This movie is a visual masterpiece, and all the little details were so thoughtfully done and are so amazing to see and notice, from the lighting effects to the mix of 2D and 3D to the word bubbles. When I saw it for the first time, I found myself sometimes thinking it was stop-motion because of the animating on 2's, and sometimes thinking it was live-action because the characters were animated in such a natural and expressive way. Thanks for giving us a look at the thought process behind it all! I hope this sets the standard for big budget animated movies in the future.
He pretty much blueprinted the visuals for this film.. I found out that his digital art skill was unique mostly because he didnt kno how to use photoshop.
He is a key figure for sure but please dont take away from all the other SUPER talented people who made this thing happen. Albertos vision shines through but in the end he did leave quite early on
If you have seen Alberto Mielgo's more recent animated film, the love and robot stuff, it looks vastly different than Spiderverse. the only idea he brought in is to have them look painterly but Spiderverse is way more than just painterly. It is all those comic styles etc that made it special. And If Alberto ended up staying working for Spiderverse, it wouldn't look like what it is today, it would be too adult 18+ looking and scary like his more recent animated film I was referring to. You can get a feel of how it would have looked like in one of the early stages of the development of Spiderverse. I could only use "sad" to describe it. Spiderverse atm is more on the "happy" side, which I very much prefer.
I've never had a movie make me so emotional, I love love love this film and I'll be watching it over and over when it comes to Netflix. The first film came out while I was in art school and it really inspired me, and this one even more. Everything was perfect.
This is one of those videos that I wish I could “Like” a hundred times! Well done and congratulations to the artists and production staff. Really nailed it!
This movie is one of the reasons I bought a home projector and 120" screen! The art of Spider-Verse book is fantastic as well, great job to the whole Spider-Verse crew and well deserved Oscar!
Good job by combining 3d and 2d style of animation work in one platform art at its best form thank you, this keeps the animation alive and great to watch and enjoy.
Into the spider veres still inspired me until this moment to anmataion world I'm so sad that I don't know how make the idea and who was in this work that film and people who make it should be noun to the world
I’m calling it right now. Disney will start working its way back to the look and feel of “One Hundred and One Dalmations” (1961). Not necessarily full 2D animation, of course. But the thick, black, Xerox outlines mashed up with 3D animation. You’ll see….
@@nantasticmuzia4447 oh, wow. I forgot I posted this comment. You’re right. I haven’t seen Wish yet but I hear it tries to look more 2D. Too bad the reviews are not good.
The Exec's don't want anyone talking about concept art that wasn't originally made by their America studio(s), and in this case Canada also helped on this.
this is still helpful to this day, only thing I dont get is, do they draw on every single keyframe cause how did they keep the contour lines on the faces given the 3d angles
There is this TH-camr named Jazza and he created a kit of various brushes and I think one of them is called chisel marker brush, maybe that one can replicate that look. Hope it helped :D
@@Gadget-Walkmen Imo, it reminds you of the surprise and the apprehension you had when you meet her for the first time in the movie Seeing how prepared and in ease she is, doing her hair as strong and threatening limbs casually grab Peter's neck. Before the movies spiderman used to be cool . Then the first movie came out and they got it completely wrong . And toby was and still is the worst spiderman . I grew up with the real spiderman comics and animated series . Yes spidy was a nerd but not in the traditional way he was the type who had good sarcastic jokes and spot on . And he was not a crybaby like toby's spiderman .
Wow. I bet there were far more interesting artists who actually created the look of this film before this bore with 11 year-old facial hair blandified everything they contributed.
Honestly, as a lifelong comic book fan and owner of over 5000 comics, I find, SMITSV, hugely overrated. It was ok. It had a few funny moments but it's hard to get exited over C-, material.
I got so distracted with the art style that I didn't even notice that Gwen had ballet shoes
Spiderverse is the best animation film. Love how they blend 2D and 3d together and incorporated comic book art and techniques into an animation film.

This movie is a masterpiece, PERIOD! 10/10 PHENOMENAL film as a whole in of it's entirety!
Alberto mielgo deserves much more credit for this film. Look him up if you haven't already.
True. I feel like this guy just repeats what Mielgo already established when he worked there
you come here from his animatic too?

All that work paid off- the movie is visually stunning & has plenty of heart too. Loved it.

Knowing Justin personally and having taught at my school for years, he is a master at design. Such a great movie! Go Justin!
What about Alberto Mielgo????
