It is really disappoint to hear thoughts of Mr. Lele. More disappointing is to know how Indian selectors work unethically. These bunch of oldies don't care about a young talent. Now everyone will take credit of Sehwag's success.

Once upon a time in nighties Mohinder amarnath criticised selectors saying that they are a bunch of zokars....He was right ...Mr.jayant lele looks like a Bollywood comedian.I think he is telling us that the selectors often don't recognize the talents.

Yes, in his first 3 ODIs, he scored: 1 (vs Pak), DNB (vs Zim) & 19 (vs Zim).
It was actually Sehwag's fourth ODI game where he became Man of the Match for scoring 58 runs & for taking the wickets of Hayden, Martyn & Steve Waugh. From there on he never looked back.
Beautiful memories of some great Cricketer like Sehwag and Madan lal a true and honest Indian and a Cricketer to promote real deserving candidates.

Sehwag debuted against Pakistan n was dropped. This incident he is talking is about Sehwag's re-selection into team. That staunch refusal from selectors was coz of his failure on debut.
Sehwag's first match was against Pakistan just before 1999 world cup. he came in l think 47-48 over and got lbw against rampaging Shoaib Akhtar. he made 1 run. I watched that match. his first match winning performance came against new Zealand in 2001, when he hit the century and India easily chased 250 odd runs. Thereafter he never looked back. though he hit a half century against Australia the same year but until his first century against new Zealand, his capabilities were not unraveled. just like VVS Laxman. who shot into fame after Kolkata test. he also scored half centuries and 167 against Australia before Kolkata test, but before that particular inning of 281, his greatness was not revealed.
He got MOM against Australia at Bangalore in 2001 for making 60 and taking 3 wickets. He fractured his finger was out of the series.

This speech goes to show the red tapism in the BCCI in those days. When a person like Shewag had to go through all this, we can just imagine how many careers these idiots must have destroyed. I remember Ajay Sharma, massacred bowlers in India, was only picked up for one ODI and failed. Later he resorted to match fixing. Latest goof up is Stuart Binny, where he was forced into the team as his father was one of the selectors. As soon as Roger got kicked, so did Stuart from the team.

Absolute bullshit... Sehwag made his debut against Pakistan on 1st April 1999 and scored a golden duck the second ball he faced against Shoaib Akhtar. He was again given a chance against Zim series where he played in 4th ODI of the 5 game series.
(Mr. Lele mentioned 3rd ODI) At that stage India was leading the series 2-1 as opposed to series was already won as Lele mentions. Rajkot was the 5th ODI and Sehwag scored just 19 runs, took 2 wickets and India won by 39 runs.

Very interesting and this gentleman played important role along with others to give Shewag a chance which very much turning point for his cricket carrier. Many comments got wrong here as many say Ganguly is the reason behind Shewag selection which is wrong. Ganguly inturn promoted him to be a opener.

Perhaps Chandu Borde is long gone and Madanlal was not around. Anyway, the point here though is also to tell you that Sehwag's ODI debut was indeed against Pakistan but Test debut was against South Africa while touring South Africa itself. T20 debut was also South Africa. Last ODI was indeed also against Pakistan. So, so many debuts must have left him confused.

You look at Dhoni, his performance and keeping were also not such that he could be selected, but selectors some-times notice something that can make these players successful at international level.
About Dhoni, actually before they (dhoni and gambhir) were selected they played in pakistan in under 19. India consistently scored 300 plus against pak sri lanka etc and i remember dhoni and gambhir scored most of those runs. This i s where i noticed them and was not surprised when they were selected.
