The bells and Batman on the ledge staring at the bat signal give me chills to this day. Danny Elfmans score is the cherry on top. It can be debated what the best Batman film is but the aesthetics in Burtons film are the best IMO.

Its amazing to me how many supposed Fanboys and comic Traditionalists, who are SOO quick to "correct " all the deviations made by filmmakers, are often themselves completely unaware that there was a time in the very early comics(Golden Age era) where Batman DID kill on occasion. He didn't start out with a "One Rule." Alot of people for some reason think he did.
In fact no comic book character(Not even Superman) before the 1950's and 60s had a rule against lethal force.
That came about after a bunch of do-gooders got the comic industry to censor itself. To essentially make the characters more "Kid Friendly." That's literally the only reason any of them have the rigid rules and tropes that they do.
Bill Finger and Bob Kane had a more gritty vision for Bats than what the watered down cliched version ended up being.
So in reality the general take of Burton, Snyder and presumably Reeves on Batman is more connected to the core vision of Finger and Kane then really any rendition we've seen in film, animation, or video games.

Who cares? No-killing rule is an easy example of "art through adversity," the origins were corporate but in actuality it made the character more interesting and gave him better stories. Many comic characters were created by their creators with different intentions than they end up going down the line, might as well make a Deadpool movie where he's a regular assassin and nothing else since he was created to be a Deathstroke clone and nothing else. Batman became anything but "watered down," those original stories are ass, just standard hard boiled detective stories that every comic and radio show was writing at the time. In regards to this movie you can say the same thing, everything was changed not for artistic innovation but to make it more palatable to average audiences, Joker kills Batman's parents because a run of the mill revenge motivation is literally the best Burton can come up with. It's not a bad movie, but it's not even close to a "true to character" adaptation for the flimsy reasons you've stated. But enjoy you're mediocre 1920's 10 cent comics I guess.

At that moment, what we had to beat in live action were still those nuances of the series with Adam West and that comical feel that was very little aligned with the comics.
As a child not even 10 years old in Brazil (where old American series were constantly shown on TV) I had a phenomenal impact caused by this film.
In addition to the hype created at that time around this production, there are fond memories of my father taking me to the cinema to see this film and still being faced with such an emotional and satisfying ending.
I remember that my school notebooks had images from the film on the cover and I completed an album of stickers exclusive to that film.
