On the plus side.. good real world demonstration of the safety of an EV. No fire.. bet the driver was just fine, other than shooken up. The battery compartment in EVs have a massive advantage in structural integrity for a vehicle in side impacts.. for frontal impacts, the huge open crumple space in front is a huge benefit. From the rear, generally similar crash characteristics with a ICE, but no fuel tank to potentially leak and catch fire.
Great discussion on charging vs. Fueling up! However you brought up a great point in the beginning about lack of parts. The computer system chips and semi conductors are the hold up. A large % of semiconductors and chips used here in the US come from Taiwan. Unless the US brings manufacturing local I don't see any relief in the next 3-5 years for parts availability. It will be unfortunate that these EVs are now just disposable.
He talks like everyone has $52,000. laying around to buy an EV. I've bought houses for that kind of money before. I prefer used vehicles under $5000. Less if I can find them. Gas is not an issue because I drive around town and $20. gets me over a week of driving. Currently I'm paying $2.79 a gallon. It would cost me a lot more than $20. to charge an EV that costs a fortune to buy. You can't afford to buy used because you are buying someone else's depleted battery that's going to cost you $15,000-$20,000 to replace.
I filled my diesel truck once every 2 weeks, I fill my gas powered truck once every 2 weeks.... Living in Florida and seeing the amount of EV fires created by flood waters, car crashes and random rolling 1500 deg infernos... I'll take a diesel or gaser any day of the week, even at current fuel prices but NOT at current vehicle prices. Non hurricane afternoon storms flood roads here all across the southeast and especially in Florida. I can see the headlines now.... 5 Florida man's shocked to death by F-150 lightning after they drive though flood waters to go get more beer... Also, you kinda have to run more than 300 miles at times to out run hurricanes and you may not have power where you fled to for several days. While gas shortages are normal leading up to and during hurricane events, they are caused by idiots that panic. The same will be true for charging stations. Morons will park their cars at these chargers plugged in and wont go get them until after they loose power, and I bet they drive a gas vehicle to go get it. If the price of an EV was were its supposed to be and not at the specialty designer prices we see today, if they were priced the 30% cheaper they should be, I will burn one of those Piles of crap to the ground every week, But they better be in stock like Walmart toaster ovens.
EV thing is kinda cool. Just got out of a XC90 and was considering a Model X or either model Rivian but after watching how much of a nightmare Rich’s video of him trying to drive his Rivian from Massachusetts to Florida was, there is just no way. 300 mile in warm climates but I live in northern Canada and the range goes to half when the weather is below freezing, so 150 in winter and then you haul something, because you bought a truck, then you get less than 100 miles on a full charge.

I just hope everyone knows that EVs are not going to save them money because they don't have to buy gas because their power bill and charging station bills are going to cost them just as much or more than they were paying for gas.
