Songs always seem so much more intricate when you can see what the guitarist is playing.
what's sad is that its not even half as hard as mixing and recording
I disagree. The learning curves are completely different, in that guitar is a physical skill, something that just requires practice, where recording/mixing is a mental/intuitive skill. You need some basic knowlege, and the rest is all trial and error. I've invested about the same amount of time into each, and I can record and mix an album, but I can't play what Jake just did.

What I experience is the opposite of that. When I see what a guitarist is doing it becomes much easier to me. It's like watching how a magic trick is done.
Theory: Jake never grew a beard. He's been shaving Nolly's head every night while he sleeps for the past few years, making him think he's bald. He's finally collected enough hair to make a beard.

I can`t comprehend how these guys write music, at all.
By ear. None of them are trained or well versed in music theory past the basics. They just play what sounds and feels good to them.
MrMrJacobzon pretty simple, really.
Use extended chord voicings, play weirdly timed phrases/syncopation and turn them around so they can fit into 4/4 time, learn some key modulation, advance your technique repertoire (tapping, hammer ons, wide interval slides), get familiar with this playing style as it involves a lot of open strings, and of course lots of practice. I'm sure I'm missing other key characteristics and I mostly covered guitar stuff but those are some of the things that stick out to me.

Ever since I know the band Jake and Mark always caught my eye for some reason. Misha is a really impressive musician, no doubt, but there's something about those 2 guys that really makes me appreciate their playing a lot.

Jake's technique is so fucking flawless. I find it hard to imagine him ever needing a second take.
His playing is so precise. Every note is on time, has the right sound, right intensity and volume, very metronomic. Every band need one of these guitarists

This is a good cover and all but Jake Bowen could probably play it better than this guy.
It gives me aids when people like Dave Mustain say that metal has gone to shit and its all just drop tunnings and no solos when actually you have bands like periphery that are so technically proficient it is mind blowing .

I'd love to see playthrough's with all 3 guitar parts on them.. The thing that separates Periphery from other bands IMO is how well you guys space your playing. It's incredible how well 3 guitars can work together.

this is the best looking custom guitar from the periphery dudes.. mark psr is good looking but not my cup of tea, misha's jackson is beautiful.. but this reversed headstock, black satin gold hardware, titan loaded ibanez is absolutely stunning

@ShreddShark I doubt that his tone with this guitar is the same with the recording tone, since they wouldn't use this guitar for tracking because of the floyd.
Could be, he's seen playing it in the documentary they put out for the making of this album. Could be a diff guitar though so who knows.
