"Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman" is quite the mystery itself. We had 15 years to figure out where it fell on the DCAU timeline...but it took until a couple months ago before we finally unraveled the puzzle. Yet...will the mystery behind the disappearance of Mattie's chair be left unresolved?

I hear you, and am hopelessly addicted to this. I've honestly never once until now, ever cared to watch anything on TH-cam or anything else. It's the love. These guys are so happily insane, it's like they found pure joy and figured out how to share it.
@@RoseKelly-mp2di well I wouldn't go that far but yea it's the mix of the dedication to the absurd and the nostalgia and appreciation for a well crafted universe.
I always assumed changes to costumes and character designs, unless explicitly called out, are just stylistic choices and whatever the current look is, that's just how it's always been. Sometimes artists even redraw scenes that call for flashbacks to use the updated models.
I assume costume changes are usually accurate, but flashbacks are at times inconsistent due to being from the perspective of the person remembering/imagining the past, who may simply have not put much thought into what costume someone happened to actually be wearing at that time or may not have been present and thus didn't know. The flashbacks in Old Wounds for example are best thought of as being Tim Drake imagining the story that Dick Grayson is telling him, filling in the appearances of the people he knows with how he knows them to look. The difference between the TNBA and JL suits could very well purely be a matter of style, but also could be just assumed to be Bruce just having a few different suits and favoring one or another at different points of his life.
I've always assumed JLU and TNBA are the same suit, just different animation styles. It only bugs me when the BTAS suit is or isn't used inconsistently it clearly has a different design with the yellow oval. The other 2 the shadows, shape of the ears, size of the emblem, can all easily be attributed to the animation style
Am of the opinion that the TNBA/Static Shock - "The Big Leagues" and the JL+JLU (and by extension, Static Shock - "Hard as Nails+Future Shock" by way of artistic license) suits as altogether different suits. If not that, then as one commenter put it, the TNBA suit is the one used for Gotham ops, while the JL suit is for the special off-Gotham occasions.
But yeah, "Old Wounds" should have used TNBA revamp renditions of the B: TAS suits for both Batman and Batgirl.
awesome, I'm glad Batman Mystery of the Batwoman is getting some love, I find this movie to be incredibly underrated and I don't think enough people talk about this movie
Roderick Hare probably because it's garbage.
It's my fave right after mask of phantasm, it's very comfy to watch, roxxy was my fave in it.
I watched it not long ago, and it was worse than I remember, sadly.
Aside from the quality itself, though, two things drove me crazy. The incredibly dated pop music, and the Bruce-being-kinda-creepy factor.
It doesn't even come with the BTAS Blu-Ray box set, but Mask of The Phantasm and Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero do.
If I'm not mistaken, this was one of the first movies I watched around the time it came out...
The intro alone was worth a like, I love how much time you guys put into this, maybe we are looking at a new generation of comic book makers here?

1 - Does the DCAU have a 'real' Kryptonian Doomsday whose matrix Cadmus derived the clone from?

This channel is so stupid, I love it.
It's like, the embodiment of that one small part of my brain that gets hung up on every small continuity error, even though the rest of my brain is screaming, "just repeat to yourself it's just a show, I should really just relax".

Great video. I loved the end of this. I never thought that this movie would take place after the end of JLU. I always thought it took place before or during JL.
Matthew Washburn well let’s see according to the internet it said that “Mystery of the Batwoman” takes places before the flashback events of “Return of the Joker”.
Isn't it also possible that the 2005 is either just the year that that particular plasma rifle on display was made? Or maybe that was just the year that it was patented, but prototypes were already in use by criminals for years before that? That seems to make more sense to given their use before that time in JL/JLU and Barbara being in college (which could also be grad school?), lol 😅.
Was Kathy really a love interest? She seemed more like a girl he dated a bit because she was hot. I don't think it was anything serious or he loved her.

The ending is a very cheeky/clever way to say, "Or maybe MOTB is all fiction" While still having fun with timeline stuff.

Theory for costume problems: Batman has "Justice League" gear and "Gotham" gear with a different setup of tech built into the suit because of common situations he will encounter in those two different settings. It would make sense that when he's stationed on the Watchtower he has a Watchtower set of Batgear and when he's home in Gotham he has a Batcave set of Batgear. The two look different because he wants his team to tell at a glance which set of tools, devices, and protections he has in order to know his strengths and weaknesses for teamwork based activity. It's subtle so that villains are less likely to pick up on it. Watchtower gear is set up for dealing with laser weaponry, stronger electrical currants, hacking into alien OSes, and gadgets useful in space. Gotham gear has the sort of stuff you usually see him using in Gotham, and has the laser protections stripped out mostly and some other stuff removed in order to reduce weight, allowing him to move faster in combat situations, as he's far more likely to rely on pure brawling in Gotham than he is in space or superpowered fights, meaning that in those missions he trades speed for protection and power against superpowered threats. The Beyond Suit would thus make sense as the idea of merging these two split operating environments into an all-in-one suit.
Except Batman’s wearing the JL suit before the League is formed, and during the Batman Adventures Vol 2 comic 🤔
@@dcauwatchtower 0.1 or so of the concept when he first starts considering the idea, keeping it in its seperate build environment so that testing it doesn't accidentally get him screwed? Just as a general "in case of escalation" idea that he starts testing, only to have it become a mainstay via everything that happens? Thus explaining why he wouldn't try to merge them sooner, because it was a very rapid development cycle and constant upgrades and alteration that required them to be kept seperate so that the "Space" Batsuit could be what it needed to be without compromising the Gotham suit, when it was just supposed to be a prototype for something he was kicking around for upgrading the actual Batsuit in Gotham?
So pre-League appearances would be test runs of an earlier model he's working on. Comic canon at least provides for the idea of Batman always having a billion prototypes and suit variations lying around, so it's just something that happened via an act of fate that it became seperate gear instead of just expanding on the normal Batsuit. Basically, that design is the "test environment" suit.
@@dcauwatchtowerHe could have that suit because he knows he's dealing with extraterrestrials. Darkseids invasion, karkulls attack, and the etrigsn episode probably made him want to have equipment for those kinds of missions
So I found this channel a few days ago and really enjoyed it, because I love the DCAU. Then I got to the end of this video and found the HIMYM reference, which I love just as much as DCAU. Definitely subscribing. Great job! Keep up the good work!

I once got a tooth removed because there was this abscess growing on my gums but I can't remember for the life of me when this was. I can give you my approximate age, but I wouldn't be able to pinpoint when it occurred relative to other events around the same time. What I do know is that it definitely happened. The fact that I can't put it into continuity doesn't change that.
I like to think Batwomans suit is what inspired the Beyond suits design

It said "Plasma Riffle 2005" but it doesn't necessarily mean it was created in the at year, perhaps just the model on display that came from that year.
This has been brought up hundreds of times. It very well may be the case. We actually just stumbled recently upon other timeline info within the movie we’d somehow missed...gonna have to correct ourselves in another video eventually.

The Mystery of the Batwoman was much more tolerable than Brainiac Attacks. Only a few issues. Re-casting some of the voices. The costume of Batwoman (she has gray skin)🤢 . And Tim Drake's age which was barely mentioned here. He's obviously older here but we are told by Commissioner Gordon in ROTJ that Tim was never Robin again. Yet he appears to be the same Tim Drake Robin we see in the New Superman/Batman adventures. What I just tell myself is that when the old and younger Batmans meet in "The Once in Future Thing", old Batman tells young Batman to protect Tim from letting that happen and so it never did. That's why you see an older Tim Drake in TMOTB! There you have it. You're welcome Watchtower Database!
Haha, thanks, but nah, this movie takes place on the timeline before the RotJ flashback. We just have to accept the slightly-older-looking Tim in the same way we accept the slightly-different-looking Batsuits...

Yo Mattie! Have you guys ever thought of doing a video on: Superman Brainiac Attacks place in the DCAU timeline? or Kaznia's actual geographic location? or whether Luthor and Darkseid are even still alive after the end of JLU.
Great because I've always wondered where Kaznia was? Considering it popped up so often. As I recall based on the accents and the attire of the priest that was supposed to marry Savage and the princess chick it's somewhere in eastern Europe like around Azerbaijan but that's just my theory.

In the episode "maid of honor" the men who send that 3 gray spies when they said batman stoped them , the guy with the strange thing in the neck say "again?" Maybe indicates.... the movie happen in justice league era?

you do remember in Batman Beyond Barbara Gordon is the police commissioner by that time. that would indicate Barbara would have had to have gone into the police academy at some point. so maybe during the events of Batman and mystery of the Batwoman that's where Barbara was.
Bruce asks her “how’s college?” so it’s implied she’s...at college. However she’d likely be back for a second major, and she’d previously majored in computer science as per her TNBA official biography. It may or may not be connected to her future commissioner position.
Lol I loved this guys! When I was I. High school religiously watching JLU I would’ve loved to have watched the great analysis videos. I remember rushing out to buy Mystery of the Batwoman like yesterday. I think it’s hard for people in the modern era who weren’t into the DCAU at that time to know what a big deal it was, even if it was a little disappointing.

On the Blu-ray of the movie, you can see all the Batwomen's ages and birthdates on the Batcomputer, giving us 2003 for the year! So it actually happens during JLU, around the same time as "Batman and Harley Quinn"! Been meaning to do a follow-up/remake of this video...

It’s in the same universe as the Batman beyond show and movie it’s just in the past before the events of Batman beyond ever happen.. if you take a look at the robin from both movies (B:TMOBW & BB) They have the exact same suit and build.. The scene from Batman beyond is when theirs a flashback of when robin went missing & Joker/Harley kidnapped him and turned him into joker... That flashback scene is the exact same robin as the one they show in Batman: The Mystery of Batwoman.. it’s a lot to type out but same robins just google them both & compare. BOOM!! = Content🤣🤣

one thing we didn't discuss is when did Robin Tim Drake return to Gotham after the Teen Titans I still believe that's Robin Tim Drake in Teen Titans plus we also have in Future Shock he was also there when Batman was supposed to be with the Justice League but he was wearing his Batman new adventures costume and the Batcave didn't have the trophy cases or any of the other stuff in it that we see in Batman Beyond also not to mention the fact that gears costume colors that actually changed he must have bought a new helmet and we made an entire different suit. That's something to consider next time we you do a video like that just throwing it out there.
Greetings from the future. Idk if you know this already, but the robin in teen titans is in fact dick grayson as proven in the future episode where he appears as nightwing, where as Tim drake would've been red robin (yes the character did exist at that time). With that being said teen titans is not part of the dcau. There were plans for crossovers but they never went through. Plus somethings in that show don't line up. Kid flash is depicted as wally west when in dcau he's the flash.
So how do you explain speedy being the same speedy in the episode of Justice league unlimited Patriot act?

Gross oversite in the timeline argument is that college is only 4 years. in fact there are Graduate Schools, which is where you get masters degrees and doctorates and law degrees. so when Bruce says hows college it could be that Barbara could have gone to a grad school to get a legal degree which would come in handy when she climbs the ranks in the GCPD to become commissioner.
The plasma rifle in the museum could've just been a historical weapon from that specific year, not a declaration of the exact year plasma rifle technology was invented. Pretty sure ray-gun-like weapons were used as far back as STAS anyway. I hereby revoke the lynchpin of 2005

Why is that when old Bruce met young he didn't say "oh by the way don't Tim go on this one mission" so that he doesn't get mind raped by Joker
As expressed in the episode, he had no memories of that day’s events from his younger age. So he had no way to know if that would even happen in that Batman’s timeline.

If Mystery of the Batwoman does take place just before Maid Of Honor, It would explain WHY Bruce never pursued a serious relationship with Diana in Justice League and JLU... because he was already in one with Barbara!
If Kyle Higgens run on the Batman Beyond Comics is considered Canon to the DCAU, Barbara ended her relationship with Bruce shortly after the Jokers death. While what happened with Joker and Tim was the final straw for Barbara, I suspect Bruce's obvious attraction to Diana and him dividing his time between Gotham and the League put a strain on his and Barbara's relationship.
