San Antonio really got Gilmore about two or three years too late. Ice was already showing some signs of decline by the 83 season and Gilmore was well into his 30s at this point too.

Man, James Worthy missed the entire playoffs this year!! He broke a leg about six weeks before the playoffs. The Sixers were so good, it may not have mattered, but the Lakers wouldn't have gotten swept!

@Ed Nunez Nixon played in 3 of the 4 games in the Finals. McAdoo played 2 of 4. Nixon got hurt in Game 3, I think with a broken hand. Which would be his last game as a Laker, since he was traded in Sept of Oct of 83 for Scott and Swen Nater.

@@gorkajames6475 Kareem certainly outplayed most of them well past his own prime. Jabbar killed Artis in their head to head matchup in the late 70s. Even in this series 1983 WCF Kareem got the better of Gilmore. Not saying Artis didn't play well but he wasn't able to slow Jabbar down.
Kareem played against an older Wilt who ask his teammates for help guarding the younger man. In 1972 WCF in 6 games Jabbar outscore Wilt 202-59. Rebounded evenly with him. Kareem was the best at that time.

I looked up some stats. Iceman averaged 26 points that season but only took 33 3-pointers!! Icemand and Mike Mitchell both took over 1,300 shots each. A-Train took less than 900 and averaged 18 points, I'm sure many coming after offensive rebounds. I wonder how many set plays they ran for A-Train!

I could not imagine if he could play at the age of 20, he could reach to 45.000 points in his career. Abdul-Jabbar was the Unguardable player. This is the explanation of Olajuwon.
