His skin color was mentioned because this exact event was denied to these men's parents, grandfathers, and great grandfathers. Men who are part of the most elite fighting force in the world. and they stand at attention with their heels together toes pointed out 45 degrees thumbs and closed fist on the trouser seems with wither head and eyes to the front standing tall. because that is the posture of a warrior who shows respect for its fellow leaders.

This 2nd Lt has an advantage over his peers. He has the advantage of having already learned to listen to, learn from, and take the advice of the senior NCOs.

@@edfurmsm9188 To answer your question, that young marine is standing at attention. Not all soldiers stand at attention like that…. Marines definitely do. They learn that very specific posture beginning day one of boot camp and it becomes ingrained muscle memory for the whole of their lives thereafter. In this case, the young man’s musculature and physique amplifies the intensity of the posture making it very prominent. That intensity and physical prowess is a hallmark of most marines.
Standing at attention for any soldier is their way of giving their full undivided attention where it needs to be, preventing distraction, and is their way of showing formal respect to the person to whom they are giving their attention. Such attention and respect is typically given to those who are of higher rank or to those who have earned it, in this case his father.
This ceremony is utterly beautiful. I am glad that they shared it.

My son just became a Marine on Jan 29th, and although he is not an officer I will be saluting him when we get to see him in May after his training. Congratulations sergeant on a job well done with your son, and congratulations to him on becoming the man, officer, and Marine he is today!
Only in the Army do they call all Sergeants, Sergeant, but in the Marines we are called by our full rank at all times, he's a Master Sergeant or "Topp" for endearment.

Made tears ruin down both cheeks. His emotions in each word and his son doing all he could to stay composed. My oldest is about to follow in his fathers and my foot steps and enlist. We served with pride but I’ve never been more proud than knowing my baby feels called to serve his country too. Our families generational legacies of service lives on and for that I’m so grateful to be a part of. God bless the U.S.A!

My dad was there when he gave me my blood wings at FORT Benning, he was a CSM and I was a PFC, best feeling in the world we are both retired now but I will always remember that day.
