Terra Invicta (Africa/Asia) Final: Peace, of a kind

  • With space now dominated by our fleet, the only steps remaining before us are to secure political control of the neglected, failing nations of North America and Europe. Under the control of squabbling factions, these countries have suffered greatly, and while America has been instrumental to supressing the Servants and Protectorate (and thus buying us time and influence) - the Academy can no longer tolerate economic mismanagement.
    With Earth secured, we can now claim to speak for humanity - and with a WMD capable of deeply wounding Hydra civilisation and a battlefleet that dominates our system, I'm sure that the Chancellor will be able to secure a great peace offer from the Hydra. After all, she is reputed to be a fantastic negotiator.

    Year so hope you enjoyed this run of Terra Invicta. Towards the end I got excited realising that I had a chance to possibly land the win by 2040 and decided to take it. While I could have spent a few more years healing the Earth, the economy was so clearly going to the moon in a hurry by 2039 that I made the call to wind it up.
    Thank you to all of you who have stuck with me to the end, and I hope to see many of you back for future content.

      Suggestions for next run(s):
      Men In Black: Initiative run; no super nations, no other factions allowed in space. Aliens are prevented from making contact with anyone save the servants. Other than assassination, detainment, fauna exterminations, and anything towards win conditions, no other conflicts whatsoever. You officially don’t exist. Aliens aren’t real, go back to drinking the pherocyte kool-aid, we really are all alone after all!
      World War V: play as protectorate or servants (STOP VOMITING), commit to waging World War 3 (nukes are authorized) and let alien fauna run rampant. Break up as MANY NATIONS AS POSSIBLE. I wanna see flags everywhere!
      Independence Day: As Resistance, let servants/protectorate win, THEN beat them back and achieve your win conditions (apparently this is an achievement)
      Not my problem: As Project Exodus, ignore ALL CONFLICTS AND ALIEN ACTIVITY, build your economy, and achieve win conditions. Apparently game continues after Exodus wins, so any other faction can also win the game. PICK ONE AND HELP THEM WIN.

    the greatest issue with this game is that every single ending pretends its a close run thing, when the game's own victory conditions require it be a total and crushing victory
    there shouldn't be any negotiation for the academy, since the hydra are totally shattered in system and all other factions are crippled
    any negotiations would and should be dictating terms to the hydra so that they may continue to access our system at all, not shaky compromise from a position of absolute and unconditional dominance

    • @hedgehog3180
      @hedgehog3180 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really? Humanity has just beaten back an invasion in this situation, that's the conditions for a white peace but it's hardly one where you can dictate terms. It's not like humanity is able to launch an invasion of the Hydra home system in order to bring them to their knees and the only thing they really have is the vague threat of a bioweapon. It's a position from which you can negotiate a ceasefire and a white peace where both parties agree to recognize each other but it isn't one where you can demand anything from the other party. Just an acknowledgement that neither side can beat the other.

      even if they had a shiny golden fleet on the other side of the wormhole, that doesn't mean shit as they cannot do anything with it
      therein lies the dictate, accept our terms as we have given them and we can cooperate as productive partners, or we will just blow up your wormhole and cut you off from our system permanently
      Humanity has absolutely no requirement to race to alien berlin, any costs incurred during the solar war become irrelevant once the wormhole is secured and the hydra are cut off from any reinforcements they theoretically have

    You've talked a lot about the weaknesses of the Alien AI but I think perhaps the human faction AIs are one of the biggest weaknesses because they seem to be terrible at consolidating control over larger countries and have a tendency to always turn them into shitholes which is just ultimately a worse strategy in the long term and really hurts them. Like so far in both of your games you stopped worrying about the other factions fairly quickly and they were never a serious impediment to your goals and I sorta figure they were intended to, like the division in humanity was meant to be a significant obstacle that the aliens could exploit.

    I feel like the victory conditions are way too harsh for what the endings indicate. You need 75% of all control point value on earth, like how can you achieve that without having utterly dominated and pushed all the others basically out of existence.
    I think the numbers should be tuned way down so that you might achieve victory with the other factions, aliens included, actually still being a threat.

    • @dtly50
      @dtly50 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Not for academy but definitely for most other factions.
      For academy, to be seen as "equal" it makes sense for it to be necessary for everything to be in one piece so that aliens don't have any hope of control(protectorate and servants) or fear of hostility(resistance and especially humanity first). Otherwise they will fight to the end.
      But dropping an antimatter bomb(resistance) should be allowed with just a strike team and so should bio-bombing(HF)
      Protectorate should only require large majority world support(75%) to be surrender monkies.
      Servants are already really easy.

      @hedgehog3180 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I think the biggest issue with that it's that it's the kinda victory condition that's just busywork for when you've clearly already won the game. Like if you're in a position to take over that much of the world CP then you've very obviously already won and this is just a question of time. It could be 50% and it'd work just as well because you're clearly already dominating the game once you have that large a share of the global CP.

    • @preadatordetector
      @preadatordetector ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO there should be alternate victory paths for each faction. If pro-aliens don't commit too many atrocities or hold anything (because HF is pounding their ass) HF can moderate and therefore have to develop countermeasures to their own weapon and hold POWs. Or the reverse, where xenoists run free the HF can degenerate to dumb terrorism and deploy the bioweapon without controlling the system, but get maluses for going down that path and have to stabilize the system after neutering the aliens early.

    Handing over the weapon is a risk, but for the Academy's goals it's something that has to be done. You can't build a lasting peace at gunpoint, even if literal and/or metaphorical guns are necessary on the path to it. If the Academy keeps the bioweapon forever, the Hydra are never going to see them as anything more than a potential threat. I think the idea is to use the threat of the bioweapon in place long enough that Humanity and the Hydra can settle into an arrangement where the threat of the weapon isn't needed to sustain it.

  • @danielross7983
    @danielross7983 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree that giving up the bio-weapon is a mistake. The ending is a bit of an anti-climax... there should be some acknowledgement of your dominance of Earth politics too... the threat of the other factions, as you rightly said, is negligible... and the Hydra should also recognise that fact in their negotiations... The guarantee of sovereignty would be more impactful if it included terms for the Hydra to LEASE mining bases, for example. Them asking for volunteers was interesting, and should definitely make reference to The Servants. It could also be exploited to offer employment in other areas of Hydra society for humans, which may also create great changes in Hydra society if they are now socialising with independent (not controlled) humans (Nandos and Starbucks on the Hydra home world?)
    I also think that your victory mission shouldn't actually be the final victory mission... dominating Earth to "enforce" the terms of the ceasefire/treaty should perhaps be a final goal, rather than a condition of opening negotiations. Perhaps a mission to reach certain conditions - say Alien hate drops to pre-war levels and the Academy has to maintain it there or lower it further by policing Sol system and Earth? You are only at 2039...
    It's not the kind of game I would enjoy playing (too much micro), but I do enjoy watching your story-telling and the whole concept. The developers I hope are considering an extension of the game towards either invading the Hydra system, or invading another system WITH the Hydra as allies, depending on the faction played in 'part 1', e.g. Exodus could end up capturing the Hydra base (I have no idea how their campaign ends, btw) learning how to control the portal technology and then use it to colonise what turns out to be an already occupied system.
    Great playthrough, nonetheless... look forward to the next.

    Amazing run, though I think the way that last event reads is that we were not specific when we would give them access to the bio-weapons. Meaning we plan to delay for as long as it takes and we would have time to develop more options while we debate the terms of the treaty that includes the clause that limits bioweapons research and by then we might have other options.

  • @Nyst2

    Diplomacy is an incredibly hardball game. The delicate balances of reality vs perception, give and take, trading strength for weakness. Compromise, appeasement, strongarming, bluffing.
    As a rule of thumb, you know a deal is good when both sides feel they gave too much and gained too little.
    The Aliens giving us sovereignty, humanity promising to hand over its bioweapon research, both sides feel shocked by those concessions.
    For a real world example, try to imagine how tense the diplomatic talks were that lead to the US and Soviet Union's nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

  • @TheFinn70
    @TheFinn70 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agreeing to halt bio-weapon production and R&D, plus handing over current prototype specs "at some point" seems a perfectly acceptable concession.
    The Academy has taken humanity to the point of near-parity with the Hydra, at least in warfare - what tech difference there is, our local economic advantage overcomes.
    If there is another war, we've learned the AI is weak and can be outplayed... I mean, that the Hydra's pheromones catapulted them instantly to the dominant species of their world and it's put them at an obvious disadvantage against us in this war. We struggled a long time, even after we learned to use tools before we became the dominant species. We developed cunning instead of pheromones.. we learned ambushes and asymmetrical warfare and every trick the weak use to survive and overcome the strong.
    Unless the aliens manage to project their economic strength to Sol, we don't need the bio-weapon anymore.
    Military assistance to the aliens provides great opportunities, assuming we're running human designed ships with all human crews chopped to Hydra command.
    First, it will tell us a great deal about where the Hydra are - in case the alliance ever fails and we need to launch our own wormhole invasion.
    Second, who's the dominant alliance partner will soon shift to us when Commands integrate, and human planning starts to win over the Hydra leadership who don't already respect us from the way they were manhandled in the First (and hopefully only) Human-Hydra War.
    Lastly, with access to the wormhole technology - and hopefully Human-Hydra cooperative research, I have little doubt that within a decade or two, we'll be sending full sized ships through wormhole gates similar to EvE.

    In 2040, the solar system is at peace, though perhaps not for long. By the terms of the cease-fire, all alien troops and ships have been withdrawn to Quaoar for final negotiations as to their fate, though evacuations of Hydra personnel deemed non-essential are ongoing. The slight delay by the Mothership Hunters to the platform they had come to attack until the Cease Fire was in force has provided a small, but noticeable uptick in good will. The ships and stations themselves have yet to have their final fate determined-an attempt to pass the fleet off to the Servants or Protectorate has been nixed, but they are too large to pass through the wormhole station-perhaps a scrapyard will be needed. Scrapping is certainly the fate of many Academy ships as the various space fleets begin to downsize and rationalize towards the current threat environment. Already, older ships are en route to Mars or Io to be mothballed, while the most modern dreadnaughts and battleships hover protectively over the Quaoar negotiation zones. Alien Surface Base Alpha, demilitarized, has been expanded to accommodate both human and alien luxury habitation areas for the VIPs, as ongoing negotiations remain a key for now.
    On Earth, things are in flux, as factions re-align themselves to the new order. Servant supporters volunteer to be shipped out to serve the aliens-something given serious thought by the alien negotiation teams. In contrast, the Protectorate have performed a Volte-face and have demanded that Earth can never be safe from the aliens without a real and serious deterrent to Alien attack, calling for both bioweapon and interstellar kinetic C-fractional weapons development. In contrast, Humanity First, long the dominant military force on earth, have found themselves bereft of their armies and are beginning to transition into terrorist and maoist resistance to the coalescing global Academy order. The Resistance, meanwhile, long unable to achieve meaningful results, has begun to push for muscular and aggressive military buildup-both on earth, and off it, calling for a full modernization of both space fleets and terrestrial armies to bring the later up to xeno-tech standards. The Initiative have been a key partner in developing anti-Pherocyte technology, but the appearance of engineered Pherocytes in Academy personnel have lead some to conclude that this partnership may be coming to an end. If so, the Initiative will soon find themselves on the end of a brutal economic attack and anti-trust action. Exodus, meanwhile, have seen the writing on the wall, and Director Khalid Al-Ashgar has reached out directly to the Chancellor. With her support, and the vast Academy space economy, a true interstellar science and colony ship might be launched within 20 years, not a mere escape vessel.
    Because it is the Academy, now, that is truly ascendant. Their old supporters flock back to the flag, and new ones arrive daily to congratulate the die-hards on their incredible success. Chancellor Li Qingzhao, approaching her 74th birthday, is preparing to step down from her post, and to become the old woman of Academy politics, the crisis' end a fitting time for retirement. But old age doesn't mean what it once did, and the Pan-asian conglomoration has seen the rollout of impressive new medical technologies to deal with a increasingly aged population. And Li Qingzhao would like to have the personal time to spend with her new daughter, who thanks to genetic engineering will be one of the first humans born with an innate resistance to Pherocyctes.

      Key word, "possible". The Hydra have already survived one extinction from the Salamanders surprise attack, it's very possible they'll survive another. And if they do, next time they would not come to subjugate, they'll come to eradicate.
      Besides, they still have the advantage of wormhole technology. They can come to us anytime.

    I mentionned it in the last video, and I don't know if you've seen the comment or if you will ever see this one, but it would be great to see the stuff with the alien nation, megafaune, and ground wars in a future playthrough
    in all 3 playthroughs you've uploaded to youtube, you destroyed the aliens before they became a threat on earth, it would be nice to see you use your intelligence to claw back from a seemingly lost situation, since getting to that point would basically mean you need to shoot yourself in the foot and intentionally play bad until you don't, another way to do that might be a "disaster save", where you pick up a failed save file where the aliens already control a large chunk of the earth, and then you need to clean it all out, remove them completely and achieve victory, despite the much harder challenge
    I would find this really intresting to watch and I hope you do something like that in the future

    Total Victory Challenge
    You must:
    1: Control all the world's nations, either as multiple superstates or one massive superstate.
    2: You must destroy all of the Aliens fleets and bases BEFORE you attempt the final mission.
    3: You must destroy in its entirety, one of the sympathetic factions (Servants or Protectorare), preferably both.
    Bonus 1: Have the world's GDPPC at least: $45,000, with an inequality score of less than 1, democracy above 9, education above 8, and cohesion above 5.
    Bonus 2: Complete all of the above before 2045 on Hard.

    HF starts with "Who comes to us with the sword, dies by the sword" and ends with "but maybe virus bombing is more efficient with such a choke point."
    Academy starts with "Why can't two intelligent species just cooperate as equals?" and ends with "Looks like we need to knock some sense into both parties for it to happen."
    What's next? Exodus starting with "Now that the technology is within our grasp, we have to make humanity a multistellar species!" and ending with "OK, this world has gone totally crazy, time to GTFO." ? Actually, it would be quite interesting to see a different perspective from a faction that is actually inclined to stay away from the fighting. Pacifism, neutrality and megaprojects - that might result in more technocratic approach than what Academy turned out to be.
    To be honest, I'm a bit unsatisfied with the whole concept behind the Academy's victory conditions. Yes, it works as hard mode, but other than that it feels a bit off. Even HF, as extremist as they are, have their victory conditions allowing space for allies - as long as you kick aliens off the Earth and alien lovers into corner, it doesn't matter how much power you leave to your allies. The Academy stands for scientific cooperation... and suddenly finds itself required to dominate everyone, former allies and sworn enemies alike. Sure, both Servants and HF might need to be neutralized for the Academy's end-goal, but most others should be able to integrate into the new grand vision without the drastic measures of having to completely take over the world.

If it can be believed, the actual aliens (not the fictional ones in this game) are light years ahead of us, and no such "war" could conceivably be undertaken. There are stories of a short conflict in Viet Nam, where missiles fired at a UFO simply "disappeared," only to later be targeted at a ship in the same vicinity. Congrats on the win with the Academy!
    Maybe for your next run something like this could be an option: the nations abandoned by the world and only sought out for their natural resources and cheap labour by the richer countries are an easy place to convince people to join the alien supremacy, this could be an interesting way of going into a servants campaign, I don't know if they are easier to do than the other ones, and if they are this should give it that much more of a difficulty spike as the countries you go for are the ones where democracy isn't high the inequality is unquestionable and their resources are limited.
    and maybe like putting a moment where you can go out and start taking over the bigger nations in function of your main quest research, example: when the alien nation is established or something like that.
    It would prove to be an interesting playthrough nonetheless, especially in the early game to survive the onslaught of HF. Later on, because of the amount of nations you would control the mainland mc produced would most likely make space expansion easier not to forget that the aliens will be supporting you whilst doing so.

    Hi Perun, I commented on a previous video on this series, but I have a challenge for you:
    Play as the Initiative, never invest in welfare, never research climate change tech, always keep the oligarchs of your controlled countries happy (through spoils), Sell bases with tons of MC to other factions so they establish an actual space economy, and by the time you win you must have all councilors off of the rubble that Earth will be.

    • @redvenge709
      @redvenge709 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have not noticed, when the AI goes total dystopian, it loses. Badly. The developers have a utopian bias in regards to game mechanics.
      Going for a dystopian playthrough would require significant balancing of spoils, economic investment, unity and welfare. While you would want medium to high inequality, for a dystopian playthrough, you would want to keep it somewhat in check so that AI factions don't just take your stuff from you with constant coups. Notice how high inequality le to high unrest in the United States of North America in this playthrough, allowing Perun to easily snag one of the most powerful nations on Earth, while his super asia was effectively immune to coups.
      Developers also have a bias in regards to enviromental mechanics. Spoils is corruption and damages a country's economic infrastructure while increasing global climate change. Global climate change damages global economic infrastructure, just like nuclear war. You would have to balance environmental techs with how much you use spoils to prevent the entire global economy from collapsing.
      A dystopian playthrough is possible, but is significantly more challanging than setting spoils to zero, then max the sliders for Knowledge/Economy, with a slight bump to Welfare/Unity, like he has done for these two playthroughs. It would require environmental techs just so he could maintain his economic growth (because, again, developer bias) which would be the goal of such a plathrough. To use Earth as the primary source of income, rather than anti-matter farms or selling exotic materials.

    I think a cool faction to do next would be the Servants.
    We have seen what the Anti alien factions are (I doubt the Resistance is too much different from Humanity First, but with wormhole tech instead of bioweapons).
    We have seen what the "We will let the other guys commit genocide if you don't get peace" faction does
    So I would say it is time to see what the pro alien factions are like. I am suggesting the Servants as they seem to focus far more heavily on Earth in the lategame, which would certainly be a large change of pace from the space war we have been witnessing in your other two playthroughs.
    Otherwise, if you want one of the factions that are ostensibly neutral, I think exodus would certainly make for an interesting playthrough. I suspect that you would make far more use of spoils as you scrounge up the resources to build a space economy to then make your escape.
    All in all, I don't think I am the only one curious as to what is going on behind the scenes with the Servants, and to a lesser extent the Protectorate.
