I feel burnout reading the angry retorts in the replies to this presentation. I definitely relate to the fact that these are students and do not know what burnout feels like; so let them do their thing/they will learn how hard it is eventually. Perhaps the time spent doing this presentation will help them!

Burnout can happen at any job. I worked at Kroger for 5 yrs. The last 2 years there due to the pandemicwore out my soul. Having to stop racists from attacking asian customers as well as employees is very disheartening. Espescially when it the staff doing it and they cant get fired because of politics. My only issue is they have a monotonous voice because they are reading off a script. It would actually be more genuine if they could read about it first and talk about it. People tend to respond better when they can connect to the person talking.

Anyone that has ever worked the floor knows what it’s like first hand. It can be exhausting. Best advice is always put you at the top of the to do list and take care of self.

The problem with the personal interventions is that it requires time that you do not have. I work at a nursing home and they have no problem scheduling you two 16 hour shifts in a row and then mandating you for a third the very next day. That is sleeping 4-5 hours in between those 16 hour shifts. They do not care. It's sad really

I am glad someone feels the way I do. This has happened to a lot of people I know. That’s why I don’t volunteer for OT because I know I can get mandated. Keep strong girl!

Health is precious than wealth, therefore working overtime craving for money will spoil our well being and relationships.

People who work in healthcare in general have little incentive for their work. In the US, training is minimal and schooling is expensive. Pay is relatively poor for the nature of the work and socially uplifting complexion that is expected. US working hours are notoriously long and nursing work in particular has irregular assigned twelve hour scheduling. How do you expect a worker in a capital based profit economy to justify the un-quantifiable amount of energy that is sought-out by those ill to get a physically or mentally sick person healthy? Nursing work can end up changing your personality and views to accommodate this and still live in the rest of the un-sick world, and they call this burnout. Despite your goals on how you want to be a productive member of society you have to take into account how your work effects your life and lifestyle. This video states that people who have less social ties (spouse, children) are more susceptible to burnout. Since when is it the responsibility of the workers to socially uplift a working environment, if the environment is toxic and it takes up your time and energy, where do you find the resolve? You pay for these health services; In a country that does not provide social welfare to an equal standard there is no filling the gap between expectation/need and resource. If this is how the system works, people have to want to maintain health, they have to take responsibility for their current ability/health state, lifestyle choices, diet, activity, habits, thoughts, motivations, past and future. But in a sick society where none of this is, death, life, and illness are not discussed, ignored like its not going to happen, where real potential and progress are displaced with maximizing profit of technology and pharmaceuticals where is the hope?

I suffered a burn out. It was no fricking joke. its not some thing a good nights sleep sorts out. or even a dosen good nights sleep. It caused pain in my head and was a real struggle to even string together a casal sentence, like trying say " hi how are you ? ... yes i'm fine thanks" I could bearly put that together into words.
any form of thought was just simlple to overwelming, would be a buzzing feeling in my brain and a total inabitltity to think straight. was tireing just trying to even spell words. load noises or even load talking hurt my brain and made my wince from the dull ack it would induce. It tok alot of stress and crazy shit over a very long time to get me to this state.
I had a hard skin calas on my forhead ! from where I had been rubbing my forhead with my hand for so heavy of so long !!! have you ever hurd of someone getting a calas on there face !!! you normaly get them on ur feeet or on ur hands after digging in the garden. its take a year so far simi recover.
I had no want to do anything, I couldnt do anything if I tryed it would just fry my brain. I felt completely hopeless and stoped carig about anything. nothing mattered anymore. and trying seemed compleltly pointless.
scary really. its debilitateing and takes years to recover from. I am miles better but I am stilll easliy tired out and am really fragile still. I'm predicting another year befor i'm properly better. I hope anyway.

I don't really burn out on nursing as much as feel attacked by my peers. Make a video on lateral violence and its prevalence... and come up with a relevant solution to stop it.

Same - patients don't burn me out. It's the system, the turning a blind eye to the bullying...the caring for other nurses' patients, the lack of support, the high and dangerous ratios, etc. Awful.

I am trying to understand how the nursing industry expects to have enough employees that prevent overworking current understaffed facilities. It is necessary to recruit the next generation of nurses, however, if organizations are having such issues and not resolving the issues than it seems to be unethical to expect nurses to make the best decisions if they are mentally/emotionally and/or physically exhausted. It almost sounds as if they need nurses for their organization to be competitive and earn profits yet have unreasonable expectations and not enough options for nurses at the beginning stages "burnout" and ignore it until the nurse is unable to function or make decisions about patients. They seem to expect the nurses to be superhuman and so flexible, yet they are not caring for them (as employees) appropriately or ethically. This is why the nursing industry is in crisis and why few have chosen this career field. Who is going to fix that?
