I like the shrine to debris at 7:03 . I imagine the dupe sees a geometry defying pile of trash that somehow holds far more in its space than could possibly exist, and his poor mind cries until it caves in. Mercifully, it can only comprehend decor up to -120, so the extra dimensions of trash are filtered out before they melt his beady little eyes. I would say landscape paintings over Aero Pots, simply because you're rolling in reed fiber and not so much in glass.
If you put one drop of water into the deep freezer you can work without having an airlock. When it freezes it'll turn to ice debris leaving a vacuum and can be removed with the sweeper. I usually drop a piece of bleach stone in after using the conveyor chute so its a sterile atmosphere that is also supercooled.
When Spaced Out released there was an Errands tab under Diagnostics but it could only been monitored from the the All Diagnostics pop out. It was my favorite display. You could see if your colony was keeping up with tasks and being efficient. I hope it comes back and can be monitored on the HUD
instead of scrubbing meep you could have just barred him from doing any decorating tasks until you skilled him up. You just put him in there for you own amusement, you sick bastard.
I mean this from the bottom of my heart: there is nothing better than watching a video of you right before going to bed or after waking up, it’s so perfectly interesting and calm that whenever u watch it you calm down and just enjoy your content. It’s just peaceful, no screaming no fake acting just 1 game 1 man and explaining it to us in a perfect way ❤
The reason you were having so many issues with the naphtha always falling into your food storage square was because of ONI physics (it was a vacuum). If you had put the naphtha in and then put in the bleach stone before tiling over the naphtha, then the naphtha would have been able to move into that square with chlorine already in that square, so would have moved up if that case. As always, I adore your videos! This is a favorite run of yours that I love watching!
I want to recommend: lights in the industrial brick! 34:40 - and take water instead of naphtha next time. It will easily freeze into ice and can be picked up by autosweeper or left forever. And : it's a great episode, as always!
helpful tip for anyone trying to make a freezer: you can drop any liquid you want where you food will go, and then deconstruct the tile next to the metal tile, so that all the water (except a little) flows off. Then build and seal off your freezer, and use the coveyer chute to insert a little bleach stone which will delete the tiny amount of water and make a sterile and germ-killing atmosphere. You can also just let the water freeze (ur smart Bagel)
8:20 you can also fill 1tile of the hole with water and put a pneumatic door so dupes can walk on it and wont need to jump AND it disallow things like slime to off gas, so you can put any and everything that is not liquefiable(and doesnt melt/freeze your base but that's obvious cuz it doesnt shield you from temp change)
your video just made my day :D just for fun, you could call your power plant Nuclear-Desalinator or NuDes for short. or call it "Echo-Chamber", it's your design after all
I have a much easier method to get a vacuum for your deep freeze: Just add water. Add a tiny bit of water to your deep freezer. You can build whatever you want, seal it in, and then it'll freeze when you turn the cooling on. You can sweep the ice with an auto sweeper if you want.
7:50 you could also put in diamond tiles below which give a big bonus, and then also act as windows so you can get decor from statues below to really cheese it.
The Nuclear Refinery seems like the most natural thing to name it! Wonderful base so far, good stuff on the carnivore, never tried it but looks hard x) Have a 3000+ cycle colony that I'm proud of, I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with this one! Love the kitchen idea, stealing that setup 😅
19:30 Since it is a system you would use often in varius forms, you can use this word-shortener thingy, similiar to your SPOM: ICCS! (Industrial Center Coolant System) or ICS (Industrial Coolant System).
Hey about your drecko mealwood stifling! I’ve found I have more luck cooling the mealwood by passing the radiant pipes through the farm tiles rather than right behind the plants. I think the plants pull their body temp from the block they’re planted in.
Even though this series is already in the books, at this stage of the game for coolant that's better than any variant of water, since you have arbor trees you could take the wood and turn it into ethanol through a couple of distillers. You can do a couple of things with that ethanol. You can use it as a coolant or you can use it as a fuel, but since you already have nuclear power up and running with a sufficient supply of nuclear fuel there is no need to burn that ethanol for power so you could use it as your primary coolant until you're able to start crafting super coolant. However if you are lacking on the amount of polluted water to keep the arbor trees growing, then burning off some of that ethanol would help to cut the required cost of the polluted water, but that water would have to be chilled a little bit. Now as for the growth of the arbor trees they do like it quite warm as they don't like the cold. One of the drawbacks with the distillers in the early to mid game is that they do require a good amount of power and they do produce quite a bit of CO2 in the process as well as a good amount of heat. For the CO2 you could use it for several things depending on where you're at in the game. You could use it in a early stage rocket if that's the only rocket fuel source you have but you're already using better rockets. You can use it to make the caffeinated beverages but that's still in the near future. The last one which is a great consumer of CO2 is to feed it to slickster ranches which would give you free oil and or petroleum. As a sided bonus, if you get the evolved slicksters that just breath in oxygen give off a very nice decor bonus in their vicinity. I will usually let them roam freely near where my dupes, work, eat and sleep... Planting about 8-12 arbor trees should supply about 4 distillers. As another bonus the Arbor trees also give off very good decor. Yes you could wild plant them but they take longer to grow and yield less. The cost of planting them is the amount of dirt, polluted water, and fertilizer. However, by having farming stations giving you the farmers touch as well as having pips near them goes a long ways. Ethanol makes for a great coolant if you're able to keep it chilled. The pro about ethanol is that it has an extremely low freezing point. You can get it to a much colder temp than you can water without it freezing in the pipes. The con is that it does have a slightly lower boiling point... So managing the piping system with the use of ethanol is the key. However, within your current situation at this stage of the game you are limited on the amount of aluminum that you have and that's a huge bummer if you plan on using ethanol, but I'm sure there could be some workarounds. The other downside is the lack of a continuous and generous supply of polluted water to get the arbor trees started. There are both pros and cons in using ethanol but within a controlled closed system it can be very handy to have as an alternative until you're able to get a better coolant. Ethanol has saved me quite a few times.
You might have problems with your food storage solution. I believe there is a bug with stacking food. Temp is not being averaged, for eg. 99Kg of barbeque at -20C + 1Kg at 100C (from the grill) = 100Kg at 100C. Chlorine will take a long time to cool it down. The food will be deep frozen because of temp of the environment untill you take it out. Then you will have to use powered fridge and it will still go off -5%/cycle. THE SOLUTION is to use hydrogen rather than chlorine. Germs will die at -25C, hydrogen is 20x more conductive, you won't need a metal tile.
If I were to suggest one mod, if you don't mind of course, I would suggest getting the mod that let's you use metals as ores. It doesn't do much but allow you to use metals as well as ores in buildings that use ores to build. Things like gas pipes and doors, but buildings that only use metals remain unchanged, so no liquid pipes made of gold amalgam. Its a simple mod, but it can help save a lot of material, especially considering there's no real easy way to get ores once you run out in vanilla. But its totally your choice, and if you'd rather stick without that's cool, I just thought I'd make a little suggestion to hopefully help out.
There's an easy solution for the infinite storage negative decor. Raise the tiles for the dispensers by one tile, and lower the floor where the debris is dropped to by one tile. Put a ladder in the gap so dupes don't lose time jumping the gap. They'll still grab what they need from the top of the ladder without climbing down into the negative decor.
Good morning Echo! I love how the colony is coming along, just please don't let that rocket turn into a space coffin. Being a military man you probably like acronyms. So for the sauna it could be the "Nuclear Industrial Power Plant Liquid Evaporator Sauna" or for short N.I.P.P.L..... nevermind. Keep up the great work and I can't wait for the next episode!
The decor shown is for the base canvas, if it is painted with a Masterpiece, the decor is MUCH higher (+48 radius 6 tiles) However, the Aero Pot with a plant is +20 so 3 of them is +60.
8:33 Pretty sure floating decor like flower pots and water cooler still contributing to décor. 10:55 The cheap path finding is making the dupe jump the door. Myself, I disable access or simply use air or mesh tile, forcing the dupe to walk to the ladder. It may make more difference when using plastic ladders. Me I just hate seeing them "parcour" on doors.
A third aquatuner would help. In fact, a third and fourth would be better, but you need a second cooling loop to use the expanded cooling. Also, if you make your deep frezer one taller, you can have a naptha bead keep the chlorine in it, and have minimal hea leakage, because chlorine has such a low thermal conductivity. the bottom tile of chlorine can be -20, and there would be very little chill escaping. The naptha drops holind the chlorine in wouldn't be more than a degree below ambiant. And it would allow the dupes acess to all the food in the freezer if you ever decide to go for better food than berry sludge.
i think for the cooling of the water tanks, it might of been better to have 2 separate cooling loops, one cooling the clean water and a 2nd cooling the bring and salt water. that way it is easier to add more cooling without needing super coolant
21:00 - 3rd AT will help, as long as you don't chain it up with the other two. Run a separate loop through the 3rd, this should give you enough of a headroom. You can even make that separate loop way shorter.
call the sauna the deuterium sauna. (in real life deuterium is created in nuclear reactor, and deuterium is hydrogen isotope so I think it fits this setup)
The solid infinite storage: the walls on the side might help, because they block the decor. for the row below if the dupes... jump or something. It also enables putting some liquid in there, which means no offgassing. And helps cool things down /heat them up if you get something in there that needs it. Because you're running your base cooling loop through that tile, right?
When I built my deep freezer, I followed Francis John's design. He put water in the shute, let it freeze, then used a loader to remove the ice from the freezer. In the end, it was all moot for me, as rot still got in there and filled the tile with polluted oxygen, decimating my entire food reserve. I ended up putting Hydrogen inside, instead.

Since the SPOM has a minimum output temperature of 70c cooling the O2 is better. Also, because O2 has a specific heat capacity of 1 dtu/g/C and water 4.2dtu/g/c, you would need 16k dtu of cooling for every degree C of water, and only 3k for every degree C of output O2. To cool the water and keep everything at 20c you would need 1.6aquatuners or 1950W, vs just the oxygen would need 0.25 aquatuners or 307W if you're using water as the coolant
Have your sauna/reactor/purification block turn into a sustainability center and connect it across the top of the planetoid to a spaceport on the opposite side and call the entire thing the Ultra Echo
19:21 Nuclear Distiller? A clear function name. The "HOMER" - "H2O Metal Extraction Reactor" or "H2O Metal Extraction Radioactive". Maybe "H2O Material Extractor Radioactive"?
I love your style, thank you for delivering echo-like content! I always struggle with my fridge, the chill is always escaping! Do you get the same issue ? would you mind showing the heat overlay around the fridge in the next episode pls ?
I just hope one of your bridge in your oxygen cooling system ( 35:39 ) doesn't transfer heat that much that could affect the surrounding and probably your aquatuner one day that keep you awake at night. Your nuclear plant should be call Nuclear Wasting Facility because all of thing that you kept wasting from it 😂
It’s definitely a heat brick. Look, there is a mish-mash of a buncha different stuff, sure, but it’s main purpose is a heat sink. That’s why everything is there, and not somewhere else in your base. Is because it generates too much heat. Although to be fair I just heard you refer to it as a nuclear sauna which is a good idea. Rip my suggestion which was shot down in real time. Lol
Nice job. A question about the beehive cluster on bottom right : the contact with the positive temperature O2 and the heat added by the electrolyzers could kill the hives with time ?
@Echo if you add a liquid bridge to the refiner output lines and add a bit more coolant the lines can continually exchange heat getting the temp to be less dangerous. Hmmm.... radioactive means toxic, filled with steam so hot and sweaty, people(dupes) are expected to work industrial machinery..... isn't that called a Factory?
Just make a tile pyramid under the deep frezer spot, and empty a bottle of hydrogen like 5kg and hydrogen up this spot and make an metal tile under the spot. This much better solution on your deep freezer setup.
Here are some recommendations for the sauna name: S.O.N.P.A.W.P. (Sauna of Nuclear Power and Water Purification) Nuclear Kettle Power Plant/ Nuclear Kettle Nuclear Brine Seperator and Turbine

Negative decor isn't capped, only positive
4:20 - That single hatch roaming on top of the pneumatic door is still there at the end of the episode.
Lol
My dupe absolutely singing her heart out at the beginning of the video cracked me up!

Actually i just let a few gram of water in deep freezer and bleach stone just remove it right away

Schroedingers Brick would be a fitting name for the sauna, because its fine as long as you dont look at it.
New-clear water sauna, sounds like a good name
I needed this after a stressful day. Thank you.
Happy to be able to provide.

You stole my idea my idea was nuclear sauna purifier
And this is why I've been doing the freezers in a different way (as shown by @NathansSandbox a while back);
Liquid *not* in a lock, but
My way is less entertaining but when i make a Deep freezer i just put in some water. When it freezes i can take the ice out with the auto sweeper.
This is a big brain idea. I like it.

3000+ is amazing. Farthest I think I have ever gone so far was 2500ish.
gotta include a Uranium Door in your deep freezer. Guaranteed zero food poisoning.
You could drop the infinite storage down one tile and raise the droppers up by one so they don't get exposed to the negative decor.
I just love it when it's about building systems!
19:30 Since it is a system you would use often in varius forms, you can use this word-shortener thingy, similiar to your SPOM: ICCS! (Industrial Center Coolant System) or ICS (Industrial Coolant System).

My proposal for how you are handling the water filtration is WET - Water Evaporation Translator or Transistor!

If you are burning excess hydrogen anyways, maybe direct it into the thermal nullifier? Extra chill never hurt nobody :)
