    After replacing the carburetor, spark plug, and air filter, I figured she would fire right up. To my chagrin, I pulled and pulled, and not a thing happened. Then I saw your video and saw that little spring which I forgot to reattach. After that, she roared back to life. Just a small adjustment can make all the difference. Thanks a ton.

    Exactly what I was searching for regarding the air vane. Thank you for posting with the important visuals. Very helpful.

    I bought this exact mower today for $5. Missing the air cleaner and most of the springs. They have the choke zip tied. I’ll get it restored and rebuilt. This video gave me a heads up

    Thanks for the tutorial. I bought my mower used and ever since I've had it it won't turn back on after it's hot. I replaced the spark plug and ignition coil, but still had the same issue. Finally I can't access your video and when I looked inside my mower the thermostat am was totally crushed, maybe after Simone pot back on the shroud. Needless to say this video was a huge help!

    After buying a coil & trying everything else, I find your video, exactly the problem I was having, all the Briggs I've had before on Craftsman mowers didn't have this air vane like this, thanks I needed a little help.

    Thanks for an informative video. I've got the same issue-a mower that starts and runs fine but if you shut it down to take a break it won't restart until it is cold. Now I know the inner workings I can tackle it and see what's up.

    Was having problems, difficulty to start, weak running sudden stop. Just check the choke bar discovered was stuck on two of the bolts below it. Straighten it and when first start it worked bad but after a minute or two improved and since cut an acre of lawn without any problems. Would have never been able to figure it out without Your Video's help. Thank You Very Much.

    Even with all your fumbling in the video it was a successful tutorial. I thank you. I had just put a carb on and the idle wasn't spot on anymore. Took that cover off and that lever was stuck in the wrong position. So cheers to you. Today nothing was going right with other things and this made it all ok. Thx pal. Have a blessed day. 🥂

    I'd love a simple video of what bolts go where as far as removing tune up items (shroud, air filter/carb/breather box) and putting it back together.
    Yeah, I have one in pieces with missing bolts. 😅

      Check Jeff’s small engine videos. He brings one back from the dead& he tells you what size of bolts, he never addressed the thermostat position issue. Also has a good carb rebuild video. Good luck!

    I use springs on my b&g engine. My mower has no throttle on the handle, and I use another 2 springs for it to work. It’s a mess if you look at it but it gets the job done.

    looks like the Air Vane Spring is not attached at the correct location near the lever screw see time 1:51 a hook just to the right it is currently in wrong attachment point. which could be the problem.If you have not already figured that out.

    I think I may see what the problem is with the choke arm spring tension. The carburetor (outside) end of the spring should be hooked into the notch on the "finger" with the little arrow point at the end of the choke arm. This should increase the spring tension to allow the choke arm to function properly. Good video, though.

    • @Captain-mh5yf
      @Captain-mh5yf ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same thing cause I took a picture of mine before swapping out the carburetor and the spring is in that notch you mentioned and not where it’s displayed in the video so that could be it.

    It is a dreadful design. I have these given to me since the owners do not want to wait 30 minutes for the thermostat (mounted on exhaust manifold!) to cool down. The Honda solution is far superior with the wax filled cylinder that heats and expands to engage the choke.
    I'm still working on a method for a manual choke, but until then, I removed the red plastic shroud so I can at see SEE the position
    of the choke before I try to start it. I absolutely REFUSE the replace the thermostat since it works, and I set the thermostat arm based
    on the designer specs, AND tensioned that spring (the one you said falls off), so now the delay is down to 10 minutes...but that is still too long.
    STAY TUNED!
    7/1/2019 - UPDATE: I tied a string to the choke arm and ran it up next to the pull cord.
    Its wacky, but it works.

    What would happen if the plastic choke arm is on the opposite side of that metal heat vane that sticks up behind the muffler? I own a lawnmower with that same engine and the choke arm is in between the heat vane and the muffler and the flywheel. There was a small bungee cord holding the rocker arm for the choke open.

    The tension on the Air Vane spring is engineered to hold just the right amount of resistance when cold and hot. hooking this spring where it was designed to be hooked will aid you in your efforts to smooth out your engine idle without having to experiment. I noticed in your video you had this Air Vane spring hooked up where it was not supposed to be. First things first. Remember theses B&S springs are engineered with just the right amount of tension and resistance in mind. Always use OEM parts.

    *DO YOU KNOW; your AIR VANE SPRING IS ON THE WRONG TAB ? After watching MANY vids., it is supposed to be on the little tab 1 inch to the right of the anchor bolt head--there is kind of a triangle around the tab/earlet. **I ALSO LOOKED AT TORO diagramS online and the factory has the spring attaching to the that tab; yours is lower and hooked to something else out in front of the pivot base. JFYI ! 'NOT 1 of those guys that rag on Ytube Postings OR a know it all ; I wish I had $$$ for all the time I have spent/mispent on trying to get such a delicate (&dumb) spring design to function; A $6 CABLE WOULD HAVE WORKED FINE ON THE CHOKE MR. TORO !

    hi the little red pump thing that i have to push 3X to get a little gas to start my briggs doesnt get suction, or isnt working. when i push it i use to get resistance when the gas moved , is there something i can do to get gas in so it will start?

    • @garageprojects4421
      @garageprojects4421  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. You can either spray some starting fluid or a mist of gas into the intake or replace the primer bulb. I have a video to upload of replacing it on a weedeater but i think it would be better to search for a video of your Briggs primer bulb replacement.
