    I have not tried this, but there is rip-stop nylon made for sail-boats and is also used by the kite making people. It has a coating to inhibit air flow through the fabric. This will be MUCH more durable than plastic table cloth. I think they simply sew the seams, and just accept that there will be a little air escaping through the seams. I also recall that there is a product for tent making, called "Seam sealer", that is applied to the sewn seams. But, this was many years ago, so I don't know if it is still around.

      If you’re talking about patterning it, you could make a small scale model out of clay, which you would then put tape over and draw on pattern lines, which you will then scale up to size.

      Sorry I took so long to reply. It's just your standard plastic table cloth. Here is a link to a large roll of it from party city.
      www.partycity.com/purple-plastic-table-cover-roll-181738.html?extcmp=pla%7CLia%7CGoogle&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyerpBRD9ARIsAH-ITn_ckUFWcpdXQH7ck_ENRQQp28shRYk_15P_RKL5K-oi1m6-hC6yT2kaAnAiEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
      If you don't have a party city, any type of colored plastic works. You can also make it out of plastic drop-cloth and spray paint it the colors you need.

I'm just not sure about adding a fan and lights. Could you take the fan and lights from a store bought inflatable and use it with one of these homemade ones?

    Inflatables are normally made from polyester material and are made for years of use. Thin plastic doesn't sound long lasting or weatherproof but what a really great idea for something temporary.

    I see this post is pretty old and not sure if I will get a response. I am attempting to construct a Snorlax Style costume for my 4 year old son. I wonder how I go about ironing the seems and if I should make patterns pieces and put them together or try to minimize the seems.

    • @imagineeringeveryday2370
      @imagineeringeveryday2370  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the complexity of the costume. I try to stray away from too complex geometry when doing inflatables because it can get pretty wonky if I mess up, and there is really no way to test it until you are finished, however if you are confident with your pattern then I say go for it. I found that using a mini iron was best for more complex projects. However, if you find a vinyl or rip stop nylon like they use for tents, you can also use a sewing machine and it is still pretty air tight with a fan.

    How strong is the table cloth compared to a store brand pool floaty?

    • @imagineeringeveryday2370
      @imagineeringeveryday2370  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not strong at all. The pool floaty are a thicker vinyl. The table cloth can be poked and stretched easier. But it isn’t super weak, I find that I can set the inflatable up at an event about 5-6 times before they really start to break.

    Quick Question: Do you need to vent the air at all (ex: will the inflatable over-inflate) or have you never had an issue with that?

    • @imagineeringeveryday2370
      @imagineeringeveryday2370  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I have never had an issue with that. Usually the fan will only inflate to a limit. It doesn't have enough power to make the items pop.

    • @seeminglyRANDOM88
      @seeminglyRANDOM88 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok. Thank you. I was looking to do a custom inflatable Baymax and I didn't want any burst issues. I will have to make sure I get a decent fan that doesn't push out too many CFM. Thanks for the response. Keep up the great work!

  • @diglettsdigs

    I wanted to make inflatable Pokemon but I was just wondering 1: where did u get the plastic table cloth 2 : how did u close it off after you inflated it without the air coming out of it

    • @imagineeringeveryday2370
      @imagineeringeveryday2370  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I get the plastic tablecloth from the dollar store, and I get big rolls of it from places like Party City for larger projects. You can also find it cheaper on Amazon too. And I don't actually close it off when I'm done. I just leave the fan running. The plastic isn't air tight so i can't inflate it like a beach ball. It's more like the inflatable snowman you set up for Christmas outside. You could try finding yellow trash bags to make the Pokemon out of. Those are more air/water tight and would work in a pool. And you could always use the end of a ziplock bag to seal it closed once you fill it with air.

      @@imagineeringeveryday2370 ok but how does it not blow away if it's not attached? I don't know if I'm being dumb lol but I've never seen a lawn inflatable up closer so I don't know. You use dryer vents I see that but if you just put it under the inflatable isn't it going to blow away? I must be missing something? Thank you, it's a great idea.
