, start with that course. You don’t need much more than the 8th grade skills to pass the GED.
The general Kaplan GED prep book is a good place to start - check the link in the video description. I also recommend the free resources on Khan Academy. Good luck!
All colleges are different! I would speak to someone in admissions where you are hoping to attend. However, community college is probably going to be a better fit with 145s as you would likely need to take some remediation classes first for math and writing.
Good question. No, you need to have a base line of skills in all four categories in order to pass - check out the other three categories in this playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PLC2qah-KnWmIkHv35FQJLrD5YMG6-2W34.html
College admissions is usually "holistic" - meaning that they consider a lot of different factors when deciding who they will admit. Also, every college is different! That's why I recommend that you call the admissions department where you are hoping to attend and ask them what scores they would like to see. Usually if you're not scoring in the 165 range, you are not ready to do college level math. BUT that doesn't mean you can't go to college - it might mean that they will require you to take some remedial classes when you get there, depending on what your major and goals are.
@@michellerevisited but honestly it is unfair, for exam the math required for the ged may be the math that some college majors people want to take don't have, let's say someone's college major only had calculus math, and the ged math doesn't involve in any calculus, so in that case they would have no right to put a student down and put them in remedial classes or not accept them for there scores. like the major i want to take only offers calculus level 1, and i have reviewed on college level calculus 1 on khan academy and i already know how it works and i find it reasonable enough, so that means it should be acceptable for most students to be going into college with low ged scores, because you can't rely on not being ready for college level math when for example a major a student wants to take doesn't involve any of the GED math and it only involves in a math that the student already finds reasonable to work with.
@@Forever-gd7vs The skills on the GED are foundational for more advanced classes like calculus. In order to do the computation required in a calculus class, it's important to have the algebra and arithmetic skills that are evaluated on the GED test. I wouldn't assume that colleges won't accept you or that you will have to take remedial classes. I would call the admissions departments and ask questions about what they require. Every college has different standards for admissions. Colleges are selective institutions that don't accept every person who applies - if you want to attend a certain college, you need to meet the admission criteria. If their criteria is that you reach a certain score on the GED (or SAT, for that matter), you can prepare to improve your scores or you can choose to pursue another school.
I really want to get a bachelor degree in criminal justice, and I want to receive my GED Diploma at age 16. Do you think GED will prepare students with any degree that they are studying?
The GED is series of exams, not a preparation program. Your GED score indicates how prepared you are, but the exams themselves don't prepare you for college.
i mean inmates are gonna have a *way* harder time finding outside materials to help them learn the content so it makes sense they can pass with a lower grade
Do the practice test first and it will give you a list of things you need to work on. Use Khan Academy to practice each skill until you master it. Good luck!
That just depends on what you hope to do - if you're just hoping to pass, I would say absolutely go take the test. If you're hoping for a college ready score, you might want to brush up on those skills your score report recommends to look at.
I recommend to speak with someone in admissions where you want to go to see what they are looking for. I go deeper into that in this video: th-cam.com/video/5xIA5DrPmuA/w-d-xo.html
Let me know what math skills you need the most support with! 🙋🏻♀️
@S.K I talk a little bit about that in this video if you want a more detailed answer: th-cam.com/video/5xIA5DrPmuA/w-d-xo.html. In short, I would recommend that you call and speak to someone in the admissions department at the colleges you hope to attend and ask them if they will accept the GED and what scores they prefer so that you can make a plan. Every school is different so it's helpful to check with the ones you're interested in.

I'm signing up Monday and nervous and happy at the same time :) I have a lot of struggle in math but know I can do it! Thank you 🙏🏻
thank you so much for this. this is really a help. cant believe im studying for once in my life never wanted to lol
You've got this! :)
I literally just reviewed the last 3 years of maths just by following along with the vid😂😂
I’m so glad! Good luck!
Do you know if there are study guides for people with ADHD and dyscalculia?
What should i use to study? Im using passged at the moment...
Im just not good at math :( it’s like if I wasn’t meant to graduate school or get my GED
We can get better at anything we practice. Focus on the skills in this series - do a LOT of Khan academy practice until you feel comfortable with those skills.
Thank you!
You're welcome! Happy to help :)
My score on math was a 135 😭 and it was only like that because I didn’t put a whole lot of studying into math in the first place 🤷🏽♀️ I figured since I was fresh out of school I’d be fine but I guess not. I’ll definitely get it this time though.
Yes, you've got this. Check your score report for some info about exactly what you need to study to improve your score next time :)
Take my 5th attempt on Dec 11th
Good luck!
The math part is really kicking my butt, mainly the first 7 🤦🏾♂️
I keep scoring 142 smh
I fail by one point each time
@@gamingtime8271 just happened to me last week 🤷🏾♂️
Same here guys
I failed by two points and my connection was messing up on the last 4. cried the whole day, because I couldn’t believe I was so close to finally having it done and over it. Glad I’m not the only person.
@@stunnaboy3021 had to hire a tutor for the last couple of point
I'm gonna take the math test in the next two weeks (hopefully) and I am terrified for the math portion.
I earned 152 score on GED math exam, is it a good score? Am I college ready?
That’s a passing score! The college ready score is 165.
@@michellerevisited Does that means I won't be able to join college?
@@queensherpa98 No, not at all. It may mean that you will need to take a remedial math class when you begin. It also might mean that a more selective school might not accept you. But again, all universities are different, so if you are interested in somewhere specific you should contact the admissions department and ask them what their stance is on the GED and what scores they are looking for.
@@michellerevisited Okay, Thanks
@@michellerevisited when i took the test it gave me chapters to study. About 26 different categories. I got a 139 on my test.
@@jaystreet4004 definitely use that to guide you - are you also incorporating video resources like Khan Academy?
That happened to me as well. Now I have my test in 17 days and this time I plan on passing it all. I hope you have overcome this since you posted but if not, don’t be discouraged. I’m 26 now and have a new vision on what to do with my life and this is the only thing in my way to get there. Use your goals as fuel to power through it bud. You are capable of anything you set your mind to. Special classes or not, you can overcome this.
My math is my last one I need this
You've got this! Good luck!
@@Sara-ox3oo You've got this! Happy studying ❤️
Did you pass?
Good morning will you’re videos be consistent with the Hiset test vs GED? I’m in Nevada. Thanks I’m advance😊
The tests may be a little different, but math in general will be the same. You might want to look at HiSET specifically to confirm what you'll need to know. Most of my experience is in working with GED students.
This is my last test!
Good luck!
We were learning Bedmas and how to do math with written questions. I find those to be really hard; however, I won't give up!
Do you know if USA standards are equivalent to Canadian standards? I'm in Canada.
thanks
I need help with the perimeter, squares all
So if I get a 145 and still want to attend college, what will happen then since that’s not considered “College ready” ?
They can give you more specific advice.
what do i need to study to get perfect score or college ready? do i need to study algebra 2 calculus and trigonometry?
no you don't.. these things aren't there in the exam topics all u need to do is just focus while understanding and not get carried away by time and more practise of cause and that way u will score higher

You don’t need to worry! You’ll do great, and you have a pretty big margin there to pass. You’ve got this!
@@michellerevisited thank you =)
I was just curious to know how the ged math is scored because to be honest with you i took the test awhile back passed everything else except math guessed every answer did’nt work out one problem on the math exam and scored 141 four points shy of passing so i wanted know how it is scored thank you
Like all of these kind of standardized tests, different questions are weighted differently.
@@michellerevisited thank you sooo much michelle🙏🏿
cool
I just want to know where to start. I don't understand any of this.
If you are really unsure with your math skills, go to Khan Academy and select the 6th grade math course. Do the challenge test to see how much you know. If that level seems easy, move up to 7. If it seems hard, start with that course. You don’t need much more than the 8th grade skills to pass the GED.
I take my last test in May. I hope I pass
Good luck!
Very helpful
Thanks, I'm glad!

Can you get in college with 145 to all 4 subjects
All colleges are different! I would speak to someone in admissions where you are hoping to attend. However, community college is probably going to be a better fit with 145s as you would likely need to take some remediation classes first for math and writing.
Do you only need to know Operations with rationals in order to pass ..... lol i been having a rough time with math
Good question. No, you need to have a base line of skills in all four categories in order to pass - check out the other three categories in this playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PLC2qah-KnWmIkHv35FQJLrD5YMG6-2W34.html
If you score less will they not let you go to college or they still will but you have to work more on the math ??

I’m scoring a 136 on this stupid math I passed everything else my score goes up so slow🙄🙄
But they allow the inmates to pass below, they shouldn't put that type of pressure on people
i mean inmates are gonna have a *way* harder time finding outside materials to help them learn the content so it makes sense they can pass with a lower grade
