great vid, I have the identical motor, the problem with mine is that the gear selector arm moves the star gear a good amount but the roller arm can't reach the valley of the star gear so its not fully in gear, what could be the culprit? I hear of bent forks which mine are not, or weakened springs? hope someone can help

Can I ask you a question? I have a '79 mini trail z50with a 49cc motor. I have seamed to lost 1st gear. I can't shift it into neutral. When it all hit the fan it sounded like a bike threw a chain. I cannot start the motor conventionally (neutral) I have to run start it. Is it still safe to ride or would it be better to stay off. Would you know where I could find a replacement part? Thanks!!
I suggest you open it up, they're really easy to take apart and put back together...
how did you get that aluminum plate off before you reached the clutch nut
