    i appreciate how you were super concerned about very mild radiation in the rocket during sleep but you had no problems sending carol into a literal nuclear reactor to build tiles with no protection 😜

      At the end of the day (cycle), whatever doesn't kill them just makes them stronger... Sure they might be stressed, they might cry, vomit, binge eat, break things, etc... but as in the words of ERG, "Don't worry, they'll be just fine!".

  • @naefaren3515
    @naefaren3515 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Radiation blocking is wonk. Its absorption factor is based on a set mass amount that isn't the typical 100kg tile size. That's why insulated igneous tiles are pretty close to even with plastic and lead tiles. They have 4x the mass even though they have less rad blocking.
    As for animations, I gotta say, I love the cuddle pip hug animation the most, orbital data is a close second!
    As for the nuclear waste leaking, I did not know. I thought it'd go through an aquatuner just fine since they don't actively store liquids, just output them at a lower temp. I guess it'd still be good to use in a fully enclosed loop that just has some bridges to keep the liquid flowing for keeping temps even.

    • @lovag2540
      @lovag2540 ปีที่แล้ว

      if i recall correctly you can make it hold its waste if you flood the building so aqua tuner submerged holding its waste but maybi its been patched i havent played with reactors for a while

  • @glupor
    @glupor ปีที่แล้ว +34

    for the amount of radiation blocking, it is a combination of both the tile type and tile material. So for the instance in the video it would be calculated by multiplying the blocking ability of the material (Lead) with the type (Metal Tile)

    • @DarkYor
      @DarkYor ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Metal tile mass is 100 kilos? I think it is a mass of tile thing. All material rad absorption is listed for standard tile mass of 200 kilos.

    • @bones7868
      @bones7868 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Apparently all tiles just take 80% of the material's blocking %. Obsidian is 75%, and 80% of that is 60.

    Never heard "Have too much water" in ONI before... Maybe interesting idea to try, teleport water to another planetoid and use it as fuel for oil wells and rest as power via hydrogen route, you can get 8800 W out of 10kg/s.

    22:49, I gotta say, I love that animation too. It's just great in so many ways.
    Naphtha is a pretty good material to use for liquid locks in my opinion. It has a fairly low conductivity with a relatively high thermal capacity, it also is quite viscous and can stack up to 40 kg per tile before spreading. Also, at a glance it looks just like crude oil, so when making a 2x1 liquid lock it looks like you're just stacking oil, which looks nice.
    Edit: I added some stuff.

    • @EchoRidgeGaming
      @EchoRidgeGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like it for the viscosity as well. A great lock liquid for sure.

    15:00 You should build the spots where the dupes spend most time (research and sleep) on the first floor where the radiation is eaten up by the second floor's ceiling... and use the radiated second floor for the toilet, eating and pilot station.

    To get 95C water to 25C requires 5 aquatuners (running on water/pwater/brine coolant) for cooling. Three with super coolant. That said, if you put a counter flow heat exchanger between the water going into the reactor chamber and the water coming out, it would reduce the need for cooling by a lot.

    Little known fact, those kilns are deleting heat inside the reactor room. While the building does heat itself up, there is some kind of cooling effect on the atmosphere it is in. You can put a million kilns in an area WITH GAS and it will almost never go above 83C.

    I used liquid uranium as a coolant once. It actually works pretty great, so long as you can keep the sauna hot enough to keep it from solidifying.

    • @jadekaiser7840
      @jadekaiser7840 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Uranium Ore is also a decent budget choice for radiant gas pipes, if you don't want to shell out steel for them. Uranium stuff has pretty decent thermal properties in general.

    I think with the materials overlay, the metal filter only shows buildings as raw or refined metals. I had to search for some specifically copper ore in my buildings, only to find that the copper, gold, iron, and cobalt ores were all the same color, whereas all the refined metals were a different color. I don't think it would be more difficult if you were colorblind, because us non-color blind people be having troubles too. Though it's definitely an interesting Echo-Fact!

  • @mrjblacc85
    @mrjblacc85 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can use nuclear waste to cool your steam turbines more effectively then with water without any corrosion issues. Just let the waste pile up for a little so you can quickly replace all.

  • @overdramaticpan
