Nolly Getgood is rapidly reaching the point where he has Gotgood and all of us, every musician, will be swept up in his wake.

Yes, uneven notes will have different timbre, but compression *does* mask it quite a bit, and that high gain distortion masks it even more. You could hit his strings just about any way and itll sound the same. His setup doesn't leave much room for any "tone from the fingers".

Honestly it's players like him that inspire me to want to learn bass. It's so much more than just your typical boomer, "just support the guitar playet". It's it's own thing and I love it. I love seeing bass players utilize big beautiful chords and different techniques than just picking and actually using effects.
Hey man you should definitely check out bass, but just know that just supporting the guitar play is what he doing here, it’s just a flashy riff. Not that that’s bad, but sometimes supporting the guitar player is what is best for the whole song. There’s plenty of moments in this song where he plays something simple to make everything else sound better

Best picked Bass sound i have ever heard! I know Nolly has done a awesome drum sample library recently but he should definitely look into translating this bass sound beyond hardware (like sampling drums) -maybe looking into Bass focused DAW plugins next, as he obviously has the ear for this market. A very small market that is rapidly growing.
Because the mix wouldn't be as cohesive. Plus add vocals and there's even more competition for sonic space. I'm happy to hear it mixed this way on this playthrough alone. Album mix is fucking spot on as well.
MIR This pisses me off too. People think it's just a cop out but it's about tone. This sounds sharp and aggressive and amazing and the only way you could do that with your fingers is if you filed them down to the bones.
Djenty stuff like what peripheroo does is really hard to make sound good without a pick, unless you slap. Most of the time i prefer the sound of fingerstyle, but i think the pick is pretty appropriate here. It would be interesting to hear some periphery tunes with the bass slapped instead of picked though
