Terra Invicta (HF) FINAL: "TERRA INVICTA"

  • The fleet is in motion, the weapon prepared.
Humanity didn't start this war, but it intends to end it with the kind of decisive finality that could only be produced by a species which has been engaged in a constant battle of innovation and competition against itself for millennia.
The Hydra will not dominate us. Instead, they will answer for their hubris as Max Pichardo and Task Force Omega make their way to the alien base of operations.
In this clash of civilisations, only one will be left standing, and it will be the red hand that flies over an Earth that remains mighty, proud, and unconquered.

Note to game devs, including myself: Add conditionals in the end-game text. If the enemy has no forces left, don't refer to them. If the enemy base was taken by overwhelming force, don't describe it as a desperate and sacrificial battle.

It doesn't make sense either way, the victory condition requiring the aliens and their allies to less than 20% of the fleet power in the solar system contradicts the end-game text. The only possible scenario where HF wins the game and is still outgunned by the aliens is one where other non-alien faction controls most of the fleet power (e.g. Exodus, Academy, Initiative, and resistance each have 20% fleet power, aliens + allies have 15%, and HF have 5%). It might be possible to pull off a dark horse victory in that situation, but it will happen a hell of a lot less often than the player being overwhelming dominant like Perun was.

    • @tristanridley1601
      @tristanridley1601 ปีที่แล้ว +73

@@solaariel2692 I could easily see the aliens still being dominant around makemake. 19% of all fleet power in the solar system concentrated there could be a lot. As Perun said, it's about "local superiority". Some of the text would make sense if there were just less marines on the ground.

Story wise, it could also work if it was a feint as a failed mission. Although the sympathizers' percentage might be low, but in total number it would still be millions of them, and hard to say if there are still spies hidden within. If HF dropped overwhelming ground troops instead of just a small assault team pretended to be some kind of scout, the hydras might just shut down the wormhole before the bio-weapon can get to it.
And this also fits Max's style of a stealth mission, and be sure he always prepared an escape plan. (maybe even his retirement plan).

    "Griffin" Homeworld Orbit
As Castillo sat up in bed, his back propped up by an assortment of pillows, and an IV drip connected to his right arm, be watched. He watched out of the screen acting as a window as Humanity First and Free Griffin ships blasted another ship of the Hydra remnant.
He was in the medical bay of a Mega-Max class Dreadnought, specifically the Flagship "Max's Dream", he missed him you know. He wasn't just good, he was the best.
The years have not been kind to Castillo, despite extensive genome and cybernetic augmentation, he was still old, shriveled, yet despite that, he smiled.
    *BANG* another Hydra remnant gone
*BANG* an anti-matter missile detonating one of the last remaining Motherships and its surrounding escort.
The heart rate monitor beeped in steady beats as he reflected his past, what brought him here, and what happened since that most faithful of days.
It was the 100 year "anniversary" of the Hydra's invasion. 100 years of conflict, 100 years of loss, of sacrifice, of betrayal. And yet 100 years of unrivalled progress, of unity, of hope.
When victory in Sol was achieved by the sending of the Shiva Virus through the wormhole, America's military was poised to take over all of Notth America and was nearly as powerful as the Hydra's themselves.
Eurasia united an entire continent and a little bit more.
China was under control of HF and it only took a couple of choice reforms before the White Sun of Taiwan flew over Beijing as the reformists in the CCP finally won power, and later on United with the Souty East Asian states, Korea, and Japan.
India took over the Himalayan States and created an equal federation of cultures and religion.
The Caliphate united the Islamic world, ranging from the Atlantic coasts of Morocco to the mountains of Afghanistan.
The remaining African states were united under the African Union.
And South America was simply united.
Eventually global unification occured, after all, the wormhole tech was still there, they had multiple derelict ships, colonies, and stations. Not to mention that inevitability many of the Griffins and Salamanders in the system managed to have the pherocytes pass out of their systems and surrendered themselves to Humanity, eventually forming their own governments and joining the "United Terran Commonwealths" as it was called.
As for the other 6 factions, The Resistance, The Academy, and Project Exodus were directly integrated into Humanity First (which had publicly integrated into the global government). The Protectorate, whilst cowards, were admittedly skilled diplomats in that they somehow managed to sign a treaty with the Hydra, obviously they were integrated, but under heavy scrutiny. As for The Initiative, turns out they were using pherocytes for more malicious purposes and given their greedy nature, were purged. The Servants that were under the influence of pherocytes were given the benefit of the doubt, the willing, well, their fates were sealed.
And so Castillo sat watching, the TV screen suddenly turning and showing the banner of Terra fly over the last Hydra ground stronghold, and the last ones were eliminated from existence.
    And so, Castillo smiled.
The heart rate monitor spiked, his vision slowly going dark. He didn't care though, he had done his job and saw the final victory occur, even if he was no longer in charge.
And thus the monitor peaked before going silent. Castillo smiled as he went into the void.
He'd succeeded, and for that, he had no regrets.

"Because of your record, and your abilities I will bring you on temporarily, for now, just work on saving your friends and family. You will see."
After every action taken he got to know more and more people, to blend in one must adapt, and the list of people that needed to be saved grew. After decades of traveling the world, living off others hospitality the pressure mounts and a thought blossomed in Max's mind when he stared into the face of the alien that was caught, it was a vicious thought that took root in his moral being. Its us or them. All the faces started to blend into a group that covered the earth, he had been to early every country and made contacts globally, the world he knew shrank. All of a sudden humanity first made a lot of sense.

"The enemy's gate is *down*" is a quote / catchphrase from the novel "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. It's a reference to conceptualizing one's target as being at the bottom of a gravity well in order to maintain consistency in directional / spatial awareness. It is also motivational, since anything one might lob, throw, fire, etc., including oneself, will tend to "fall" toward that "Down Point".

A great testament to his skill, but not so good at drawing out a good long narrative for the conflict. Are there any game mechanics that could be tweaked to make the underdog portion of the conflict last longer, and so extend the gripping, nail-biting section of the narrative?

The screams of infected hydra dying. A hydra coming through the worm hole just before it collapsed in vain hope of escape. But the alien collapsed at Maxs feet.
As Max raised his gun to the Hydras head he looked into it's pleading but soulless eyes, but never pulled the trigger. He wanted to watch it suffer and die slowly. I love this play through Perun! But I admit this ending leave so much unknowns! That it make me anxious for humanity future.
(Academy spoiler) from potatomcwhisky academy play through we learn that the hydra homeworld suffer an attack by an (another) alien super weapon; which lead the few hydra survivors into enslaving their attacker and then all other potential threats. So the idea of an alien species either hydra or not launching something similar at earth scare me. Especially since we learn that at least pre attack hydra bonded with their domesticated animals; which make me scare that one of these now free thralls who harbor sympathetic feelings for their slaver may tried to avenge the hydra. And unless humanity learn how to make exotic we have a finite supply.
Well anyway I look forward to what you make next!

Perhaps that's how the devs start Terra Invicta 2: Humanity has accomplished its goal and celebrates for a short time, but then fractures as the lack of exotic alien material hampers various nation's rates of progress. Meanwhile, the Hydra regroup. Having seen the inevitable end, some had split from the main body, and, with their empire in shambles, now return to dominate the rest. Human scientists re-establish the wormhole only to catch a glimpse of the building threat. Like Rome seeing Hannibal leading elephants across the Alps, humanity now faces the combined alien force resurgent and overwhelming, pressing hard to the very doors of the city.

I'm sure that many people already have said this and agree, but wow, what a series. The storytelling that emerged from it was amazing, the playthrough was both smart and comedic, the battle of Jupiter and Max's story were just legendary, and I don't think I have enjoyed watching a Let's Play series actively like this in a long time, it was captivating, fun, and very well done despite some minor editing mistakes at the beginning (Looking back at Episode 5 the game screeen didn't quite line up, causing a black bar to be on the right of the screen).
Still, it's been an absolute blast watching this and following along, and this playthrough and it's story is officially the canon story of the game. You can't change my mind. (Seriously, I just want this amazing story to be it's own book and am tempted to write the story down myself)
Hope the future projects will be as successful and fun as this one!

The problem with the alien invasion is not being thorough and fast enough.
Think about the dark forest theory. It's the idea that hiding is a good option but when you reveal yourself to kill someone the strike to kill them has to be a swift, overwhelmingly brutal, and complete death to their civilization otherwise too much will be left behind.
That is if both sides are hostile. The alien's true mistake was picking a fight and flinching multiple times before trying to strike.

Wow. This game is incredible. I have binged this series in the past three days and the quality of your play, your ability to tell a story through gameplay, the editing that keeps the important parts in while not becoming tedious, and the sheer strategic depth of this game are all excellent.
