Yeah. And you know what? Both Ford and Carter were the last from their parties to do certain feats. President Ford is the last Republican to win the states of California, Oregon, and Washington in a seriously contested election. Jimmy Carter is the last Democrat to win Texas, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Alabama.
@@evanshiong3557 Reagan was the last Republican to carry Oregon and Washington in 1984. Bush 41 was the last Republican to carry California in 1988. You're correct about the states Carter carried in '76. In fact, Virginia was the only Southern state to go for Ford. The rest of the Solid South went for its native son, Jimmy Carter.
@@thewatchdog9541Yeah but I mean a seriously contested election. Listen, we all f*****g knew Reagan was winning in 1984 - even the furthest left wing Democrats acknowledged that. I’m talking about a real election election (every election except 1984, 1980, 1964, 1936, and 1932). But yeah, Reagan was the last to win New York, Washington, Massachusetts, Oregon, Hawaii, and Rhode Island.
@@evanshiong3557 Understood. Just was being my technical self since I am of those Presidential aficionados. I get a little carried away. My apologies. Meant no disrespect. You're right, though. The '76 election was a close one, especially in the states you mentioned where President Ford won. In fact, at one point, I recall Oregon leaning to Carter, only to learn later that President Ford won the state. Incidentally, when I was 14, I had a chance to shake President Ford's hand at a rally at the Rochester-Monroe County Airport (Halloween day, of all days). Imagine the excitement of a 14-year-old boy, bragging to his classmates about meeting the President. Have a great night.
@@thewatchdog9541 Congratulations on meeting our 38th president btw. He seemed like a good man who genuinely wanted us to let the past be the past with Watergade….sadly that got him booted. But they were great friends.
Jimmy Carter 2020
@foulpotato He is better than most of today's old republicans and old democrats.

A descent man who will die soon
Beautiful tribute to a great man. Thanks for posting.
While I was for President Ford and sad he lost, I have to say the country was not the loser in that we had two good choices in 1976.
