Talat Jahan went from surviving a traumatic marriage to making a living from a male-dominated field. Here's her story. Thanks to ActionAid India for the footage.

Interesting, so in India the bride's family pays dowry to the husband's family. In Nigeria, the groom pays dowry to the bride's family to ask for her hand in marriage. Some tribes have very long lists of items while other tribes ask for little next to nothing ( I means things that can be easily provided) But during the traditional marriage ceremony, Many families from the yoruba tribe in Nigeria return the bride price/money to the husband. Some families give the money to the bride immediately the groom presents it. And they always state clearly that they are just giving out her hand in marriage not selling their daughter. I guess it is subtle of warning the groom not to misbehave.

Also break the norm that women have to settle with the husband’s family and serve them. Just sick of these customs that have created nothing but bitter and evil people generation after generation. We should always have a right and freedom to live as we please without being confined to such and such sex, caste, social status, religion etc.
Because there is this stereotype that Auto Drivers are Male Members only....So if someone tries to come out of the shell, Why not Inspiring??!! And Men becoming Auro drivers are not depressing, I don't know about you, but For us *It's not* !!!

This is inspiring. Leaving abusive in laws and husband is inspiring. Not giving free money to In laws and husband in the name of dowry is inspiring. Being independent is inspiring. Taking care of mother on her own is inspiring. Not taking any bs from men around her that she shouldn't work is inspiring. And the reasons why this is inspiring are never ending. This woman is inspiration to all the oppressed women out there who continuously suffer harrasment just for the sake of marriage.
