  • After an extended stay in Newcastle due to weather related disruption, the journey back to London was not plain sailing. A fire near Sandy meant that the ECML south of Peterborough was still closed. There were also, reportedly, no trains from Peterborough to March so a simple detour via Cambridge was not possible.
LNER advised against travel but that was not an option. They then advised not to travel further than York as Peterborough couldn't cope with the expected influx of passengers. We took matters into our own hands and, from York,, travelled to Leeds and then Sheffield. TPE, Northern and EMR staff all went out of there way to help us. We had seats on all the trains we used, including the first EMR service of the day from Sheffield to St Pancras which departed just around 13:00. Home in Bromley by 5 was not a bad outcome. I have no idea how those that stick with LNER fared. I can't imagine it was much fun trying to get on trains from Edinburgh and further north at Newcastle or York when through services did start. I can't work out why they couldn't have put in an extra call at Doncaster to allow people off there rather than York, but hey, I'm only a customer.

Great video Mr Boogie, certainly the long way home but at least with delay repay it made all the inconvenience just a shade more palatable. Well done 🤓

I do like Lumo which I haven’t been on yet. Maybe in the future Lumo could stop at York.

This may sound cruel if so then i apologise Boogies Trains. If it's any consolation what you experienced on July 19th would give you a rough idea on what summer in parts of Australia feels like. Speaking from experience but despite that this clip is a very interesting one and i'm pleased that TPE, Northern and EMR were able to accept your tickets. Hopefully the said TOC's will get some positive reviews for going above and beyond

Hi Craig. I have distant relatives in the wheat belt about 150 miles inland from Perth. As you say, it is a different world. Our problem is that our infrastructure isn't designed to withstand the heat. Our heat is also very humid and the further north you go the temperature at which it becomes uncomfortable goes down.

Yep, and EMR were recommending passengers for London to take this one to Derby as they didn't know when there would be one from Sheffield. Traksy had already told me that 1Zxx was on its way from Derby so we waited. By the time we got to Derby it was full and standing.
