I joined Taekwondo when I was 11 after watching the Karate Kid. I ended up doing it for 7 years and became an assistant instructor.
There is no doubt that movie kept me out of trouble (mostly) during my high-testosterone years.

That's awesome! You're a testament for the effect that Taekwondo has in young people's lives. My daughter is a black belt in Taekwondo also. She's working on her 2nd degree. I'm really proud of the young woman she's become.

@@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs I never realized that was him in Enter the Dragon. The Karate Kid was so big in the 80s, none of the kids I went to school with believed me. There's another thing too that blows me away, and that is that my father was also Mary Mouser's piano teacher. My dad was born in Niagara Falls, NY and moved to Pine Bluff Arkansas in the 70s. When Cobra Kai came out I told him about it and his reaction was not as enthusiastic as mine. "Huh" he said. He didnt' live to see it because he died a few days before the show aired.
Mouser was from a well-to-do family in Pine Bluff and was the granddaughter of this woman who used to help finances these film festivals. She moved to Hot Springs and the film festival fizzled out. Pine Bluff sucks.

Cobra Kai was a show i never expected to love as much as I did, i watched the first episode when youtube had it for free becasue i was bored and i've been watching ever since

@@robr177, yeah, it certainly was a lot of fun seeing that for the first time as well as a joy to see & hear anytime since. A couple years before the pandemic hit, Steve played in Grand Rapids and walked around the audience while jamming. I got to lay my hand on his shoulder for a moment and he even let us in the audience strum his guitar. What a cool dude!
Crossroads, he's worked with Robert De Niro on Broadway, worked with Tom Cruise obviously, did the Karate Kid movie with Pat Morita who gets an Oscar Nomination for Mr. Myagi, currently works with Billy Zabka who also has gotten an Oscar Nomination for directing, worked with Marrisa Tomai in a film together that she won the Oscar in, recently worked with Anthony Hopkins etc etc. Yeah Macchio is a high caliber actor and thus his company around him is always high caliber. Plus a Great guy, I had the great honor of meeting him🙂
My wife met him when she volunteered for dragon con years. Just a great guy. She also met Ed Asner there too. Also great.

I’ve known Karate Kid since my Dad put me to a Little League Martial Arts class in California, and Hawaii. Never had the interest as a kid, because I never gotten bullied once in my life, nor did I want to know what it’s like to be fighter. 😕 Well, all in the past.

And mispronounced too. The "ch" sounds like a "k" in Italian, which doesn't have the letter "k" in its alphabet.
@@makinoahcelloduo9008 Yes, but bearers of a name have the prerogative of deciding how their name should be pronounced. It's very common for immigrants to either keep the spelling and change the pronunciation, or change the spelling and keep the pronunciation. In the case of Macchio, his forebears obviously chose the former.
@@mytube001 Seems very common in USA, where the melting pot mentality coerces so many to mispronounce names and words that follow different rules than American English. I live in Canada, where that is far less common, but not unknown. Some opt to change the spelling to help others pronounce correctly (like the Mahovolich brothers who starred in the NHL), but others, like Joe Sakič (also an NHL star) live without the correct pronunciation when the accent is dropped. However, I have noticed that Italian Canadians are far more likely to pronounce their names and other Italian words correctly compared to Italian Americans. The really funny thing for Canadians is hearing well-educated Americans mangle words and names of French origin. The other day Seth Myers referred to the soft drink “St. Croix” and pronounced it so it rhymed with “boy” instead of “saw” with that tricky w/r at the beginning. Americans saying “croissants?” Cracks me up. Especially when they pronounce the “s” at the end.
@@makiburgess5733 You have to understand that I'm talking about immigration from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s.
Take the Swedish immigrants as an example. Jonsson typically became Johnson, Persson became Pearson, Larsson became Lawson or Larson, Sjöberg became Seaborg, Kjellberg became Chelberg, Ljungberg became Youngberg and so on. This was done to fit in better and make it easier for others to say your name. I'm almost certain that the same happened to the Macchio who first moved to the US, and got tired of trying to correct people, but in his case the spelling was kept and the pronunciation was changed instead.
